If you like Cthulhu and Sherlock Holmes I would recommend this collection of short stories, very entertaining.
I have actually read this book. (AFTER I had read the entire collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, so I got all the references.) :)
I enjoyed it, and I'm not a big Cthulhu fan, (So I likely did not get all of the spooky references) so I think that speaks well for the book. ;)

It really is a great opportunity for my Daughter. I'm glad we could arrange for her to attend.
Today they spent all morning running around Park City Main street (Where the Olympics were held in Utah, and used as the central hub of Sundance activities) Doing photo shoots and interviews with the director for when the film is released in march/april.Sadly, the theater where the film is supposed to be showing right this minute, (The Redstone) got blacked out by a power outage. So the first public screening is officially cancelled. They will of course TRY to reschedule, but with the Sundance schedule being so tightly packed, it seems unlikely it will be tonight.
Still, overall it has been a really great weekend for her, full of opportunities to share her experience with Space Camp and now encourage younger kids to want to attend! :)
Getting up past midnight instead of morning, yay...

But I wouldn't want to be Stupid, even if it was Trust-fund Twit stupid. I can't even imagine the prison some of these people inhabit within their own skulls.
I would argue this is because of the priesthood mystique- smart has a long, bad history of separating itself from (at best) taking advantage of(at worst) stupid and not really being able to explain why in layperson terms without being really, really insulting. Add the considerable social graces smart tends to lack, and an educational system that tries to teach everyone the same thing/demand the same level of (outdated)proficiency regardless of what they are good at, and you have a recipe for disaster.

So,
The trip to Sundance was great, and my Daughter had a great time, and I think she made a good impression on the director, the producers and the publicists. :) The flurry of photo shoots and interviews on Sunday was fun and amazing to watch.
All was great, at least until we tried to get back on Monday,... ;P
Between weather delays, de-icing of planes, technical problems which caused cancellations/delays of flights, and missed flights, I was hosed by three different airlines yesterday! :/
Finally ended up by renting a car and driving the rest of the way (From Houston to Lafayette, about 3 hours. Actually ended up getting more sleep than if I'd stayed in a hotel and gotten up to catch another flight) :)
Still, all was good. Great trip, made new friends, great opportunity for daughter, and we survived the worst that weather and lousy/bad-attitude airlines service people could throw at us! ;P
We have declared it a successful Daddy/Daughter Time! :)
NOW,... Back to work,
Repairing the (non-physical) damage caused by mistakes my student workers made while I was gone, Catching up on paperwork that I forgot to do before I left, making up for missed rehearsals, and about a hundred emails.
NOT to mention my Daughter has at least 4 days of school work to catch up on.
The fun shall never end! ;P

Stupid has a long history of beating smart to death, because for many years running up to the modern age Stupid had the whip hand. Occasionally you'd get a double threat smart AND powerful/strong. Those were the world changers. Usually it was strong/stupid/inbred/titled.
Smart folk separated ithemselves into monasteries/nunneries to try and preserve themselves. Plus, if you enjoyed intellectual persuits it was literally the only game in town (in Europe at least). Of course this took their smart DNA out of the gene pool, so in the long run it was detrimental. Smart might once in a while manipulate stupid, but stupid could turn on a dime and smart usually had no backup. Power is power
Had a job interview last week. After the interview, the company said that they would definitely call on Monday or Tuesday to give me a definite yes/no answer. I spent all of Monday and all of Today sitting around with my phone on (and with my thumb up my ass) waiting for their call. Nobody called, not even to say "no." I sent them an e-mail asking if the position was still open. No response. This isn't even close to the first time this has happened. It's like I don't even exist.
Companies are bastards.
That doesn't mean you didn't get the job. You may be their second or third choice and they are waiting to see what their first choice does before making you an offer/breaking the bad news.

Yes, the board is having issues. You can get around from your user profile, but not from most of the internal clicky places (like the path at the bottom of each thread).

More SOP than conspiracy. Companies really only value money, not people. So try to get your first choice, then your second. Ignore everyone else until you fill the position. Sometimes, they wait until the new hire has actually started before they notify other applicants, hoping to get their #2 if the first person flakes or accepts a counteroffer from their current employer (if any). Not paranoid, not joking. It's how they work it.

It took me three different applications and interviews to get my current full-time job. Before that my hospital job basically let me know I'd be 'per diem ' for at least five years. Just before I got my full-time job I was given the 'option' of ACA healthcare at $800 a month. Basically half of what I made a month.
Even working three jobs I find myself stretched thin. I'm going to be 50 this year. I have had nothing but bad luck with both my jobs and my personal relationships. Every time I get close to getting to a surplus something happens. Now one of my dogs is ill and I'm looking at a vet visit.
Yet, you can't give up. It's easy to. I see them every day rolling in to the emergency room all fncked up. You gotta keep swinging, and never surrender
I know no one gives a fnck about me. I give a fnck about me. That's the only one who matters. And I try my best to support those I know who feel like no one gives a fnck about them.

lol is hilarious that I am living up to the multiple job stereotype to the point people forget which job is which. Second job is doing human sexuality research at local college.
