So I've been toying with the idea of a cajun (undead and plagues are generally associated with swamps, so it just seemed to fit the flavor) cleric of Urgathoa who wades into battle with a scythe, full plate, and a horde of undead.
At the moment the idea isn't really fleshed out beyond what I want it to do.
Given that, what do you guys suggest for a build?
20 point-buy, third party and 3.5 allowed (with GM approval), level 6 starting
Not a build, but you should look at this archetype and these feats.
Undead lord archetype
Thanks for the reply. I've actually gotten a pretty basic layout of what I'm doing.
Taking the drow for nobility racial feats (that spell resistance is going to be so... mmm...)
That's 3 feats, which is kind of hefty, but well worth it. After that, I'm getting him full-plate (another feat: heavy armor proficiency) and selective channel with the undead domain (yet to decide on the second one) for the ability to bop myself and get healed by my own channels.
A suggestion, take a level or at most two levels in fighter. Armor and weapon proficiencies and a combat feat. A fighter gets one and first and second level. If only one level take Channel Smite saving your feats for the other needed feats. Another level with fighter I'd grab Weapon Focus for the combat feat.
We have done this in our group double dipping fighter with non martial classes and in most cases it works really well.
The cleric Crusader archetype grants some free martial feats without sacrificing spell casting progression. Heavy Armor is on the list with another bonus feat at level 5. Crusader only gets one domain instead of two, however. The Divine Protection feat is nice if you are thinking high charisma - incredible saving throws. A reach weapon on a full plate cleric is always nice.
The Domains depending on what they are may not be worth the trade off. Another suggestion is Separtist. Pick a Domain your deity doesn't have functioning at levels lower. It's not a bad archtype. Although since you are going Urgathoa I'd suggest Undead Lord since it fits with her.
If you never plan melee and with this archtype you may not have to then you won't need the level or two of fighter. For me a level and even two doesn't hurt me. Still get my ninth level spells and one even two combat feats.
