Sorry to hear about the health woes (people and pet) and stolen property.

My wife took semi-feral momma cat to the vet for her rabies shot. The cat will be under the bed for the next day or two.

What is it with people today? They think anything NOT nailed down is free for the taking?

And in some cases, even if it IS nailed down! :/

It is my humble opinion that those who take property that does not belong to them, should be beaten with said property.

Just a thought.

It makes me smile.

Have a good (Or at least better) day everyone!

finding the guys who stole my bikes and beating them to death makes me feel warm and toasty inside. I probably should not smile as much as I do at the prospect, but my god...it turns my frown upside down.

Then again, killing them is so...pedestrian. I mean, once you kill someone, they are dead. But you can break someone so many, many times before it gets old. I want hear them beg for mercy that will not come until they least expect it, to give them hope that I will snatch away at the least opportune moment, repeatedly, until they become a shadow of their former selves, not recognizing the person they see in the mirror every day. I want to make them look upon me and despair, to see the sun each day and know only regret.

Bud Spencer,

*sigh*

I learned that he died from the friend's facebook post.

I loved his movies.

It's been ages since I saw any of his movies but The Big Grumpy will be missed...

My condolences aeglos & Drejk.

It's funny how media is sometimes so different across boundaries. I never saw or even heard of his films. Makes me wonder how much good stuff is out there undiscovered

In the hindsight he might be the reason for my fondness for good heart big brawny bruiser concept and had influence, however subtle, on my primary Legend Of The Five Rings characters, Senshin Samuii, a brawler ronin shugenja healer...

Exactly. Someone who loomed large in my personal history and you never heard of him.

I don't know about today with the movies but back in my youth Superheros where non existend over here. I knew that there where Superman movies and the Batman TV show from the 60s but I had never seen any comics or heard about any other superhero.

still today all the Superheros are only Cinema characters to me

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill where on the same level as Star Wars and Masters of the Universe for us in the early 80s

For us there were a lot of superhero animated shows. We had what used to be called the Saturday Morning cartoons, where all the TV stations (all 5 of them, LOL) would dedicate programming to children in an effort to sell them toys and cereals. Then Saturday afternoon we had Creature Double Feature which would play all those cheesy monster movies. It was where I actually saw my first international films with Hammer Studios, and the Japanese horror films like Godzilla and Attack of the Mushroom people.

Once cable became widespread the custom faded. We had 24-hour cartoons and horror movies..

What we need is an international cheesy movie channel. Hosted by the MST3000 crew.....

we had cartoons on our 3! channels but only paedagocical european ones and stuff like Heidi or Wickie but no commercials where allowed between kid shows ( and commercial breaks where unheard of in my childhood)

cable TV and private ad-funded TV started when I was 12

comics I read as a child where Asterix (frensh) Lucky Luke (belgian) Clever&Smart (spanish I think) and of course the Mickey Mouse weekly

and the bi-monthly "Walt Disneys funny pocket book" but only every second one because they featured Mickey (urgh) or Donald (yeaaiih)
somtimes they featured the only superhero I can think of: Phantomias - the secret avenger alter ego of Donald Duck, with a duckcave and duckmobile under the house

hammer studio movies are still only restricted to nightly hours here in Germany, even WWE is seen as to violant and only on TV after 8 o clock with an age16 code

full frontal nudity can be shown at any time and commercials for online sex shops will be in the ad-breaks of kid shows and sport events

Germans know how to watch television.

Grrrr,......

GOOD MORNING TREEFORTNAM!!!

So, interesting self observation. When i record everything I eat in a day.... I find I am actually eating more than I thought. And the calories are higher. It seems easy to see, but it is a brand of self-delusion that is particularly pernicious. I had thought I was doing really well, but looking at the list, I realize the little things I discounted like my kombucha/cider drinks, my life saver mints, the granola I put in my yogurt (seriously-220 calories for a 1/2 cup? I might as well crumble a snickers bar into my yogurt :/ ) they all add up quickly.

Oh well, documenting it is keeping me honest. Hopefully I will start to drop.

Actually we had six including PBS. IT WAS PBS/NBC/ABC/CBS and two indie UHF channels 56 and 38. But we were a major market (Boston) so I think that helped. When we spent the summers on the Cape, you were pretty much SOL with TV. None of the stations reached that far.

And now, some nostalgia:

Every Superfriends intro

One banana two banana three banana four...

Hong Kong Phooey. Number one super guy

The year 1994...

Creature ...double feature!

Memories, Light the corners of my mind

Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Memories, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

Made it to my mom's after a 14 hour drive. At least the weather was good - much better than last time.

Got here and asked my mom for the WiFi password because I have a new laptop since last year. "I have WiFi? I don't think I have WiFi." She gave me the password last year with no problem.

Fortunately, I remembered it. But she can't let it go. "What do I do with the WiFi? Should I unplug it? If I'm not using it, I don't want to pay for it."

Asterix! Man, I LOVED that comic when i was a kid. I first started reading them in French class and eventually found English versions too.

We had French exchange students every summer, so I loved Asterix! Also some British comic with a kid named Billy I think.

but the granola should keep you sated some time and has lots of fibre and should help keep your bowels healthy and is not bad for your teeth,

so calories: yes
but much, much better than a snickers

Billy Whizz in the Dandy? Since they were my founding comics the old Beano & Dandy (since unfortunately Topper & Beezer had stopped) & I was too naive/young for 2000AD or Viz. Brilliant comics which always had trouble attempting to adapt to the times.

Of course Asterix & Tin-Tin were the classics for longer stories with more involved plots than the aforementioned.

If those count, I did have Rupert, Oor Wullie and Asterix & Obelix.

I remember it being called Billy the Kid, or something similar, I had one book my uncle sent me. It had kind of a Dennis the Menace with cartoony horror elements feel to it. The one book I had he and his friends were trying to build a theme park out of trash and shit found around the neighborhood dump.

"The Super Friends Power Hour!" ;)

Oh, And I had 4 channels growing up, (Including PBS) until they added UHF, (the first one in My city was close enough to run a cable directly!) Then we had 5! ;P

O-O

My entire childhood, summarized in a few links,...

That is either the mostest awesomest thing ever,...

OR the saddest,... ;P

(Or both!) :)

We can never go back, but we have the memories Rags. Besides, despite the nostalgia, honestly animation is in much better form these days. I am a big believer in cable/internet and the emergent nöosphere. I just hope I can hold out until I can create my own virtual Sigil to game in.
