I really love that Makara, Toyol, Yacumama, Duppy, Lightning Bird, Ahuizotl, Nyami Nyami, Surale, Psoglav, Airavata, Wandjina, Madremonte and especially the El Cuero model is AWESOME! I wish the Pathfinder cuero would have been that way, though it is cool as it is in pathfinder this model rocks the boat.

I would love to see classic monsters grouped together with class levels, maybe a thorp or nest of creatures with younglings, guards, pets, leader, etc. Something we could drop into any adventure ad-hoc. "And here's a goblin village with guards, shaman, mamas+children, super guards, and leader."
So...Monster Codex? (Also on the Pathfinder Reference Document)

You are in the wrong topic. Not gonna happen in normal bestiaries. The dont want to make the same mistake as d&d

Don't like the design of Kraken.
I would have switched the Kraken model with the Leviathan Model, but that is just me.
I would have added Yara-Ma-Yha-Who, Kumiho, Akhlut, Nuckelavee and Jinmenju or Jubokko and cut that white lady with animals away.
I would have used Lusca instead of Kraken, and Bakekujira instead of Leviathan, I would have used Manticore and Chimera I would have replaced with something less known from Myth, also added Pyrausta.
I would have used more beasts and less humanoids. Some Golem-like monster would have been fun, such as Wulgaru.

Ok, can we FINALLY get the REAL Tarasque, even if it needs to be renamed?
Look, if they are aiming to add real-world mythological creatures, might as well add this one.

Does the list have any "to be remade/revamped wishlist" mentions?

Well the D&D/Pathfinder versions of goblins and kobolds are too popular but I wouldn't mind if they gave us the mythical fey versions.
I miss the green skinned pig men versions of Orcs and would also like fey versions of those. Maybe they could call them "Orks";)
I agree I would like to see stats for Medusa's sisters.
I don't care much for Pathfinder's version of the Yuki-onna, Argus, Veela, and Fomorian.
Nightterror |
I don't like pathfinders version of the Salamander, that is a true abomination. They should create a real mythology version of the Salamander, or at least some giant version of that fire salamander.
While the Kobold is a very different creature, I don't mind the pathfinder/D&D version as the Pech is pretty much a good replacement, I rather see a Karzelek or Gem-based Kobold.
Barghests are also very wrong from their true myth, but Shadow Mastiff make up for it.
Makara is another one I now dislike because I like another version more.
I don't mind the Gorgon because Medusa is right there.

Dragon78 wrote:Name some examples of the ones you think "isn't the real..."Aside from the Gorgon, I have none that come to mind, but I am sure someone can provide you with an hundred or two.
Someone mentioned a dire Terask they wanted. A stronger spawn of Rovagug. They should start with a nastier base creature. Scorpion, Wolf, Honey Badger, Gator, T-Rex, Ect.
The Chimera, by greek myths had a tale of a snake's upper half, the head of a dragon, and the body of a lion, in some versions.
There needs to be a Deux Ex Machina Inevitable who might have killed Aroden or something. A guardian of fate and destiny with near ultimate power. I have to look at the Primal Inevitable to see if that is it. It might be with some tinkering.

Not yet, but I could add it as a new tab and start collecting please redo from this post onwards- but if they are from a non Pathfinder product, I will need that so that we can log potential copyright issues on those requests.

Hey all, just popping in to let you know there will no sheet updates for the next 10-12 days as I am on holiday in Seattle, attending Paizocon and spending a few non con days catching some sights.

How many creatures do we have based on Amerindian and Euro-American folk tale mythology? I'd like to see some creatures based on existing legends, like the chupacabra, Mothman and sasquatch we've already got.
This is sort of what I'm talking about. Snipes, the Hidebehind, hell, even Jackelopes could be cool. Joint snakes, a snake that can break itself apart and put itself back together, strike me as being particularly suited to Pathfinderization.
Also, you mention "huge lists"—would it help or be part of the problem if every few pages someone gathered all the previously-mentioned creatures together into one big list post?
There is the Amphisbaena, and whilst being only CR4 sort of describes what you're looking for in the snake that splits apart.

