Vanity Follower - Lookout - any idea how this works?

Hi all, I recently came across the opportunity to gain a follower and was looking at the description of the Lookout as per the Society primer page 28.

Lookout (4 PP)::
A Pathfinder is at her most vulnerable
when asleep, and having a designated guard allows
everyone to rest safely. While you rest, a lookout keeps
watch . A lookout's bonus on Perception checks is equal
to your character level. The lookout immediately wakes
you up (as if he had spent a standard action to do so)
upon spotting danger.

Now I remember that somewhere along the line it was stated, that a vanity follower is assumed to be of your own race.
Given that my character is a tiefling does this mean that the follower is also a tiefling and hence has Darkvision? This can make a huge difference in its usefulness to me.

I have never heard any statement that followers are of the PC's race. My assumption is that a follower has no special senses or abilities that are not explicitly called out. So in this case, the Lookout does not have darkvision, and just relies on whatever the situation provides.

How humans are the only thing in golarion that can't see in the dark but its considered normal is beyond me.

Yeah well that's because nighttime should be dim light because of the moon, and not darkness. Darkness should be for pitch black when humans can't see more than a few inches in front of them. But then again depending on your perception roll you may not be able to see a football player in the endzone from the other endzone since that's DC 29 [base 0 plus 29 for distance]. Luckly I watch football all the time so I know I have at least a +19 perception for when I take ten. I must be high level to account for my low wisdom. :-)

They also breed like Goblins when compared to most races, and they're everywhere. The gold-free price comes from faction vendors having them on permenant clearance sale.

Have you noticed that the "half" in half everything is always human? half orc, half dragon, half vampire, half angel, half devil....

To be fair, real-life humans have a demonstrated tendency to put their junk anywhere...

The only race that even remotely rivals humanity's willingness to breed with anything are dragons.

I wonder if that's because some dragons are prone to taking human form...
