Is Alm for the poor considered as spending gold?

So to get question straight. I got a character that lives in orphanage and (should) often give donation to the said orphanage. Can I spend money on that? Or it can be spent only on listed gear? I'm asking if I can, not if I should ('cos I should and willing ;)).

you can subtract gold from your character for any reason you wish. If you want to give alms to the poor (orphanage) that's certainly up to you. It won't give you any benefits or mechanical things (unless you have some feat, trait, or class ability that says otherwise--not aware of any).

You are completely within your rights to spend your money on donations to an NPC organization. Just note it on your Inventory Tracking and deduct it from the gold on your chronicle when you total it out.

You're perfectly allowed to throw your money however you wish. Don't expect a mechanical benefit from doing so.

you can just put it down as a flavor thing that you donate and/or work there.

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm not asking for any mechanics benefit. It's just for pure role-playing cause.

then go for it. You could also take say 1 rank in Profession (baker) or (cobbler) and say that you do your work at the Orphanage, and then donate your dayjob check to the orphanage.

If you want an easy way to decide on how much to "give", simply say your Day Job goes to the charity each chronicle and don't even roll it.

Keeps you at expected wealth, and gives you the roleplaying flavor.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Here, if we're not starting a lot later than the usual late, we usually do a little introductory "where are you and what are you doing when the society tries to find you" type avengers assemble moment for people to get that kind of background out to the other players.

I find this to be the best way to handle it.
