Best Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain? PFS

Advice

I've been wanting to play a Warpriest for awhile but didn't really like any of the archetypes.
But Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain has very few drawbacks and a sweet upside if you buy Dueling Gloves. Not being able to take Advanced Weapon Training sucks but I still think it is worth it.

But what is the best direction to take it?
A 2 handed weapon seems ideal since you won't miss the scaling damage you lose.
But I've never built a 2HW focused character in Pathfinder before.
N Jolly's guide lists a lot of good feats but he doesn't have any sample builds yet.

Can anyone offer build advice? I know basics like high Str, decent Wis, Take Fate's Favored. I just don't know what feats are important other then Power Attack.

That's the beauty of 2H fighting. ALL you need is Power attack. Once you have that everything else you do is free and up to you.

Getting vital strike at lv6 with your "special" feat is nice, since you still only have 1 attack till lv8. Could combo well with Gorum's fighting technique.

Furious focus isn't bad. Not personally my taste, but it's okay.

There's a a few different routes you can go with a two handed build.

Reach Weapon. Add Combat Reflexes to your list of must have feats and find a way to further increase size/reach. Fast Drinker and Potion Glutton come to mind.

Cleave (ideally as a Dwarf with goblin and Orc Cleaving shenanigans) this can be combined with Vital Strike leaving you with different tactical options for your standard action.

As states above Vital Strike builds. Usually with weapon of the chosen and Furious Focus. People seem super into the Weapon of the Chosen Feat line, I'm not quite sure it's really worth it as I think that you should be able to make a warpriest who autohits CR approriate AC on anything but a 1 without too much cheese.

Shielded Brace from armor masters handbook is prolly among the best feats for a Two Hander. It does limit your weapon choice a bit but No-Dachi is pretty awesome. And it's essentially 3-7 points of AC for the price of 2 feats.

Also if Dueling Gloves are the main reason to go Arsenal Chaplain I'd be weary of this choice as that 15k item will take a long time to get in PFS.

Greater Weapon of the Chosen is definitely worth it. Not so much for accuracy, although it does protect you form bad rolls. It's more for crit amplification. When you roll twice and take highest, you chance of threatening a critical is much higher.

Why can't you take Advanced Weapon Training? Is this a PFS specific rule, because as the rules are written and as I understand you should qualify for Advanced Weapon Training.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Yes. From the additional resources page: All archetypes in this book are legal for play. The Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain does not qualify for the Advanced Weapon Training on pages 18–19.

Okay so it's simply a PFS rule, otherwise a Arsenal Chaplain should qualify.

Just wanted to make sure since I built a thrown weapon Arsenal Chaplain that involved using Advanced Weapon Training to get Trained Throw.

You can take the AWT feat, but because the archetype only gets weapon training in focus weapons, it can't take the automatic AWT a fighter can by trading a new weapon group.

Oh well yeah, that's how I did it.

Because you qualify as a fighter with your bonus feat and have weapon training for your focused weapon, you can select Advanced Weapon Training as a feat using your bonus feats.
