How do you cast as a sorc/paladin? Go armorless? 1 level of magus for light armor casting? Mithril+ feat to reduce cast failure chance?
Going Magus only helps you with magus spells, not your sorcerer ones.

Whoops, you're right. I've only glanced over the class. Guess they thought of that as a potential 1 level dip that arcane classes might want for light armor.

You can take Still Spell, just cast all your spells 1 level higher, and fill your 1st level spell slots with truestrike. Maybe spend a trait on Magical Lineage for a favorite spell.

I forgot one thing in my general advice on gestalt...

  • resource management- some classes (like fighter or rogue) can do what they do all day every day, others (like magus or inquisitor) burn through daily uses of abilities as they 'nova' and when those uses run out they're far less effective. Some GMs will let you get away with 1 or 2 encounters a day but in a gestalt game you should try to have one class that stays useful no matter how many fights you get into. Fighter, unchained rogue, ranger, slayer, brawler, and unchained monk are fairly obvious examples; things like witch and shaman are less obvious but with many hexes that can be used 1/enemy instead of 1/day (or ones like evil eye that can be used over and over against the same enemy) they remain useful even when their spells are exhausted.

    and since I'm here...
Pally/sorc uses Mage armor like other sorcerers. Their smite bumps up their AC against BBEGs and dragon disciple for natural armor is a great option for them. The enlightened paladin archetype can also be very good for them (let's them add Cha to AC all the time).

  • 1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd think resource management would be less important than in a regular game. You have twice as many resources, but the same action economy to use them. You want to be especially careful about combining two classes that rely on swift/immediate actions, because their action economy will conflict with each other.

I've always liked the sor/wiz gestalt. It's the ultimate arcane cannon. Sorcerer spells for loads of offense and wizard for utility.

Dawnflower dervish/Loracle? You don't end up with full bab, but the inspiration bonus is doubled and only works on you. Tonnes of healing potential, two spell lists and all good saves as well as skills coming out of every orifice.

The only thing that's a little bit of a downside is that you have two spell lists so you'll have to plan your turns ahead of time.

@Mekiador- that comment was part of a larger set of general guidelines on gestalt, one of which was action economy. If your action economy is limiting you to only doing what one of your classes could do anyways you're either not benefiting like you could from gestalt or you have passive/all day benefits from one of your classes (like fighter/magus- you have the same action economy as a magus but fighter gives full BAB, weapon training, feats, etc). And, like I said, some of that comes down to your GM- in some gestalt campaigns you have the encounter frequency of a normal game (just with tougher enemies) and resource management would be easier; other GMs though may have whole dungeons you need to clear in a single run and resource management can be really difficult if you don't have one 'all day' class.

    Ninja / Eldritch Scion Magus.

Lots of Charisma, Spellstrike and Swift Action invisibility. With the right feats and Bloodline, you can combine your Sneak Atttacks with 20 foot reach.
