Hey, all.
So, of late I've been realizing that I really need to write more. My terrible, terrible sleeping habits have been leading to me doing most of my writing at...oh, hey, it's 1:40 am. That's not a great habit to form.
I figure, enough's enough. I'm going to kill two birds with one stone here and announce a very simple goal: To write every day at a reasonable hour. My figuring is, by posting my progress here, I will be obliged to keep to my goals simply to avoid being shamed. If I should fail at those goals, shame is entirely warranted and encouraged—yeah, like you guys need an excuse. :P
I thought I'd make it interesting, though. Others who would like to set their own regular writing goals are welcome to join in, though I'll continue my work regardless. This is a thread to report your progress, whether you aim to write every day or every month.
So, here are THE RULES:
You will set a one-time or regular writing goal. For me, that's to get something done by around 3:00 pm PST every day. When you succeed at the goal, you simply post here that you have done so, and bask in the well-deserved congratulations. Feel free to drop notes on your progress, or even excerpts you personally find entertaining.
But. Every time that I fail, I will instead post with the dreaded smurf avatar, confessing that I smurfed up. Shaming will follow. As the old gnomish saying goes, Avatar of red, he'll make us all dead. Avatar of blue, shame will ensue!
So, why's my avatar blue tonight? I'm, uh, to be honest, I'm half-making this thread just to procrastinate on getting to work...
Disclaimer: This is all in good fun. Speaking as someone with a lot of anxiety, I totally get not being comfortable with a strict regular goal, as not everyone writes that way, and sometimes we just aren't in a good space to write at all. "Shaming" should all be in good fun, too—nobody should feel like they're actually being pressured. Feel free to substitute encouragement and sympathy instead. Remember, we all have dry periods.

Well, I certainly smurfed this one, but at 2:30, that's enough for tonight. Introduced the two main characters—a naive seed collector and a phlegmatic witch. The latter just got the former's hand stabbed through pure carelessness.
This will be pretty much par for their relationship throughout the book.

I'm still writing, but I should probably post just to say that today I met my goal! The main character learned a thing or two about magic after the witch healed her hand with less than a glance. In this world, people with magic are practically omnipotent compared to normal people. The witch is engaging in lighthearted banter now, but she's going to be both a powerful ally and a major problem as the story progresses. It's hard to be friends with someone who could literally unmake you with a thought, especially when they're the sort of person who abhors being solidly placed on anyone's side.
