3 people marked this as a favorite.

In the spacefaring Aethera Campaign Setting the cantor wields powerful divine magic and sings the song that wove the very fabric of the universe into being. Delve into the new content created by veteran Pathfinder RPG author David Ross and newcomer Andrew Fields in the cantor open playtest. You'll explore the power of hymns, verses, and divine songs to empower your allies and crush your enemies into stardust.

Due to release in 2016, the Aethera Campaign Setting includes a new class for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: the cantor. By participating in this playtest you can help sculpt the core content of this class and be a part of the creative process for this exciting, retro-futuristic space opera campaign setting.

Starting today, Kickstarter backers you can download a playtest version of the cantor and a public release of the playtest will be available soon from Paizo.com (we'll have a link made available when it goes live!) Build a cantor, use it in your games, and then let us know in this thread what you think. Tell us what works, what you think doesn't, and why. Share your stories of using the powers of the cantor in your home games.

This playtest will remain open until Saturday, February 27th, 2016. Although the playtest will eventually come to a close, we will continue to allow free downloads of the cantor playtest PDF until the release of the official Aethera Campaign Setting.

We at the Aethera team are incredibly excited to hear your feedback and see what you think about this new class. If you haven't heard about Aethera yet and want to find out more, check out our Facebook page for concept art, news, and more!

Also, don't forget you can still download the pre-alpha Preview Guide to learn a little more about the setting.

The backer dropbox link changed. You must have clicked on in between the updates. If you check back it should be working fine now. I'll PM you the link as well just in case.

I got the same message from the link in my email.

Unfortunately I'm running into the same problem.

You folks should visit the Kickstarter page and try clicking through the link from there. If you're clinking through from the original notification email it'll be to the wrong url. It seems to be working for all the backers I've spoken with now.

Seems that the link embedded in the image is faulty, even on kickstarter. The one in the text worked though. Looking forward to giving this a try!

Dark Archive

Aha, i found in on feb 6th entry for backers only on this page. Not posting direct link so that only backers can see it as author intended

I just downloaded the pdf after finding the aforementioned issues in the email... perhaps resend the email with a working link to the backers? :)

I did a follow-up email this morning with the updated link, so everyone should be on the same page (ha!) now. The paizo.com download for general audiences should be available in a few days. I'll be sure to post the link to that here as a reminder.

Lookn pretty cool so far. I would make one, but I am lazy and use Hero Lab. Is there plans in the future to make Hero Lab files? Not now I understand, but after the book is published?.

PS: I can't wait to get my backer copy!

I feel you with the Hero Lab - I built some of my contributions with its help. ^_^

Is that something you can share with the DEV team so they can get a start on the Hero Lab stuff, providing that it is in the cards?

If it ends up being a thing, I'll throw both my files and my (limited) expertise behind the effort. I wouldn't count on it too much, though, at least for the foreseeable future.

Silver Crusade

I see similarities to the shaman, but with +bard stuff, I like it, I have thought previously, I wish I could inspire via bard stuff. I like it, reminds me of a Dr. Who episode.

Question on playtest info: Table 1: Cantors have verse at level 1, and at level 2? is this correct or a miss print?

Also, this seems like a support class, but missing lesser restoration, restoration, remove disease, and a few bard must haves, haste for one.

The Enter Image spell is missing for the Spellsong feat projection and remote casting. Given that Cantors are vocal, it seems to make sense they would have this over other bards. Given that they are wisdom based, remote sensing from Enter Image would also be appropriate.

EDIT: adding arcane mark might be neat so you don't have to take two world magic to get it would be nice.

Under Dusk Hymn, I believe the second spell should be Time Shudder, not temporal stutter.

Under Dusk Hymn the Greater Verse (8th level) lets the Cantor give allies Haste without having to cast the spell for the duration of the divine performance.

The voice of purity verse can get rid of disease and poison, but it is worded oddly. I read it to say the effect of the disease is negated only for the duration of the divine performance. After the song it would return.

Quote:

Voice of Purity (Su): Diseases, inhaled poisons, and noxious gaseous effects (such as stinking cloud) are negated in a 10-foot radius around the cantor AS LONG AS the cantor maintains any divine song.

Maybe it should read:

Voice of Purity (Su): Diseases, inhaled poisons, and noxious gaseous effects (such as stinking cloud) are negated in a 10-foot radius around the cantor WHEN the cantor maintains any divine song.

changing "as long as" to "when" would make it read as permanent.

I really wish that you guys had setup a forum on your website for backers to get together and work with this stuff. Once the PDF goes out to kickstarter backers (like me), it would be nice to have a central location to find gamers to setup Roll20 games together.

@Michael Monn: Setting up a proper, dedicated forum at aetherarpg.com wasn't really in our plan for our first year, especially since lots of other alternatives exist. I think it's a great idea to keep the backer community integrated, however. I feel like it's also a good idea to leverage Paizo's extant network of tabletop gamers and strong community support/forums too. Before the full PDF comes out to backers (probably when the backers' early-access guide is released) we can set up some dedicated "Aethera" group-finding threads and discussion threads here and link back to them via Kickstarter.

@Uleam: Thanks for catching the typos in the dusk hymn and the other feedback. One of the challenges in designing the cantor is ensuring that while t exists side by side with the bard it doesn't become a replacement for some of the bard's utility. Making sure we hit just the right balance there is one of the things we definitely want to get out of the playtest.

It's correct and actually the table has a couple of misprints on it. The table doesn't correctly show when the cantor gets new verses from their hymn. The ability text is correct with regards to contradictions between table and text. This is marked for revision in the final draft. Thanks for the assist!

A reminder that today is the last day to get in feedback for the cantor playtest. I've had several people PM me their results or reach out via email and the facebook page for Aethera so please feel free to use whatever communication you'd like!

Thanks so much to everyone who has helped playtest this class, offered feedback, suggestions, and praise for all the hard work our team put into this. I think you'll all be excited to see where this project goes, and for those of you going to Paizocon you may get a chance to play in a full Aethera adventure, too!

We'll be leaving the playtest document available for download until the full Aethera Campaign Setting launches. Enjoy!
