So, you used the world "old" when referring to a woman.
In the U.S., that's a capital offense!

So, a bit of venting here because after my vehement rebuttal to Rosita I'm trying to keep things ultra-low-key on FaWtL for a while:
But with no receipt and no proof other than all of our word that we did not buy $50 worth of frozen yogurt, it's all the legwork of getting in touch with the owner and getting it cleared up. A huge PITA for a $25 charge. But $25 is enough to make me do it.
On the other hand, Impus Major was utterly hopeless even as a freshman in high school, and now that he's a junior he's really pulled his act together to the point that I'm really proud of him.
Anyway, lunch is over. Back to the slide mines!

We had some similar-yet-different issues with our daughter. She's got Sensory Processing Disorder (which puts her on the autism spectrum), but she hides it rather well. A lot of her teachers simply didn't/couldn't/wouldn't understand what it was she needed for them to do, even though she had a very detailed IEP explaining it. She needed to sit at or near the front row. She needed the teacher to wear a mic that was linked to an earbud that our daughter could hide under her hair. They needed to check in with her and assess if she really was understanding the material, even if she said she understood it. It's the nature of the problem - the brain mutates what she sees/hears/touches/tastes and she *doesn't usually know it* unless she has contextual incongruities, which she doesn't always see/hear/taste/touch/understand/etc/etc/etc. It took every ounce of her mental stamina to concentrate hard enough to keep up with classes. By 5th-6th period she was simply spent, so scheduling was just as important for her as anything else. Put a difficult class late in the day and she would have no hope of passing it, which would bleed into all of her other classes to the point where she would give up on everything dealing with school.
To be fair, it was also difficult for us to tell how much was the disability, and how much was "she was a teenager" (mid-20's now). A simple example of what she dealt with - I asked her if she could grab my shoes for me. "Sure, where are they?" They're on the other side of the living room chair. "Ok." She walks right past the living room chair, and starts digging in the closet. CHild, they are just on the other side of the chair. To your right. "I'm LOOKING there, and they just aren't there!" Continues digging in the closet. No, kiddo, look at the chair. She does. Now look at the floor, still in the direction of the chair. "OH, why didn't you say so? I've been looking in the closet."
It was really, really bad in junior high. By high school, some of her teachers were great, and some of them were about as useless as nipples on men for her particular needs.

OMG. I wonder whether she and Impus Major have something similar.
I think I've posted this before, but with Impus Major it's really distressing. Hand him a pencil in the living room and say, "Take this into the kitchen and put it in the blue box."
Distract him in any manner during his trip.
He will completely forget what he was supposed to do. And he gets really upset about it.
But at least he has an IEP.
Impus Minor is just a "drama queen", for lack of a better term, but it's an unfair characterization. He is, quite literally, so overwhelmed with distress that his body cannot function. He starts throwing up and everything. So we've been teaching him coping strategies, and he's improving fast enough that by the time he's 17 or 18 he should be a fine young man.
But just like we said about Impus Major -- it's carrying him on our backs until he hits that age that's so hard.
But meh. It's what parents do.

When I get home I'll find the title of the book both of you will want to peruse. If you read the first chapter or two of this book and it checks every box on your mental list, then there's a really good chance it's something similar to what our daughter has. There are medical tests for it now, usually involving an audiologist and some other specialists. Just getting the diagnosis helped our kid, because it at least gave a name and a reason for the problems, and not just "I'm a frickin' weirdo" running through her head all the time.
We had to cut the tags out of all of her clothing because she couldn't handle the feeling of it touching her skin.
Light hugs are bad. Makes her feel like she's been covered in spiders. Hard, but brief hugs are better. Don't even think of accidentally brushing her hand with your fingertips.
She had an upset stomach all the time because she, and there's just no other way to put this, could feel digestion happening. It's better for her to be vegan - she has more issues with meat and anything fried.
She can't handle spices...at all...like regular every day black pepper is roughly equivalent to a ghost pepper for her.
Written instructions have to be read to her so that she has a frame of reference - if what she hears doesn't match up with what she's reading, then she knows there's a problem. The trick now is to figure out what the discrepancy was.

Nah, that's not either of the Imps.
Impus Major is utterly invulnerable. It makes him a really impressive kid, but can be frustrating. His problem has been examined, and everyone agrees it exists, but nobody can figure out a name for it.
Impus Minor is vulnerable, but nothing like what you described. He's just not emotionally mature yet. So that's just a time thing.
I *do* have a friend with very similar dietary restrictions as your daughter's. He won't even eat sandwiches with aioli because it's, "Much stronger than mayonnaise".

This is what mine is more like. That and attention deficit. But he gets that last part honestly, so... can't really complain too much about that!
Mostly, I meant my post as a minor commiseration to a single point of being a parent.
Thank you, though! Your concern is awesome, and you should feel awesome!

