Would Gorum have Sacred Prostitutes?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Would Gorum have his version of sacred prostitutes (male or female) to boost morale before a battle? I guess they would stoke egos by telling warriors how brave and strong they are or get them to kill as many of the enemy as possible, so that they could get more pleasure on a return trip?

Or is the thought of battle the only thing that boosts morale for Gorumites?

No. Having sacred prostitutes is something a religion does when they consider sex itself sacred...Gorum doesn't feel that way about it. Battle is sacred, sex is only relevant as a reason for violence and to breed more warriors.

There might well be prostitutes among Gorumite communities, and young people in general might easily be most attracted to the greatest warriors due to Gorumite culture, and both of those might well be morale boosts...but sacred prostitutes imply prostitutes who are part of/financed by the temple/religion, and Gorum doesn't do that sort of thing.

Gorum's a fighter, not a lover.

So no. His priesthood won't care if you dally with camp followers one way or the other.

This is great example however, on when deities can work together, even if they don't see eye to eye. ;-)

Gorum would have sacred wrestlers whom you may face in oiled combat in order to commune with your god when battle and bloodshed are not at hand.

Battle is all that is needed to boost moral for a real worshiper of war!

I think they call them Sacred "Camp Followers"...

Indeed. Calistria and her battle-prostitutes following around Gorum's mercenary companies and armies. The murderhobos probably get off on seeing some blood, and those wasp chicks are all about getting violent with whips.

Match made in Elysium.

To be a Gorumite prostitute you must prove yourself by crushing an ogre skull with your thighs.

So.... just a different kind of "head hunter"?

Sure, they're built like American Gladiators, and you have to grapple them to earn their service. Also, they're really into rough trade.

The male, or female gladiators?

Just because there are camp followers, prostitutes etc around a Gorumite temple or army doesn't mean they are a part of the cult. "Sacred" implies that they are accepted and valued highly by the dogma, and the Gorumite dogma has very little to say on anything that isn't combat.

Is one of these sacred wrestlers perhaps a succubus?

an interesting question, but I doubt it. I don't think he would mind the presence of camp followers, though.

If you have the energy for that you haven't been fighting and training hard enough!

Of course. Sex is just another form of battle where you take your enjoyment of piercing your opponents with force and skill of your weapon until they yield under your might.

But you can't win gorumite battlemistresses just by money or trinkets. You must show them your scars from battles, trophies taken from your enemies or another proof of your worthy before they accept your challenge.

If fight while make love, same thing. Some like rough.

I would posit that Gorum would be fine with it. Fighting in a war should be all encompassing, and anything that removes distractions would be beneficial to the warrior.

Alternately, you could argue that only the greatest warriors and survivors are welcomed to the victory orgy with the sacred prostitutes, with the highest kill counts being permitted the first selection from the men and women in the camp. This would encourage more ferocity and greater competitiveness in war, which would also be approved.

No.

They are massive, hairy, dark skinned and mustached men who thrill at the grunts of your exertion as you grasp helplessly at their slippery bodies and perfect form.

as said above they are called camp followers, our lord of iron doesn't give much of a damn about love(a reason to fight) or sex(creates more warriors)

Well, I want Cloud to be the best crossdresser, so it can't be avoided.

Sure! Anything to convince more people to go to war!

They's probably be pretty good at fighting too!

Heck...maybe gorum supports loving monagamous relationships. As long as you are both on the battlefield.

That is the trick This is an actual historical thing- The Sacred Band of Thebes- a unit made up entirely of lovers. Why?

Because if you don't get your shit together, then the person you love will be stabbed with a spear right in front of your eyes. Motivation- having your loved one of the front line means you can't run back home to their arms- you have to directly protect them.

Or at least have a blood rage of revenge when they die. Obviously.

I think gorum might appreciate this- betting everything you have on the front lines. Dedicating your entire life to battle by having all of your relationships on the battlefield.

I know musical links are more of an Off-topic board phenomena, but this is too relevant to resist.

This is one of most interesting subjects ever. Do not let it fall forgotten.
