Private PbP

Online Campaigns General Discussion

Sorry if I'm posting on the wrong forum. I've been here a while but always on the advice forums. I want to play a homebrew campaign with some friends, and I was just curious if play-by-post allowed private games. If not, I could just start an e-mail chain, or start a chat room or something. Thanks for the help.

Yep! Feel free to start your recruitment post, but it's common practice (and good manners) to say it's private in the thread title.

These boards are for everyone, private PbPs included!

Or better yet, just start a gameplay post and don't bother with the recruitment. If it's private, don't taunt those in the recruitment forum with a game they cannot join.

My private Doom Comes to Dustpawn game has no recruitment thread, though it has everything else.

Yes, that's totally allowed.

It's best to avoid making a recruitment thread, though - other people on the boards can find that annoying, since you're not actually recruiting at all. Just do character creation in the discussion thread.

Echoing what others have said--you don't need to have a recruitment thread. Games here are de facto private as well. You may have spectators, but the only times I've ever seen a person showing up in a Gameplay or Discussion thread to try to get into an existing game was when one of the players had disappeared from the boards. In more than five years of playing PbP here, I've seen it happen less than five times.

I never understood why some people make private recruitment threads for games. If it's private, just create the gameplay/discussion thread and be done with it!

An honest mistake.....
