Okay...so started the adventure and it ended pretty quickly.

Group Casting was as follows

1- Tengu CE Cleric of the mother of monsters. Wanted to rebel against the system that was causing her to suddenly keep more silent than normal

2- Human CG Magus, Worshiping the god of Freedom and Booze (with a desire to become the first Paladin of said god)

3- Stryx LN Evocationist, who believes she is the sister of a human noble and wants to help him by joining those that'll fight against the system that took him away and had taught her such useful magic. (interesting back story and found instantly enjoyable for a point of view and for mixed amusement when introduced to other Stryx and find out her real origin)

4- Halfling CG Rogue, Was set up to be the Ears of the group and wanted to be able to set up deals for the group. No real backstory forth coming but the player said he wanted to be mysterious, but since the character was pretty straight forward no real issues.

So grand new law from the Lord Mayor dealing with the foreign captains and their ships crew. group stole money, gossiped and remained hidden waiting for a chance to fight back in their own ways. But everyone is in the crowd. The Tengu disguised in the center of the crowd for the best 'vantage point' Speech given, Crowd goes crazy with city guard attacking.

Roll for Initiative.

Tengu get's the initiative on everyone involved. When asked what they do when the crowd turns violent with people attacking. They use, Channel Negative Energy as the opening offensive. Not a back tactic, and even after explaining the burst effect, they understood the issues for all.

Including the other players. NPC commoners fail the will save, and the cleric rolls max damage. The 30 burst of Negative energy killed the commoners and harmed the city guard.

Other PC's also failed the will save (except the Evocation Wizard Stryx)

It then proceeded into a TPW with them all attacking the Tengu who barely survived long enough to perform the Negative energy channel again (but then died due to bleed damage)

Game session lasted about 30 Minutes (mostly due to arguing about why a cleric didn't take Selective channel instead of Toughness)

So anyone else have some interesting start ending to this campaign set so far?

O_o didn't even get to use the modifications I made to the adventure before it was ended so quickly.
, hope others also get a good laugh out of this, I know I did.

And that's one reason I don't allow evil characters or evil-adjacent divine characters worshipping evil deities.

Who the hell makes an evil character for a campaign that specifically calls for good, and then uses his nuclear class option the first chance he gets.

An a$~$#%~ that's who.

Also I've noticed a trend where GMs are being too quiet or hands off during character creation, obviously I don't think they should be The Decider, but a little guidance in regards to alignment and what not goes a long way.

A few years ago I started a new Skull and Shackles campaign, first thing the e-mail said in all caps NO PALADINS, 3 of the 5 showed up with Paladins, so I made them make new characters, which is what you should've done when they showed you their Chaotic Evil character.

this is a thing of beauty, you should have a second "game", explaining about how the city is falling around their corpses

uh, yeah. That's like playing Superman in Necessary Evil...

I want to know what kind of build lets a level one cleric do 30 damage on a channel.

Still most commoners don't react well to waves of necrotic energy, and selective channeling would only have allowed a handful of folks out of the burst, so really that wouldn't have saved the day.

I think this is a preview for a lot of threads in Hell's Vengeance, where people use evil characters as an excuse to massacre and mutilate their way through the AP, even though the nation is very much Lawful and Evil, not just Evil.

I think he means 30' of burst, not 30 damage of burst.

Also, wow. Just.. just wow.

Why not just start over? Also, why allow that? As a player, I would find dying to another player making counterproductive decisions the opposite of fun. Why does he hate fun?

Oh I plan too, and I've played evil characters with the intent of them having redeemable traits not just "I feel threatened, nuke away!"

I had one evil character that joined the group because the villains where laying waste to his village and wanted to teach these evil Orcs and their Hill Giant leader a lesson for it.

(giant Slayer Campaign)

eyuup. I shoulda, but then again I've seen people play evil characters before quite productively. But I should have waited till after I got to know his gaming style before allowing it. Seems they where very much shoot first ask questions later with every character.

Ouch. Yes, Michael, I got quite the laugh. I have seen similar. :)

Sounds like my middle school games where the PCs would polymorph each others' familiars into fish so they'd suffocate.

I threw an orc baby into green slime once.

One of the first times I GMed in undergrad the party cooked the druid's animal companions (he had multiple as it was 3.0). It was cause he had to leave early and they figured it was a one off character. They tried to bs that the animals 'fell in the fire'. In reality it was his first ever PC and he'd spent hours on it. That was over a decade ago and I still feel bad about not trying to reign in the group.

As for OP's game...wow. Just wow.

Liberty's Edge

Alrighty!

Seems we'll be trying this again. (Minus the evil cleric as, well he didn't work out due to killing more PC's in Reign of winter with a Tree feather Token and...nuff likely said)

SO!

We have one PC wanting to try her Stryx raised by humans (even has the adopted Trait with human) again.
A Human Magus that wants to be a Paladin of Cayden Cailean
A Halfling Rogue
Tiefling Brawler (that makes all gloves & gauntlets it seems Spiked)

Still have no healer.

SO!

:3 any good suggestions for an Indoor audience with new laws? I figure I'll partially tie in the old adventure with an 'attack on his Royal mayor' and thus the new law got delayed until a suitable place to reveal came available.

Just start over fresh, it's not like they got very far:-D

The Magus needs to look into the Chevalier prestige class, that suits the goal perfectly.

The evil cleric's player bowed out/was booted, or is playing the tiefling brawler?

Booted, he started showing up to peoples houses uninvited and in some cases letting himself in without knocking. (the last one, was to me and he was certainly booted out for that)

Liberty's Edge

So Hell's Rebel advice the Stryx player would like to be adopted by one of the noble families. (leaning towards the Campaign trait) originally I was going to make up a royal house for her to be from, but if the original writer is about for the AP, any suggestions for the best fit there, or should I go with an original NPC family?
