The sandbox is off the rails ... Need ideas

Skull & Shackles

We are 13th level running the AP. GM sent us way out into left field and beyond. Current plot is to try and undo the effects of time we missed being off the plane for 5 years.

While the path is fairly spelled out, the environment is something else.

Spoiler:
Cheliax invaded and took over.

So we have a secure base (for the moment), and plans to pursue.

My need, is ideas to enable us to pull off our plans. I see a need to amass a bunch of wealth to pay for the magics needed to fix things. However, having the political landscape change so drastically, we are unsure of the best avenues to gain the stuff we need. Secondly, we will need to eventually infiltrate port peril (and elsewhere) without being detected (or at least not in time to do anything about it), and do so with a significant amount of stuff.

Basic MacGuffin requires assembling an artifact in the city, and it is very big. [Actually a ship.] While that is many sessions in the future, leading up to that is going to be a bit of fun. The immediate goal is to topple a floating city, because the artifact part there is what makes it float.

So. On to the specifics:
1) As accomplished adventurers, where would we find good concentrations of chellish wealth and magic? [Within the shackles, post takeover.]
2) What magic items are needed to be undetected?
3) What is a good way to make the city's population self destruct, without tipping them off that an outside force is responsible?
And, as the one most likely to try to infiltrate with a disguise, what do I need to pass myself off as another species 24/7?

Update: Well, we tipped our hands, and caused 1/3 of the city to fall. Unfortunately, we were below at the time. [I took 50+ damage and I made the saves.]

We learned the artifact we seek can be controlled by someone in the city, so felling the rest of the city will be harder.

With all the chaos, and with the party splitting up (Oh No!) due to falling objects, I decided a little larceny would be appropriate. The chaos above with the defense centered about preserving the foundation support, I figure there won't be much (any?) resistance to looting a few choice items. Of course, I have to find them first. :-)

More later....

Well, we found out about a subversive faction. Now we are trying a violent political upheaval. If this fails, we gotta fight 10,000 large intelligent apes, some who fly, some who are part devil, and some who are just nasty.

Seems we really annoyed them. They sent a scry and fry squad of 6*CR12 vs 5*L13 characters. That was a near TPK. One survived due to a regeneration ioun stone, another needed raised, and I needed a CLW. Amazingly, the wizard managed to escape the grappling monsters. [CMB > 20, so my CMD 27 meant I was toast.] Their SR was low, so the wizard landed several enervates. Rolled 4, 4, and another 4! They had an SLA of quickened hold person, 3/day. Wizard made all 3 saves!

Raiding the throne room seemed like a good idea. Even with the dimensional anchor in place, we thought we could handle it. We were right, but then the king was not there, nor the artifact we were looking for. We killed some more high level casters, but had to leave before the place was stormed by the ape army.

We exit, teleport, and recover, before we attack again. We defer the attack to retrieve the one artifact piece we know how to get, but quickly learn it won't teleport. Got to do it the hard way.... Meanwhile, trying to return we have a teleport mishap and land 600 miles from where we want to go. We have to wait and recharge to get another teleport, and this time, another mishap, but only 240 miles away. Third time is a charm, or is it? This time, the roll was 76%, where 75% or less is OK. GM felt sorry, and as this last teleport was of X miles that-a-way rather than to a place the looked like this clairvoyant view, he let us succeed anyway.

We make new plans, and our secret ally tells us to incite a civil war, as tension is high. We do what we do best, and cause mayhem, and the next several days go well for us.

Dude. I have no idea when the last time you actually played Skull & Shackles even was, haha!

Our GM like to throw in stuff from elsewhere, and since I am not peeking, I don't know what is cannon and what is homegrown.

As to this thread's goal, we've been working on it a while.

Yup, you are so far off the rails that this may not belong in the AP thread :)

As for infiltrations and disguises I'd suggest looking into the new-ish Ultimate Intrigue if you don't already have it. Sounds as if there should be plenty of spells, items and other ideas to help you do what you want.

Let him have his thread, it is Skull and Shackles after all, it's not like people aren't adding on to it.

Other people might benefit from it. :-)

I added a smiley!! And I even gave some loose advise.

My apologies, terrible translation of the spoken word on my part then, carry on. :-)

Final update: We toppled the city, and have the artifact part we need.

We killed the king, and another artifact sought to replace him magically. Out lashed a black ray crackling with necromancy at the nearest person. Save made. Lash out to the next. Save made. I was the farthest in range, and I was surprised I made the save. [No, I don't have great saves, sigh.] But I survived.
Next round. It lashed out again, and again, as before, but this time I failed my save. Being zapped by an artifact can be interesting. :-/

We quickly left with my changing body in tow. When I wake, I am now one of the apes, and thus by definition, the new king. [Now I have to recalculate everything on my character sheet!]

With the fall of the king, and the city, most of the inhabitants went away. However, a large portion of the king's army stayed intact. As I am now the chosen king, they are willing to follow me. I use my influence [and leadership feat] to get them solidly under my command. We send the army to attack Port Peril, while we go another route to get the final bits needed to gain the artifact ship in port peril.

What happens next is to be determined.... :-)

Can I make this my avatar?

Also, I got a large size version of a kusarigama, since I am proficient. I am large and have reach 10' and this weapon is both reach (ball) and not (sickle), so I can attack from adjacent to +25' out.
