I stand corrected. Here sits the worst thing in the infinite universes. :)

Has anyone managed to actually download it yet? I've been trying since 11 EST (now almost 2) every time I click the link after personalization it bounces me back to the page I was already one, the blog home page, and an eternally loading blank page.

EDIT: Apparently asking was the trick.

Yeah, can't get past the personalization bottle neck.

You gotta try in the middle of the night, that's the best way to ensure a smoother experience.

Also, no success for me... yet. :-)

For those of you who have managed to download it, what are the available races?

Folks at Paizo; given the current problems with downloads AND the fact that this is a free product... maybe it would make sense to relax some of the usual restrictions and allow the most relevant sections of this player's guide to be posted here? Maybe just temporarily and then deleted once the traffic surge is over?

Not only would this allow people to get the content of the guide more easily... it would also reduce the number of people hitting the download server.

Not trying to 'encourage piracy'. Just suggesting that this is a special case which might validate re-examining the usual rules. All of the products with a price tag attached should of course remain protected, but this one might benefit from different treatment for the next few days.

I had problems downloading in Firefox but it downloaded immediately in Chrome. Maybe try different browsers - worked for me!

All basic races plus tiefling. One of the iconics is a dhampir, other is a duergar.

My first impression is that this PG is not as good as the Hell's Rebels one.

I really liked the way they separed traits from "Reasons to be at the right place at the time the adventure begins" on Hell's Rebels. Campaign traits should give you a role to play on the campaign, not just a reason to gather with the other characters. The Curse of the Crimson Thrones tratis are just it, reasons to be at the right place but without a deep connection to the campaign.

The traits from Hell's Rebels give you a role to play, a secret to revel, a person to find. A more deep conection with the campaign. But how to gather the players? Well, The Hell's Rebels Player's Guide have the "Reasons to Protest" section and that work really well.

The Hell's Vengeance trait are a mix of campaing role and character themes, but they don't explain why the character are together.

Spoiler:

The Adventure assumes that characters where hired by a local trouble-maker from Longacre.

This local trouble-maker is barely cited on the Guide, and the traits don't give a hint on why the player's were hired.

Strangely, I had the opposite result. I've been using chrome to attempt it, just go through via Firefox.

Got the PG this morning and it was everything I was hoping for! Thanks to Adam and Rob for making it awesome! Told my players to go get it, finalize their characters this weekend, then next Thursday (3/3/16) we're going to do some evil.

I finally get to play my Callistrian antipaladin character. I'm happy.

Alright, got it downloaded now. Quick summary for those still waiting:

Spoiler:
Be reasonably evil - don't attack everything on sight but save it for the right situations. And be willing to work for Thrune. This is stated multiple times over the guide. Neutral characters are appearantly not recommended.
As a group, agree on how explicit evil gets, depending on individual comfort zones.
Don't backstab your fellow players, just mess a bit with them.

Queen sends you to protect Longacre against the Glorious Reclamation - prove yourself.
Recommended classes, archetypes, prestige classes and class choices (bloodlines etc.) - the lists are long and seem well-thought.
Worship any evil or neutral deity you like - good ones are technically allowed but don't really fit.
Some hints how to fight celestials amd to heal.

Campaign traits:
* Amoral Mercenary: must be NE, bonus on Sense Motive, be effectively neutral for one alignment effect (e.g. smite good) per day
* Apprentice Devilbinder: summoned fiends stay longer, bonuses when negotiating with them
* Asmodean Acolyte: bonuses on Diplomacy, Knowledge (planes) and Knowledge (religion), learn Infernal (good for not so smart summoning casters...)
* Chelish Noble: bonus on Knowledge (nobility), better dealing with nobles, more start equipment
* Erratic Malefactor: must be CE, bonus on initiative, reroll once per day if ally is nearby
* Ex-Iomedaean: +1 AB & damage / +1 DC against some goody-goodies
* Good Slip: must be halfling, bonus on Bluff, reroll Will save 1/day when human ally is nearby
* Hellknight Aspirant: bonus on Knowledge (planes), +1 CMD to keep chosen weapon (weapon is associated with Hellknight order)
* Local Tough: bonuses on Intimidate and flanking
* Scion of the Nine Circles: bonus on Knowledge (planes), know Infernal, resistance against goody-goodies messing with your brain
* Thrune Informant: bonuses on Diplomacy, Disguise and Knowledge (local)

Quick introduction into Cheliax, Thrune and Abrogail II.

