Ring of Forcefangs question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hello everyone,

We have kind of a debate around the table about the Ring of Forcefangs being a little OP. I think we are missing some ruling somewhere.

The way the player played it was against a villain during a combat check, he recharged his whole discard pile, along with the ring, and for each card added a 1d4 to his check against the villain, easily obliterating him.

To me and the other players it seemed a little overpowered and we think we are missing something about how to use the Ring. Usually effects like this will at least bury or banish the card. One of my friend also suggested that the 1d4 was maybe to augment the difficulty of the check itself.

Anyway, we could use some external opinion on this, thanks :)

From the Rulebook, page 10:
If you are instructed to play, reveal, display, discard, recharge, bury, banish, or otherwise manipulate a card, that card must come from your hand unless otherwise specified.

The Ring of Forcefangs doesn't specify a source, so each recharged card must come from your hand.

... and if your recharge your whole hand with the ring, there is no spell or weapon left to attack the villain... good luck with that...

Don't have my cards on me, but I'm 95% certain that the Ring is an item that determines the skill you're using (e.g. it's a "For your Combat check" type card); you can't play most weapons or spells along with it anyway.

That explain a lot, it seems there was some confusion on the rules, we are not native English speakers so sometimes we misinterpret them. Knowing this, it makes the ring not as good as originally thought.

Thanks for your help everyone.

It's still really really good. Ring of Forcefangs + Time Stop = Hilarity.

Is Time Stop new in WOTR? I fell like I saw it before.

Yes, Time Stop is new in WotR. Time Stop is of course based on a spell of the same name from the RPG, so perhaps that is where you heard of it from.

I had a lot of Deja Vue moments in the last week so this must have been one of them.
