What if, we made a Magus with the Mindblade and the Spellblade archetypes?

Alas, the archetypes are incompatible. Although it would effectively mean you would have a split personality since the mind blade resides inside you when not in use, I think?

You could combine the two archetypes, but it would be an awful, awful idea.

You can only summon your athame with Pool-Sourced Athame because you don't prepare spells. Using your athame is mutually exclusive with using your Mindblade weapons, and not as good. Both of the other Spellblade arcana are significantly worse than useless, so you're basically trading away spellstrike and your first magus arcana for... nothing.

I honestly wish they weren't compatible, just for the safety of the poor souls who might otherwise combine them.

Why is the athame incompatible with the mindblade?

I wish spellblade just didn't exist, so nobody would trap himself by taking it.

Well, they both create weapons, not enchant weapons you already have. So you'd just have to use them separately - but you only have so many hands.

If you really wanted to, you could manifest a weapon in one hand, create an athame in the other, and use two-weapon fighting. But then you lose spell combat as well, your action economy falls to pieces, and you're basically reduced to an eldritch knight with worse BAB, worse spellcasting, and some okay-ish magic weapons that you have to burn pool points just to use. Plus you're two-weapon fighting, without much in the way of, well, anything at all to support it.

Then this would play identical to a Magus with only the Mindblade archetype, because using both abilities at the same time is highly impractical, and the Mindblade is simply much better.

Frankly, spellblade is a trap.

Sorry. I was thinking blade bound when I said they were incompatible.

Not sure if it helps... But alchemists have a discovery called vestigial arm, a four level investment gives you four arms and some helpful buffs. I would find things that get rid of bomb if possible, if you were to do that. The enemies would be really confused. ("So that dude has four arms. Okay... Wait he just made two swords out of nothing, and is chugging stuff!")

Or a two-level investment and the Extra Discovery feat. Yes, you can play your own personal Doc Ock right now! :D

Weird, he looks scary, but his magic is really weak and he can't hit anything.

I guess focus on buff extracts. Every bit helps there. If you really want to go crazy you can go tentacles too. Probably not the most relatable party face but... Also mind blade is probably the better choice. Spell blade has a maximum limit of one minute but mindblade doesn't. Mindblade also allows dual wield later. For arms is still just amazing for anyone though.