I'd love to see more behemoths. The three more that are mentioned in Bestiary seem incredibly cool and are as follows,
sirocco behemoths that flay with air and fire, behemoths of the lightless depths of the oceans, and dread holocaust behemoths forged of lightning and fire.
The sirocco behemoth would need to have sirocco as a spell like ability.

What I want- A Protean less concerned with the stuff happening in the maelstrom, and more likely to be dealt with in a social context as ally or enemy, opposing constructs of law and making things more like them. Without, like, possessing the PCs and riding them around or something. They're one of the hardest planar exemplars to interact with, despite them being beings you definitely can meet in context other than 'enemy.'
Or, heck, a new CN outsider in a similar role- *from* the Maelstrom but with different motives. We've got inevitable, axiomatics, and formians, we have Daemons and Div, we can have another CN race. Hm, that'd be even better...
More weird-cool PC option races. Ghorans, Androids, Vishkanya, Kitsune, Nagaji, Deep One Hybrids, Merfolk, etc.. Animal types are fine as long as they're not similar to existing ones (we don't need another monkey-person, and it seems like there's enough reptilian types though I could be wrong there, but, say, a racoon person or such would be fine).
Oh yea, and there's the mythical Bonnacon!
... ok, maybe not, that one's a bit gross ^^
Davia D |
Formians are not outsiders in pathfinder.
I am just happy seeing any new races especially if they fill a niche or concept that I want.
True, but I'd be happy with a plane-dwelling CN race like Formians even if they aren't Outsiders.
And aside from that- LN has two alignment races (Axiomites and Inevitables- if, granted, Axiomites only have the one type), LE has two (Kytons and Devils- granted Kytons live elsewhere), NE has two (Divs and Daemon), CE has three (Demodand, Demon, Qlippoth), good has at least 1 1/3rd (one each for each alignment, plus sharing Angels). CN's got the least.

Maybe CN creatures made with parts that don't belong together, like Discord. Maybe pigs with wings.
Wonderland or toon like creatures which include animals that have clothes, walk upright, ect.
Humans with exaggerated features including an oversized head, eyes, ears, ect.
CN Outsiders regenerate to a place in limbo, like a toon recovers from anything.
There can even be animal/object hybrids like the tooly birds and rocking horse flies.

I really hope starfinder keeps away from anything pathfinder and gets its own bestiary that doesnt disable a normal bestiary at all
The monsters are suppose to be compatible with both, and Starfinder for the time being is going to be the only world neutral hardcover for the series.
So expect a bestiary six to have a lot of generic robots and alien type monsters. But It will also almost certainly continue to have more normal fantasy creatures and stuff from mythology, since it won't be a specific Starfinder bestiary, and they will want sales to non SF folks.
Odraude |
Yeah it would be weird if they were completely separate. Though I could see a Campaign Setting book that details more Golarion system specific creatures alongside the Bestiary 6.
I'd love to see some of the famous aliens from folklore and the movies. The Flatwoods Monster in the bestiary would be pretty awesome. Little green men would also be really cool, maybe called something else. We already have greys. I'd love to see the tripod creatures from War of the Worlds (the newer movie). They looks really awesome and having their tripods stated would be cool. I remember just ad hocing stats for them when I did a one shot that was an alien invasion of Faerun, but I forgot what they were.
In terms of technology, while we have robots, I'd like to see more on digital life. People who have uploaded their consciousness or advanced AIs. I've always liked transhumanism so I'd love to see a little Eclipse Phase in the game.
MMCJawa |
Even though they are compatible, I'd still suspect separate bestiaries on the angle that SF is likely to be a lot more gun oriented, and so that SF people won't have to buy a book full of critters that don't fit in SF.
Except they have already stated that for now, Starfinder will have only one hardcover in the RPG line, and won't get it's own line of books
Other than constructs like robots (which are in bestiary 5 already) most alien monsters don't use guns (think things like xenomorphs or The Thing), or if they do they would be items they would be equipped yet. Should be easy to swap out equipment if you wanted to use a sci fi monster in a fantasy game.
