Tell me about Pathfinder in Space

So I made a blog post about something that I'm doing soon. So you don't have to click on the link here is the primary message.

"I've been planning and delaying this campaign for a while but I'm finally doing it now that I feel that I have enough material to do it justice. What I'm talking about is a long term Sci-Fi campaign using Pathfinder that I've titled "The Infinity Matrix" (It makes sense in the context of the campaign). Beforehand I've been running skirmishes and one shots using Sci-Fi material but I never had enough consistent players that were interested but now, starting February 21st, I'm running it.

... my reviews will be heavily biased towards Sci-Fi and Space-based third party products for Pathfinder. Of course I'll be continuing with requests and new things that I pick up, but in between those I'll be reviewing things with a science fiction slant starting tomorrow with Book of Heroic Races: Advanced Androids from Jon Brazer Enterprises until February 21st... Hopefully by the time I'm done I'll be able to also cover some of the material that I've been anticipating, like Aethera and Conquest of the Universe.

Not only that but I'll share adventure details, setting details, house rules, stat blocks and third party considerations that I'll be using for the campaign..."

What I need for you guys is this: If you have or know of any third party material I should cover for my month+ of Sci-Fi madness post below and let me know. Within my budget I'll go out and get it if I don't have it already. Also hit me up for your personal preference for third party spaceship rules as that has been a big obstacle. Eventually I'll be writing comparisons of spaceship rules to sort out what I want to use. This includes things based on technological equipment, classes with a sci-fi or space bent, campaign settings, bestiaries, posted home brew material or anything else that facilitates space travel or adventures in a technological future. I need a lot of material to write about.

I'm not sure it's 100% relevant, but there's always the Santiago AP by EN Publishing. Though, it got discontinued after the 4th adventure.

And who could ignore the Legendary Planet AP? Not my cup of tea, but it's probably more up your alley.

Sorry if this isn't what you meant you were looking for.

The old sailing the starlit sea kickstarter put out some starship rules. I don't think the rules are online anywhere anymore (our last KS update had a time limited dropbox for the last iteration).

At one point LPJ bought a airships ruleset out from a freelancer guy who was also working on a skyship heavy CS that could be ported easily to space. I had an alpha doc at one point when the CS was still in the hopper, but i think the skyship book is all that came of it. Skyships of Nova Avalon

Perusing my downloads, I also found Between Chains and Starlight, which is pretty much PF in SPAAAACE.

@Rotolutundro; I'll be doing a review of Santiago. I was unsure whether to do it in parts or as a whole because I was really not sure if it was going to go on past #4. I had just assume that it was coming in slow.

@archmagi1; Is Sailing the Starlit Sea still alive at all? I presume that there's nothing I can look at that's around anymore.

Between Chains and Starlight is getting a review, along with Space Potato's other releases. It's getting to be one of my top choices for rules because of the abundance of premade stat blocks for spaceships.

Don't miss "It Came from the Stars" from Zombie Sky Press.

The last KS update was from Jan 2015, and was a layout and editing for the dropbox release we got last year. The non KS messages that CGP sent out pretty well spelled it out as a failed KS that fell in with a case of the 'hard times.' From what I remember, CGP is still keeping it on the table for something in the future, but for all intents and purposes its a dead project.

Unfortunately it won't be available for February reviews, but I have been working on a set of spaceship rules for Pathfinder. It is kind of a back burner project at the moment and I expect a 3rd or 4th quarter 2016 release. The working title is Voidspace.

That's unfortunate but I promise to pick it up when it comes out. The few things I've looked at from Rusted Iron Games has shown me that your products are very concise which is something that most space ship rules I've seen so far lack which can make dealing with them tedious.

SPAAAAAAAAAACE!

Hi. Someone said my favorite word. Some of you may have heard of the Aethera Campaign Setting for use with Pathfinder! It's got magic and science blended together into a unique space fantasy setting where you'll be able to pilot magically-powered vehicles called Aetherships into battle!

We successfully Kickstarted in November and we're on course for May release. You can preorder a physical or PDF copy here!

