Faction Storylines

Pathfinder Society

Grand Lodge 5/5

Looking at the thread Evergreen Desert, I decided to start a new thread to talk about the faction storylines and where they might be headed. If you want to check out the original thread it is here:

Scarab Sages has a nice Epic storyline. Nothing else to really say here.

Liberties' Edge has a kind of epic line going, but I feel its storyline is a bit polarizing when it comes to setting a table. With such a strong anti-slavery theme, as well as the society being set in an area where slavery is legal and there being viable methods to have slaves, that could cause some unwelcome friction at play tables; this is something I am sure Paizo is considering when deciding how such a storyline would work. I am confident that they will find an appropriate direction for the faction to head.

Exchange really does need some love as far as storylines go to set themselves apart. As it stands I really question the background reasoning for their continued association with the Society. The Idea of a economic war sandbox/roleplay scenario to hurt the Aspis is super in my opinion.

Dark Archive is in a similar state sadly. This faction seems like a natural fit to the Society along with the Scarab Sages. The Sages are about lore, and the Archive is about the artifacts. But without a story (not a one off go get this thing quest) they are just kind of moldering.

Sovereign Court... I want to like the Sovereign Court. I have several characters in the Sovereign Court, but most of the time I forget they even exist.

Give something to each of the other factions too...

I agree what they did to dark archive is horrible. I find that too many complain about factions that leaned towards evil so they trimmed those edges.

I really hated that. I used to love the message zarta sent her agent. I felt they were very well done and added a great theme to cheliax. They were devil worshiping agents. That is awesome.

Sczarni was an excellent edition to the game, and they completely removed them to clean up the game. The exchange was meant to take them in. Not assimilate them to what they were. Qadira was pretty boring to begin with and had almost no story the whole game.

I feel like to me a few people complained loudly and they changed the game for the worse to make a few people happy.

Factions are seem like a part of the game that they want removed.

Scarab Sages

I'd like more stories with decisions that impact the factions direction. I know some scenarios had that, but I'm not sure if it resulted in anything. All I know is my Sczarni "ronin" is not happy with the Exchange, but he'll stick with it.

Some impact of my actions on the faction storyline would be nice.

a faction story line would be nice period. so many unanswered questions are left from the exchange's emergence and since its arrival it still has not been defined by anything other than a faction card which has left score of new players calling it the "day job faction".

the other factions such as silver crusade, liberties edge, grand lodge and dark archive have been essentially defined by the actions and story that has driven them the past 6 seasons. The scarab sages have had an extended story as well as a loving boon/scenario treatment. This makes the exchange in my eyes look like the black sheep of the PFS factions.

I find this sad as the two factions that combined were upon some of my favorite factions and I had high hopes for both.

countchocula has it.

Sovereign court has a flavor in the 'illuminati, making a new nobility' theme. Given the (glacial!) movement in Taldor hinted at in *redacted* about the succession, there's a WONDERFUL opportunity to give SC a storyline of epic (if not Mythic) proportions.

The Exchange should be front and center in Season 7. I mean the Aspis vs Exchange is basically "It belongs in a museum!" boiled down. Economic warfare, sabotage, cornering markets etc. "Let the Edgers and Crusaders smite the evil slavers in the consortium. We'll make a killing buying up their interests at fire sale prices, and recovering trinkets and [strike]selling[/strike] returning them to noble families for the Court and increasing the prestige of the Lodge!"

Also the *hows* of economic warfare would help steer the faction. Do we fght with paperwork and legal maneuvering in the Quadera way? Or do we take a more "Family oriented approach." Heck a scenario set in Ustalav where it's economic influcence vs Sczarni werewolves would be a good scenario and maybe follow up on Midnight Mauler