Six iconic evil characters, each half a page:
* Emil, male tiefling rogue
* Lazzero, male human cleric of Asmodeus
* Linxia, female human fighter
* Nyctessa, female dhampir necromancer (wohow)
* Urgraz, male duergar antipaladin
* Zelhara, female human inquisitor of Zon-Kuthon (could be mistaken for half-kyton)

The layout is impressive, the images are amazing and there is some evil content for everyone who is interested. It's not my taste (I prefer demons over other fiends any day), but it's a good player guide.

Maybe. Not much time. Just take the first two pages from The Hellfire Campact and put it on the PG.

Hell's Rebles player's guide is 34 page-long, and it presents the rebelion rules. Hell's Vengeance PG is only 20 pages and it doesn't present any new rule.

Are there any new mini games in this As?

Tammy wants to play Pin the Murder On The Blacksmith.

It would be nice to actually be able to download and read this. That would be a nice thing to be able to do.

I've been trying to download this thing since yesterday, and still no luck. I'm getting really tired of hearing "soon!" from the support staff, with no results.

Click to personalize, wait 15-30 minutes, click again, should download.

I dunno then, worked for me.

On both computer and phone.

The download just times out and says it can't connect.

You may have to just keep at it. I spent an hour last night personalizing and then refreshing after it kept kicking me back to the front page, but eventually I got through and was able to get it.

Sounds like it might be this separate issue from the personalization bottleneck. If so, Paizo IT is on it and expects it to be fixed soon.

Scarab Sages

I find it a bit funny how the very first iconic antipaladin is a duergar. Duergar get -4 to Charisma! At least Urgraz is one of the most charismatic duergar out there: 11 Charisma.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Nyctessa and Tammy are gonna totally get along, Urgraz can be the stern father figure that eventually dies so we may live (psst, don't tell him, it'll be funnier that way).

It took my 3 hours of trying to get, and got it around 2 am est if that helps anyone.

The tips for evil and such were really nice. The traits were kind of disappointing to be honest. They're good, but half of them don't feel connected to the campaign. And gives little reason for a noble to be taking part in Cimri's raid at the start of the campaign despite providing a trait for being a noble. Also little mention of Cimri or the raid. Not the end of the world, many of them do slot in easily to the set up. Otherwise I think it's very good and helpful.

Finally got mine.....all in all I'm pleased. Good advice on running an "evil" game....repeated frequently for those who are a bit slow....better (or maybe more relevant) AP traits....and a snap shot of the new iconics.
All in all...one of the best PG's I have seen.

I've already been kicking around a fix for getting less fiscally-motivated characters involved in Cimri's plan....over in the spoiler-filled GM thread.

All I know is I like the iconics for this.

And I have idears.

So far, my only complain is how little info we get about Longacre... no city map, no "it is located there" (on regional/country map), no...

Nutcase,

I'm assuming that's what the first adventure, The Hellfire Compact, has.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

I know, but usually Player's Guides give some info to help with backgrounds/backstories and the like.

Nutcase,

Maybe they decided on the heels of making people wait for it, to not worry about informing people about Longacre.

The tyrant archetype for anti paladin is referenced more than once in the player's guide from ultimate intrigue. Am I nuts or has that not been released yet?

Pages 62-67 of The Hellfire Compact has that info.

Yes but the Hellfire Compact is not for the players.

By comparison, Mummy's Mask Player Guide had info on Wati, even though Half-Dead City had the gazetteer. Players do need some info to build their backgrounds, and giving them the gazetteer can involve spoilers. If they read the Longacre gazetteer in Hellfire Compact, they'll get to know things that they necessarily shouldn't.

That's what I meant, Mummy's Mask Player Guide had info on Wati, Iron Gods's had info on Torch, Giantslayer's had info on Truneau, Hell's Rebels' had info on Kintargo...

Yeah, the book will be out before the AP is done being released, so it'll be available to players whose GMs don't start before having the whole AP in hand.

I finally got it by lunchtime Friday, after trying it several times that whole morning.

I was also a bit disappointed that Cimri has very little info for the players. I am not sure how much we are to tell the players about her. I guess for my group, I'll just have to wing it based on their backgrounds.

And yeah, not a lot of info about the town and area for the players, so I'll fill them in on that as well.

Anyway, for positives: I think I have a crush on that Dhampir Necro! I'm hoping we get a full write up on her in the Blog as well as in one of the later volumes of the AP.
