Scion Sorrows

Advice

So once again I am incredibly bored and have decided to create yet another character to add to my already expansive hoard, this time it's someone who becomes a Noble Scion. Just one itsy, bitsy problem with that, I'm not really familiar with the various kingdoms and countries in Galorion. So what I need help with is figuring out from what country my young Human Archaeologist (I'm thinking of starting him as an Archaeologist Bard for skills, face value, and RP) hails from. So here's a little bit of backstory for you all:

The fifth son and ninth child (his parents are well known for their ... virility) of a prestigious noble house, his family is known throughout the kingdom/country for their ardent dedication to preserving knowledge. This is partially due to them being the overseers of the kingdom/country's most important center of knowledge and records (some sort of royal archive, really). As the youngest of nine, however, there wasn't much room for advancement and as such he was mostly left to his own devices. As such he threw himself into his studies and eventually joined a society of like-minded individuals dedicated to unearthing lost knowledge.

That's what I got so far. So, anyone know where this guy could or should hail from?

Grand Lodge

Taldor is always appropriate for nobles without money. It is the seat of culture (in their eyes) and the common tongue of the Inner Sea is Taldan.

Galt is like France after the revolution, so that might be fun... And you can be a noble in exile. Though if you're from there, the royal archive was burnt. That would give plenty of motivation to go seeking knowledge elsewhere.

You could be from Absalom. Lots of noble families (including the notorious Blakros clan) are interested in the pursuit of Knowledge.

Or... you can go with the diabolical houses of Cheliax. There are lots of learned nobles in Cheliax who love to support the arts (even under contract with Devils). The Kintargo Opera House is located in Cheliax, as well as other places of culture and learning.

Lots of possibilities. BTW, if this is for PFS, are you going for Sovereign Court?

Um, I don't know what Sovereign Court is but this certainly isn't for PFS. Like I said in my earlier post this is me creating a character because I'm bored and because I think it would be interesting to a play a noble whose not just a noble in name only.

Honestly, I'd consider Osirion.
It's got a very scholastic legacy behind it and, and a ton of purpose for preservation of knowledge (as well as archaeologists).

Hm, Egyptian. Hadn't really thought of him as looking like an Egyptian, however that wouldn't take a lot of re-imagining. The country certainly would fit his family's theme. Any other suggestions while I engross myself in the history and geography of Osirion?

Ustalav too. It has university of lepidstadt, Quartefaux archives, sincomakti school of sciences. The first two fit best within ustalav, with U of lepidstadt being founded near archeological sites to study them, and the archives is part academy, part royal archives.

At this point I'm seriously considering Absalom. What makes the Blakros so notorious? I must admit there is certain appeal to play as a young and unknown male member of the family that dislikes selling relics of the past to private collectors (perhaps he's a follower of Irori who emphasizes Irori's position as a god of History and Knowledge and dislikes knowledge being left by the wayside or kept away from the people, well the non-dangerous kind at least). Would there be an organization dedicated to relic hunting and preserving of knowledge in Absalom? I assume there would, considering the amount of people and nobles in the city (what else are you gong to do with the sixth and seventh sons of a nobleman's house?).

At this point I'm also tryin to figure out what kind of Bard he is (as in whether or not he's a Strength-based character or finesse based). I'm thinking Finesse based so I can get some extra AC on top of my armor and shield, since I will be gaining a lot of damage from my Archaeologist's Luck ability (enhanced with Fate's Favored) and Arcane Strike.

Honestly I've only got five sessions of Pathfinder under my belt so I'm not particularly familiar with the setting or most organizations in Galorion (one of the campaigns I'm in is a homebrew setting). Most of what I know is from me researching places for my character. It would certainly make sense that the PFS would be stationed or atleast have a place there.

Absalom is home to the Grand Lodge, its literally the HEART of the pathfinder society, there are also lots of libraries and vaults of magic items under their care there as well

Doesn't surprise me, what with what I learned about Absalom while creating a Fetchling that hailed from Shadow Absalom. Now that I've been really reading up on Absalom it seems like it could be a perfect fit for my character. Now I just have to work out my stats and feat progression. Still not sure whether I should go the finesse route or due a more strength heavy approach to things.

So after a couple of days of work and whatnot I'm still not sure exactly what my character should focus on, go finesse and make extra use of the high dex (for things like Disable Device) or to go a more strength focused route and just clobber people. Anyone have any suggestions?
