OK, so it doesn't look like it's on track to earn back the marketing budget on its own, but it seems they're making a killing on merchandising.

If the film is successful purely on the strength of merchandising, does that merit a sequel?

I haven't seen much merchandising around, to be honest, but yes, they could do well out of it (even if some of the merchandising is going rather out of its way not to feature the cast on the boxes). And if a film makes loads on merchandising that can help it get a sequel. A revenue stream is a revenue stream, especially these days.

As soon as this movie came out, Walmart got toys of the original ghostbusters. Collect all four, at about $30 each, and you can assemble the ghostbusters logo on a stand.

I wonder if they will count sales of that towards this movie.

Despite horrendous pre release talk I went to see it today and it was a decent movie..quite funny actually.

Would I buy it for my DVD collection..not sure, and its people like me that Sony needs to buy the home version so they can make back marketing..its a decent movie, but will never be a go to when I am bored movie like groundhog day or stripes or even hell caddysack..

Saw it. Liked it a lot.

Superior to Ghostbusters 2 in just about every way, had a couple of jokes that went on too long or got revisited too often.

Holtzmann is my new wildly inappropriate fictional character crush, because insane gearhead lady who takes on an army of ghosts with a mad cackle is my kind of woman.

Every performance was at least decent.

Not wild about the shots clearly intended for 3-D, but mostof theaction was satisfying.

Want to see this cast tackle these roles again.

That is all.

I saw the movie two nights ago and I was positively surprised. The impression I got from the trailer was a rather dull movie with a “the more we scream the funnier it is” mindset. So I didn’t expect much. What also got my expectations down was that I saw the original last week to update myself and found it to be kind of entertaining, but far from a blast. And if the new one was supposed to be much worse I felt that I wasn’t in for all that good of a time.

But to my surprise I was proven wrong. It might be my radical feminist agenda or my general man hating ways but I found the movie to be very entertaining. I would even go as far as to say that I liked it better than the original. Sadly it petered out a bit to the end and resolving the main story felt somewhat weak to me. They could also have cut down on the action scenes leading up to the final confrontation.

All and all I think it was very entertaining and I would recommend it. Will probably rewatch it once it is released on dvd.

Holtzman was EASILY the best thing about this movie.

Patti: What year is it?

Holtzman: It's 2040, our president is a plant.

Patti: WHAT?!?!?!

Hotlzman: 'm just kidding you were gone 2 seconds.
