lance and charge

double dmg while mounted

x3 crit multiplier, is it

1) - 3d8 + triple mods x2,
2) a x3 and a x2 becomes a x4
3) something else

When you have multiple multiplier, you subtract one from each additional multiplier.

A lance doesx3 damage on a crit and does double damage while performing a mounted charge. This adds up to be x4 base damage.

So 4d8+ 4 x strength + 4 x other damage bonuses multiplied on a critical hit. Damage that isn't multiplied on a critical hit (extra damage dice beyond weapon or precision damage) shouldn't be multiplied by the critical hit or lance double, I think. But I could be wrong on that last bit.

Extra Damsge dice are never multiplied.
Base damage dice (long sword 1d8, bomb 1d6) are multiplied.
Static damage when if precision (ranger favored enemy) are multiplied.

Easy cheat sheet to math this out:
X2 = (2-1)
X3 =(3-1)
X4 = (4-1)
You add the result of -1 then add 1
X2+X4 = 1+3 = 4 = X5

Also it's forum policy to not put "FAQ request" or "Official answer" in the title. They don't do official answers. Ask your GM.

Ummm James....it's only a x4. X2 + x3 is only a x4, not a x5. I think you might have mistyped or might be confused on something.

He has a mounted charge critical hit with a lance.

Actually I wasn't answering his direct question (but I should have been).
I was answering a hypothetical times 2 and times 4 multiply.

Ah, I see. I misread your example and you think you should have been using his situation.

We're both a little wrong.
