A monk's chestboard.

Silver Crusade

I have an idea for a platform that in fluff, was made by a rather powerful Wizard that followed Irori. He made it to test, and train future monks at the monastery he lived at. Now, I am trying to figure out how to implement it as a functional magic item. Care to help me?

So far, here are the ideas I have so far.

  • The platform itself would be 50ft, by 50ft.
  • It would react depending on how each 5ft square was entered. Say, what would happen if one stealthed across versus using acrobatics, or just muscling through.
  • Would have various reactions based on the method of crossing. From maybe a dummy popping up from an adjacent square, to having a splash effect happen. Or even ejecting the target off the platform, to dropping them into a... Not too deep pit.
  • Might include pushing or pulling effects into other squares with other skills required to overcome.
  • And of course, the non lethal damage would have to be based on percentage, and not by level so that anyone, has a chance to not be K.O.ed when trying to cross it for the very first step. Unless it was a very unlucky percentage roll.

So what do you guys think? Care to help me figure out how to do this?

Have 4 separate charts. The side that the creature enters from determine on which chart you roll. Each time a creature enters a new square, roll randomly on the appropriate chart to determine the effect.
Here's 4 ideas for what you can base the charts off of: combat practice with dummies, maze of traps, stealth mission, or obstacle course.

Yes, that was what I was thinking. Though I haven't thought about 4 different charts. Though that would be more options I guess.

I was thinking that on a 1d100 Percent roll, and depending on what you rolled, you get the effect. Say...

Random: 1d100 ⇒ 100
Well, a roll like that could be quite dangerous.
So then the character would have, depending on what ever it may be, would have to try to overcome it somewhat first.
So.. Maybe a few squares next to her appeared a fearsome creature, of course still a dummy, and lunges at her. Maybe to swallow whole?
So the person crossing might have a few options to beat that encounter. Acrobatics? Jump onto the head before it can bite, which would be a high DC to beat. While jumping to the side would be a lower DC, but it might also set off another square too. Or might be able to use a different skill or ability entirely!

So having four different lists sounds like a good idea. I'll have to think on that.
