Okay, here's a bit of a way out there suggestion for an issue theme...

How about an issue full of articles on how to

- write cool stuff

and so on...

I think there's certainly value in helping people write better material, whether it's for public consumption, or their home games.

That may be too niche an audience for the actual issue (people who play Pathfinder, who play in Golarion, who visit the site, and who want writing tips...).

But as a companion product? Or a series of articles, interviews, Q&A, blog posts, to celebrate a milestone issue? I'm game.
Just as I'm happy to talk anyone through their draft submission, if they ask. And general encouragement on the boards.

I can certainly remember the circumstances surrounding the genesis of each idea, and why I picked that subject, that approach. Some came from reading the regional gazetteer, and spotting an undeveloped hook, for others the mechanics came first, from fixing an absence of options for a player in my home game, others were a deliberate attempt to crack a new article category. And then the stuff that haunted my dreams and forced me to write it.
All different jobs, requiring different tools.

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about proposing it as an ongoing article series along the lines of Ask a Shoanti.

I certainly wouldn't want to commit to an ongoing series like that as a single source of advice (I'm no expert in every area of design), so I guess Tim and Paris would need to ask the writers of the best examples of each article type to write a column on working on that type as each issue comes along.

It should be reasonably easy to work such articles into each issues theme, e.g. for the river kingdoms, an article on designing aquatic creatures would be a good fit.

Maybe it could be a guest article series - e.g. ask Neil Spicer to write about good encounter design, SKR for an article on expanding on faiths and gods, Adam Daigle on good creature design at CR 1-3, CR 7-9 and CR 17+ - that way, we can all learn from the best!

If the idea is to go for an anniversary issue, there's something to be said for not focusing on any specific theme, and trying for as diverse a set of articles as possible, and just throw in a little of everything.

That or look way back to the ideas initially laid out for Pathfinder The obvious implication of naming the whole book line for the Pathfinder Society (and this magazine after their Wayfinders) is that someone was planning to focus adventures on the exploration of deep uncharted wilderness, but somehow things got sidelined into predominantly urban settings. And/or a serious look at the non-human core races who really tend to fade into the background.

So, take a look at issue #7. That was our "5 Years of Pathfinder" issue. I think we will be taking a similar approach for issue #17, maybe the "Last 5 Years of Pathfinder...".

That's basically 10 APs to use, and the more recent ones to boot.

We are still talking about exactly HOW we'd do it, though.

Tim

Hmm, issue #7's theme was "Pathfinder Year One". So, maybe "Pathfinder year Two" or "Pathfinder Last Year"?

Has anyone had their contributor copy of #15 yet?
Asking because my attempted purchase of a color edition fell flat (all sold out).

I have not received mine. My most recent sub shipment email did not say it was included in the upcoming shipment either.

But I did finish editing an article you wrote for #16...

I didn't get my contributor copy for #15 either, but I thought it was because I forgot to provide my preferred shipping option by the deadline provided. Hearing that maybe they haven't been sent out yet gives me some glimmer of hope that I might still receive it.

Jumping in to express my gratitude (and some surprise) at being picked on my first go around. I'm really looking forward to seeing something I wrote in print for everyone else to enjoy!

Just got word on Friday that the Wayfinder#15 contributor copies are now in the system and are prepped to go out within the week.

Thanks for your patience, and be sure to thank Paizo for agreeing to do this again!

We've been so busy catching up on Wayfinder #16, and trying to fix up and finalize the Wayfinder Bestiary, that we have fallen down on the job announcing the theme for the next Wayfinder, #17.

So, here it is:

"Another Five Years of Pathfinder: 2012-2016."

This is the sequel to our #7 issue, "Five Years of Pathfinder" which dealt with all the Adventure Paths up to that point, Spring 2012.

Adventure Paths that are fair game for #17 are:
Skull and Shackles (February 2012)
Shattered Star (August 2012)
Reign of Winter (February 2013)
Wrath of the Righteous (August 2013)
Mummy's Mask (February 2014)
Iron Gods (August 2014)
Giantslayer (February 2015)
Hell's Rebels (August 2015)
Hell's Vengeance (February 2016)
Strange Eons (August 2016)

Deadline will be January 1st, 2017 at 11:59 PM Pacific. Yes, you get all New Year's Day to recover and make your final pass.

We'll get the official call for submissions up soon.

Hmm, I like the idea of a Q&A...

I have a couple questions regarding the Heroes Hoard in this issue, as I hope to use some content in my iron Gods game.

1.Elixir of Radiation resistance: What is the duration?
2.Mantle of the blind iron eye: What is the will save DC?

Elixirs typically only last for 1 hour.

The Mantle is essentially doing a "Hide from Robots" spell....but thing is, there IS NO such spell, yet. If we treat it like Ring of Hide from Animals or Undead, it'd probably something like a DC 12 or 13. Anyone is free to correct me on that, though....
