HYDRA had little reason to direct their Helicarriers to shoot a surgeon- remember, that list the guy talked about consisted of actual threats, not persons of interest. Strange was enough of a git that he wouldn't have posed a problem for them, after all.

I think the "Hammer Hypothesis" fits far better than War Machine- especially since Rhodey's armor was hardly experimental by the time he got hurt, whereas the spinal trauma we see in the brief clip in Iron Man 2 clearly was due to Hammer's inability to get his armor working.

Unless, of course, it wasn't War Machine, but Justin Hammer's botched efforts from Iron Man 2...

I've seen hints in various articles that this might be exactly what it was. Along with a declaration from the director apparently denying the link to Rhodey.

Then again, when it comes to Zola's Algorithm from Winter Soldier, they did state it would eliminate anyone who might pose a threat to Hydra "now, or in the future". So he didn't necessarily already have to be studying magic. Something or things in his life made the algorithm decide he was dangerous.

Probably his love of driving fast cars maybe?

Or the fact that he was a highly intelligent, wealthy, respected, and probably globally influential doctor.

... who was selfish and myopic to the extreme. You cannot tell me that pre-accident Strange would have been hard to manipulate.

My brother was telling me earlier that, with the release of Doctor Strange (and now Moana), Disney has set a new record for yearly domestic box office totals, at around $2.49 billion, topping the previous $2.45 billion set by Universal.

This with Moana really just starting its run and Rogue One having yet to be released. Either way, it's already a banner year for the House of Mouse.

Based on Box office Mojo, Disney is holding the 1-4th all of which are sitting at 990M+ worldwide with 8 other films on their docket...yeah they've had a good run this year.

Yeah, I think the Marvel purchase has paid for itself already. The Star Wars purchase will eventually.

I agree with A-Zombie, once Rogue One and Star War VIII come out, the Mouse will firmly be in the black for at least 2025. Or until something else happens.

Sovereign Court

I gots to find a way to access some of that sweet Mouse cash...

Purple,

You and me both. I have a paizo addiction to feed.

...but jokes aside... these numbers are huge. Surely the movie industry can now accommodate and occasionally use additional geeks detail-oriented canonist / script workers / idea-slingers! ;)

It is obvious that further draconian laws are needed to prevent piracy which is killing the movie industry.

*agrees with Sissyl about not pirating movies*

Sovereign Court

Piracy is killing the movie industry? Are you kidding me?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, the movie industry thinks so, judging by the lobbying dollars they have spent on IPRED, ACTA and later such initiatives.

I've often wondered if online pirates dress like pirates. Or maybe have pet parrots who ride around on their shoulders.

I probably shouldn't be telling you this, but yes. Yes we do.

Dammit Captain! You're giving away our trade secrets! :p ;)

Kahnya,

We only use those when we have no way to access Fox movies that are about Mutants. And you know, FF4.

This might just be the best thing I've ever read at 8 AM...

I have come to the conclusion that the folks making the movie have not read anything of Dr. Strange other than Marvel teamups, when they say.

"We want to move away from verbal spells".

Even if the alt-right, or lets call them by their proper names, Neo-Nazi Fascists decide to boycott this one the way they did the last one.

Actually our goosestepping friends are divided. Some of them want to keep up the boycott they started for Star Wars daring to have a black hero, others want Palapatine to replace Adolf Hitler as their new poster boy for white supremacy.. to get with the times I guess.

If it turns into a Star Wars/alt-right culture war, all I can say is "Bring it on."

They can't begin to compete.

I'm sincerely curious how many of these assclowns actually followed through on their boycott and didn't secretly watch the film. Perhaps I have too faith in humanity, but just can't imagine that many people didn't watch Force Awakens just because of Finn or Rey.

I mean, if I had to choose between my love of socialism and Star Wars I can tell you right now I'd abandon former in a second.

Saw it in 3D, which I normally despise, but I was willing to give it a shot, and whoa, I'm pretty sure that was an experience that would only have been enhanced by medical marijuana... Cool stuff. Like that first Star Trek movie, which I alone on planet earth enjoyed, or the one where William Hurt eats shrooms and devolves into an amoeba (or whatever, I was not terribly clear on that movie...).

Just a warning: don't smoke weed and watch 3D movies. It's terribly straining on your eyes. Let's just say a friend told me that.

All I know is I didn't get to see this in theaters since my friends are all too damn busy.

See it without them the lone wolf movie trip is fun.

Vid,

It can be but unfortunately my birthday is passed. So I guess I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

Vid,

Not your fault. It's just the way it is. Thank you though.

Not all of them are staying away from Star Wars. Like I said, a significant contingent are looking to adopt Palpatine as a modernised replacement for Hitler.

I'm still something of a 12th level paladin of Torm. Some times.

Silver Crusade

Saw Dr Strange. Some random thoughts.

1. Missed the verbal spells. Some Crimson Bands of Cyttorak would have been appreciated.

2. The car accident was fantastic.

3. I missed the old Asian Ancient one.

4. Chiwetel Ejiofor was great as Mordo.

5. The reviews were right, it's worth watching in 3D.

6. Fantastic special effects.

You like to sacrifice hundreds of worshippers during a mass ritual? :P

No! That's my death priest of Orcus Purple. :p

Sovereign Court

"Torm gained considerable attention and praise during the Godswar when his faithful helped keep one of the missing Tablets of Fate safe, and his own avatar battled and completely destroyed the avatar of Bane outside Tantras on Eleasis 13, seemingly killing the god who had already been weakened by Mystra and her servant Elminster.[citation needed]
Torm knew he did not have enough power to do this, so he chose to absorb the souls of his worshipers in Tantras, knowing that they would be instantly killed. The transferring of souls was done voluntarily and took thousands of lives, but Torm chose to spare children aged 14 and below. These individuals became known as the Martyr's Progeny.[5]"

Perhaps Torm and Orcus are one and the same? hmmm? ;)

No. I'm pretty sure they are different. Also note the word VOLUNTARY. Not "mass executions"

IIRC, what Bane did to become so big was simply taking the souls of a lot of Bhaal-worshippers, with Bhaal's permission. Assassins were not a part of 2nd edition AD&D because Satan, so they had to be extracted from the setting somehow. Leading to someone at TSR calling Salvatore and saying: "Oh, by the way, Artemis Entreri died."
"No, he didn't."
"All assassins were absorbed by Bane."
"He's not an assassin. He's a fighter who kills people for money."

Sovereign Court

I wonder if that excuse would stand in court! Lol
