Car trouble is physically incapable of happening at anything resembling a convenient time, isn't it?

It spoils everything.. lol

It's pretty much the thing that spoils everyone's day.

Like today, I had small stone or rock fly into my windshield...and cause a crack.

Like I NEED to put more than the 1,200+ dollars in this car than I already have!!!

Ugh... I'm so sorry.

Eh. It's a small chip...I figure if I drive REALLY slow (and you know stay off the interstate) I'll be fine...until after 2018 anyway.

That is a pain. Does your insurance not cover the windshield? In MA it is part of the coverage.

Same here, and most places waive the deductible, so it's just the cost of the windshield and labor.

where in ma are you?

Not sure since I'm unclear about my insurance. Plus I don't want to have to deal with rate hikes.

Yeah, they will jack that rate up no matter how minor the incident.

Exactly. I'd much rather wait until I have the cash on hand and pay for it then than be paying for it for 5 years...

Just got out of the new Star Wars. Got to see it at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Very cool.

Also just returned from Star Wars, though just at a local theatre.

AWESOMEAWESOMELY

I've been driving with a chipped windshield for about 3 years now. It hasn't even started to crack. YMMV.

I drove along with gravel trucks on one commute, so got 3 chips in the windshield. Instead of having them replaced, I had one of those companies that does onsite repair (with resin or something, I don't know) come out and do their thing. They turned it in to insurance. It was much cheaper than replacing the windshield, and the repairs held just fine.

My insurance company dropped me for "excessive claims". The windshield chip repairs were my only claims. No tickets, no accidents, no nothing else. So yeah, beware insurance companies.

Insurance, for all its necessity these days, is still a racket.

It's always been a racket. That's why my grandfather got into it instead of staying a gardener. :p

There is always some joke in our games about some random Vecna anatomical item.

Silver Crusade

Afternoon, all. What did I miss?

Not too much, I think. I just got back from my 90 day checkup at the doctor's. Everything was really, really good for someone my age and weight. Then she said "pre-diabetic". Bleh.

Hm, sorry to hear about all teh car troubles! Hope everyone gets straightened out soon, and easy! :)

My insurance (State Farm) has never given me any trouble about my repairing my windows. And I once had to have the SAME front windshield replaced twice. In less than 3 days. :P

SOME of that is the individual agents, trying to maximize their $$$. and the rest is just business. :P I guess i have been lucky so far in that respect, with car insurance.

Dont get me started on my medical coverages over the years however,... :(

SO, University closed down Last Friday, so of course I'M booked with shows in my space through this Wednesday! Again, :(
ALMOST (but not quite) done with the front room. We will not have time to get new carpet installed, so we'll have to move all the furniture back in, because Christmas gathering is at MY house this year.
So, MAYBE by Thursday I'll be able to go Christmas shopping for my wife? MAybe?
If I'm lucky? :/

Happy Monday ya'all! :D

So...the tree isn't decorated but we DO have the lights on it. After some trouble, Mom insisting that you start with the end that plugs into the wall at the top of the tree instead of the bottom, and Alexa/the Dot trying my patience about finding carols by York Minster Choir...

I just got a notice from my landlord that the next time I renew my lease, I will have to prove to them that I have $100,000 personal liability coverage on my renter's insurance. fscking aholes.

Sheesh, I thought having renters insurance was OPTIONAL, you know, for the renter. To replace your stuff in case of catastrophe. It has nothing to DO with the landlord's building, so why does he care?

None of my business, Just curious. :/

Sounds like it's time for a new landlord. (But I'm a jerk like that) ;P

I hope at least it's nothing you have to worry about too soon? :)

Good luck Ed! :)

Perhaps you should consult with an attorney.

My old apartment complex required you to have renter's insurance, with them listed as an "interested party" or some such. I believe it was so that if you caused damage to the building they could make a claim on your insurance rather than theirs.

Yeah, we have to have it.

My place is too old with too many problems to get renter's insurance of any kind.

I just finished building a Dread (a psionic class for those don't know what that is) and then accidentally deleted the whole document. I went into my recycle bin and it's not there, either. I'm so angry I may have to go for a walk in the rain to calm down, and I HATE getting wet.

>.<

Try using a search function to find it? It may have been moved by a misclick to another folder rather than deleted.

Thanks! I'll try that.

Well, I gave that a shot. Nothing showed up. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I live in Brockton south of Boston. Are you in MA?

So plans for tomorrow:

Do last minute shopping because waiting until Saturday is a REALLY bad idea.

Some how get vaccinated because I forgot to get my Flu shot and the last time I tried they were out...

Possibly try to decorate the tree but more likely is I try to fix a slightly broken laundry cabinet that rests on top of our dry sink; said dry sink is probably older than most of the houses in my neighborhood.

Try to decorate and also wonder if Thursday I'll get any one to show up for gaming...

On the gaming part, and everything else too! ;P

Good luck with everything! I had a routine checkup appointment Monday and I'd forgotten to get my flu shot this year and they were out of the vaccine. So I guess I'll just go without and hope for the best.

I hope you get a crew together for your game, too!

I suspect that a lawyer will tell me the landlord is within their rights to include this provision in the lease. And if I don't like I have a right to find another place to live. Which I don't particularly want to do, because moving is a pain, especially when you're too old to do it yourself. I'm in decent shape for 70, but still...

Anyway, I have until August — the lease renews 1 September. Assuming I'm reading this notice correctly. My first impression was "you have to do this right now" (it starts "effective Jan 1, 2018") but then it says something about new/renewed leases, so I think I'm good for a while. Still annoying. I'll have to check my policy. maybe look for a new place, figure out how much moving will cost me... bah. Maybe I should just be Jack Reacher. No fixed address, no "stuff", just wander around the country getting into trouble. :-)

DC: you should be able to get a flu shot at most pharmacies for 0 copay if you have insurance. Or if your doctor plans to get more vaccine have the office call you when it comes in.

Thanks, Ed. I think my pharmacy is still offering flu shots, so I'll try to get up there Friday. Today and tomorrow I'm staying at home as I'm expecting a very, very expensive gift for my son to be delivered. There's never been a problem with package thieves around here, but this one is pretty large and easy to spot.

As someone who was much more recently in their 20s, I feel obligated to remind everyone that bad memories fade over time, but good ones tend not to.

For now, I tend to skew closer to The Murderburgers' assessment, as opposed to Bruce Springsteen's.
