Should I VMC Sorcerer with either Nature or Lore Oracle?

Advice

My GM may be amenable to allowing me to take either Sidestep Secret or Nature's Whispers as one of my revelations? Is that work trading off the feats?

Starsoul bloodline, with noble scion of war. CHA: 20, probably 22 soon. DEX: 10 Feats: Noble Scion of War, Toughness, and CWI unless I VMC.

The advantages of the VMC is great defensively, but I wonder if I might be better with metamagic, spell focus (conj), augment summoms, etc.

I can't say I recommend Starsoul bloodline over metamagic. VMC is cool and all, but the main difference between VMC and Eldritch Heritage is that VMC gives you Eschew Materials and significantly delays when you get your later bloodline powers, while Eldritch Heritage requires Skill Focus and has a reduced effective caster level for most of its lifespan. Either way, questionable choices for a questionable bloodline.

I misexpressed this I think, to be clear the character is the sorcerer. The title should have read should I VMC Oracle for either Sidestep Secret or Nature's Lore or save my feats for sorcerer uses.

As a sorcerer VMC-ing into oracle, yes, take the VMC option. It'll take a lot of feat slots, but good revelations are worth a lot more than feats. With a CHA 22 as AC, you'll more than be able to make up for your poor reflex save and AC. Make sure you have a good second and third option for revelations, though. Quality varies a lot. Offensively, yeah, you'll suffer a bit, but you get a few feat slots from Sorcerer. See if you can't pick up Quicken metamagic in those, or retrain your feats so you can pick up Toughness in your Sorcerer slot and a metamagic feat in place of the retrained feat.

Yep, that is my basic plan. I'd like to get some spell focuses in there and augment summons, but this gives me a lot of versatility. It won't be a powerful on saves, but I'll still pump cha and have very respectable saves. I'd certainly be interested in other thoughts, but this sounds like a solid plan.

Neither Sidestep Secret nor Nature's Whispers is listed as a valid option for a revelation available to a VMC Oracle.

Depends on how high you go.
Oracle VMC only really takes off around 11+ once the Revelations begin to scale (though you mentioned that your DM might let you take Sidestep Secret or Nature's Lore which don't care for levels).

The other problem is that Spell Perfection is blocked off until 17, and frankly Spell Perfection and Spontaneous Metamagic is generally much better than the VMC suite (though again if for some reason your DM lets you use SSS or NL; go right ahead).

Honestly though, if you want AC mainly, you're better off relying on better positioning, invisibility, burrowing, flight, displacement, mirror image or something else. The other problem I see is that the fixed feat slots suck. Having to delay Craft Wondrous Item until 5 (or worse, 9) is crippling and frankly not really worth it.

I don't see why your GM would need to be amenable to allowing it if it wasn't normally off-limits.