So, lisamarlene:
(1) Are we on for Saturday, or is Whingey Wizard going to still be in SoCal?
(2) If we're on, are ribs OK?
1a) Provisionally, *yes we are on*, and 1b) he comes home late Thursday (that's going to be his schedule... Sunday morning through Thursday night, so no Rivoli outings for me! pout.).
BUT
His syllabi for his classes for next term are due on the 8th, and going by how well he usually manages time and plans to deadline, he may or may not be ready to jump off a bridge by Saturday.
BUT as far as I'm concerned, we're gaming anyhow.
And 2) Dear god YES YES YES.
My mother always said food wasn't worth the bother if it didn't make you sound like an obscene phone call.

Yes you would. She's me-but-wiser, with less whinging and drama and more just getting off her ass and doing something about it.
Except she doesn't understand any kind of gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, manga, or anything else.Although last year she finally discovered the joys of cosplay as a pitch-perfect Log Lady.
She's the type of woman who believes you can do almost anything if you've got enough sense to read a book about it (home plumbing repair, upholstery, re-wiring a ski boat, etc.) AND THEN SHE ACTUALLY DOES IT AND IT WORKS.
She makes great pie. And she's sarcastic and funny as hell.

So this is pretty important, lisamarlene: You're going to have to gauge Whingey Wizard's mood before Saturday's game.
Everything that Iuliana has done to hose every NPC throughout the AP is coming home to roost next session. It isn't pretty. He may even choose to retire her rather than face the music.
So, at certain times, he would cherish such an event as roleplaying of massive proportions. Other times it would send him into despair. You guys are just about to meet someone who knows everything about the PCs, and whose job it is to make them despair. Iuliana's behavior over the first 3 books makes her waaaaay too easy of a target.
It's all kinds of fun to run as a GM, but I don't like to hammer vulnerable players.
Let me know.
Ildervok is on his recruiting drive, and has not one or two, but FOUR PCs and NPCs to choose from! Oh, the riches!

Is Iuliana likely to die, or will life just get a lot more "interesting" for her?
Is there any way he can actually roleplay decisionmaking whilst facing the music, or is it just, "Now it's time for the Cudgel of Fate!" ?Honestly, I don't like Iuliana; she reminds me a bit too much of Princess Vespa, and as a wizard, she has delusions of competence. But W.W. is attached to her, and he gets all bent out of shape when one of his PCs dies.
(psst... it's only a game!)

LOL. Nah, it's basically, "Oh, by the way, the decisions you made wiped out everyone you care about. Nicely done!"
And yes, he'll be involved in the decision-making after that...

For those who are curious and don't mind Crimson Throne spoilers (and you can choose whether or not to read this, LM; you pretty much already know the history, so you'd just be spoilering the repercussions):
So, as always, Whingey Wizard insisted that he wanted to play nobility, "for the roleplaying", and then fought with me incessantly to get free perks for it. "Since I'm nobility, I should have bodyguards, right?" "I go to the bank of Abadar and buy a bunch of potions of Remove Disease on my family's credit."
To say that it's a "sore point" with me is akin to comparing the sun to a campfire.
In any case, he is playing Iuliana Jeggare, a daughter of the Jeggare family who was cut off when she was falsely accused of aiding and abetting in her best friend's drug overdose. All a nice background.
But...
So it made perfect sense (at least to me) that Count Tiriac would send a formal protest to the Queen and she, looking for any way to increase her power, would use it as leverage to finally bring down House Jeggare. I did have House Jeggare send Iuliana a desperate plea of, "You have to go to Ustalav and clear this up!", to which her reply was, "What's in it for me?"
Since the queen's spies knew about Geezlebottom's attempt to help Iuliana, once the party was clearly out of town for a prolonged period, she took him out as well.
So Iuliana will learn that she took down not only her own house, but her mentor as well.
Fun times!

Oh crap, boomerang name dropping...rest of the party duck!
I think they all know me too well already. Once the deed was done, not one but TWO sets of masterwork tools from two different PCs got shipped to Ramoska with profuse apologies for their boorish teammate.
So not only did his fellow noble treat him boorishly, but her "subordinates" showed grace and manners.
It was pretty funny all around.

OK. I'm going to out-and-out say it: It felt great to go to my physical after turning 50, and being able to tell my nurse practitioner:
My blood work looked good, my blood pressure is down (107/73), so things are coming up roses...
...this year.
(Always fun to be at that age where "next year might bring something new" is a threat, rather than a promise...)

Nope. Which typically means either chili dogs or Gordo's. I'm leaning towards chili dogs, just because I've seen your kids wolf down hot dogs at an amazing clip...