See you folks in the stars :)

There are a couple 3.0/3.5 resources that I use to supplement spacefaring in my Pathfinder campaigns: When The Sky Falls from Malhavoc Press & Aether and Flux: Sailing the Traverse. It's a shame they haven't officially been updated for Pathfinder, but very little conversion is required to use either.

As for free, there is the old d20 Future part of the MSRD.

It is a really amazing campaign setting. I am sure there are a few things you can find useful.

For the record, although I do have a copy of d20 Modern/Future and plenty of related pdfs I'm going to stick with specifically Pathfinder compatible products, or at least ones that have the little Pathfinder logo on the front.

I highly recommend the Pathfinder version of Interface Zero, currently in BETA.

Which means its currently free. :)

(Full disclosure: I'm writing a novel set in this world so I may be a teensy biased.)

I'm surprised that Necropunk hasn't been brought up yet (it always does in these "scifi?" threads lol). In the game mastery section the core books has rules for things like zero gravity movement, exposure to vacuums, as well as feats, equipment, etc to go with it. You can cherry pick that if you want. It also has a more modern skill list, a more robust social systems (if you need it). Honestly, you can take or leave what you want from it. Necro and it's support books are like Endzeitgeist's favorite things we've put out *shrug*.

Interestingly enough I'm very guilty of Necropunk not popping up in my head whenever I go on about scifi in Pathfinder. I do have it and it is on the review pile for this month so there's that but for some reason I just don't think about it. I guess because I don't use much of it. A lot of it changes some assumptions and as such doesn't 'play nice' with other things being attached to it. But it has a lot of bits and pieces that are useful so it's strange that I don't think about it much.

Well, I was about to plug the Aethera campaign setting (I'm a backer), but it seems that the author beat me to it!

It's out of print, but there's also the d20 Future supplement for the d20 Modern RPG from WotC. It's written using the 3.5 OGL base ruleset, although there are some fundamental differences between d20 Modern and 3rd-ed D&D. The book seems to be going for about $35 on eBay. The PDF is also available for sale on DriveThruRPG for about half that.

Good luck!

We've cherry picked parts of it for game's we've run outside of Necropunk too. The social combat system is fun (and there are conversion rules in the book for a "typical" PF game) and makes social characters downright deadly. The weapon modification stuff is so much fun (bonus + detriment = new weapon). If you want something to scare the pants off your party toss something with the phase mechanic attached to it at them.

Aethera I'm a backer for, and hope to get my hands on some racial crunch before my campaign starts, but not much I can say or do on that front because it doesn't exist yet.

I have d20 Future on PDF but haven't read deeply into it other than to dig for a few homebrew mechanics and to figure out how the Mecha rules for the d20 Mecha Compendium. But I won't be talking about that much other than past house rules.

I have dedicated to reading into Necropunk much deeper than I have before. All in all there are a lot of things that I have had for a while that I haven't reviewed yet on the subject. Amethyst, Necropunk, Neurospasta, Between Chains and Starlight, Star Tramps, and Veil of Truth are all things that I peck at but don't use much for one reason or another.

I made another blog post about classes I'm including and classes that didn't make the cut for whatever reason.

The list is basically;

Mundane Classes: Enforcer, Cogitator, Sensitive, Luminary, Tough, and Daredevil from Anachronistic Adventures.

Psionic Classes: Aegis, Cryptic, Dread, Marksman, Psion, Psychic Warrior, Soulknife, Tactician, Vitalist, and Wilder from Ultimate Psionics.

Technomancy Classes: Cyborg from Rite Publishing, Machinesmith and Fleshwraith from LPJ Games, Technician from Radiance House, Tinker and Gadgeteer from Interjection Games.

Others: The Host from LJP Games, Moonchild, Starseed, and Untouchable from Zombie Sky Press, Time Warden and Time Thief from Rogue Genius Games.

See the blog post for what I cut out and why.

I think I covered most scifi character concepts that I'd reasonably allow given the setting but with 29 classes I felt the need to exclude Paizo's classes. I just don't need them in context.

I'm thinking of taking a look at the tech classes more closely and next to each other because there are a lot of them and they constantly threaten to step on each other's toes. The ones on my list are are ones I feel have some kind of mastery over a niche that the others don't have but I could streamline things.

My personal favorite is Dragonstar, but I have a sentimental soft spot for Spelljammer.
