promethean oenopion alchemist

So the promethean alchemist cannot taken mutagen... However the oenopion gives an ability like mutagen, but technically not mutagen.

Nothing else conflicts between them.

So would the alchemists with both archetypes be able...

1. to craft his experimental mutagens?

2. take other mutagen based discoveries?

And,

3. since experimental mutagen gives the option to create normal mutagens can he now create those as well?

My personal thoughts:

1. Yes
2. As long as they do not have a specific prerequisite of mutagen.
3. Meh, no as you don't have mutagen, just the "experimental" mutagen.

The archetypes probably don't stack, because Oenopion Researcher references your normal mutagen, which you don't have. Essentially, Oenopion Researcher is missing the note that it alters mutagen.

That would be great but it does not in fact alter mutagen. It is a completely separate ability that replaces poison use, and I am not aware of any faq or even developer opinion existing that suggests what you say.

It does alter it, at least under a strict reading (in the Mark Seifter style). Things may not list everything they "alter", since it's commonly missed. When you prepare a mutagen, you now choose between two things. As a GM, I'd also probably point out that you don't have any rules for preparing a mutagen now, so the ability is useless, or stretch the bit about abilities that alter mutagen applying to experimental mutagen to include "this ability replaces mutagen".

Of course, it was a pretty big mistake to lock that archetype completely out of Mutagens in the first place. There just aren't enough Discoveries that aren't based on Mutagens or Bombs, leaving the archetype Discovery starved.

Nah, they've got something like 36 options, so you are getting your top 33% or so over twenty levels.

Have you actually looked at those options. Or how about this, choose me 9 options from those available that you would actually want to take.

Infusion, Tumor Familiar, Sandstone Solution, Spontaneous Healing, Healing Touch, Extend Potion, (which was just to get) Eternal Potion, Wings, and Psychokinetic Tincture. If some of those don't appeal, the Doppelgänger Simulcrum pair is pretty cool too.

are you just trying to get a mutagen?

my interest lays more in the interaction of the rules and curiousity on oulayers.

Had an idea for an android promethean alchemist that sent his homunculus out for him. I then looked through the archetypes to see what could stack and the idea of the homunculus having experimental mutagens came up.

So? Eternal potions are eternal. Buy once, use forever.

after looking the two discoveries over i have to agree. thought there was something in them that said you had to make the potions.
