Achievement Unlocked! - How Many Do You Have?

Gamer Life General Discussion

3 people marked this as a favorite.

So.

Based on a recent post in which I recognized that I had all but one of the achievements in the 101 Achievement for Playing an RPG thread, I figured I should compile the things I've accomplished from that thread... and open up a place where others could, too.

The most recent post, as of this writing, so updates thereafter might see future posts from me!

Some are spoiler'd for space:

mechaPoet wrote:

Huzzah!

ShadowFighter88 wrote:

Scams:
"The rich and powerful take what they want." Lose something to someone who abused their position/wealth...

"We steal it back for you." ... and get it back.

"Can't cheat an honest man." Turn someone's own greed and desires against them.
"Well I had to indulge in a bit of Mickey-Waffle" Stall someone by talking a lot without actually saying much.
"How much you wanna bet I can't bite my own eye?" Use a glass eye to your advantage (not necessarily your own glass eye).
"The con is on." Bring someone down without having to fight (and make a nice pile of cash in the process).

Took me a while, but I've come up with all of those.

ShadowFighter88 wrote:

Yes.

Must You?: Play a bard and successfully seduce your way to bed with at least three different NPCs.

I Thought You Had It?: Misplace an artifact or other item that you were sent to retrieve.

Did We Forget Something?: Leave a plot-crucial NPC for dead.

<snip>

That Guy: Arrive to a session with a cheesed-out character.

Anybody Want a Peanut?: Roll a natural 20 on a Perform (oratory) check.

But It's What My Character Would Do!: Avoid having your alignment becoming changed with a well-thought-out argument.

<snip>

"Must You?" is a little questionable, because I've not actually done that as a bard...

Doing one better: as a GM, having a character die and get reincarnated so often, that you just give it to him as a constant effect whenever he dies, as you know the PCs will do exactly that thing. Also, it's funny. Also, have him reincarnate into the same six races over and over again in the same order, so that you eventually rule that he only reincarnates into those races.

Nice work. (Both playing and editing/formatting that list)

The three I listed were all things the party did in a single game. I have one player who just loves the Apocalypse Now?! one though, he does it nearly every chance he gets.

Wow dude. Just wow. Slow Clap.

What he said.

My tabletop RPG experience has actually been comparatively limited - bad luck and lack of friends/opportunities due largely to living in the wrong place. Pathfinder Society's been the most of what I've managed to do, aside from a few short/aborted/otherwise unsatisfactory attempts at people's home games. All told, let's see what I've managed (this including games other than D&D/Pathfinder):

Liranys wrote:

1. "He's dead, Jim" (Be the first to die during a game)

3. "It belongs in a museum" (Take an Artifact from a dungeon)

4. "A wizard is never late" (Be the last person to arrive at the game)

5. "Today is not that day" (Get Healed from 0 HP during an encounter)

1 was achieved in a Cyberpunk one-shot.

4 and 5 are easy.

I have achieved 3 in a TORG game at the very least - and it might be *just about* to happen in a game I'm in on here right now.

DBH wrote:
6. "Did I do that?" (Injure another party member through incompetence, or intent)

My Bloodrager had a non-lethal duel with a combat-oriented Oracle not very long ago. No hard feelings.

Longer ago, my Monk was on a mission to Nidal, where the temples of Zon-Kuthon accept pain as an alternative method of payment for their services. Being a Kuthite herself (and having a kind of "Laurel and Hardy" relationship with the Barbarian), my Monk volunteered to administer the pain (which took the form of an untrained Profession [Torturer] check) when the Barbarian chose to pay that way.

Then of course there was a PARANOIA game or two....

19. "'Why Couldn't She Be The Other Kind of Mermaid?!?'" (back out of a sexual encounter with a monster)

...

23. "'I Think This Is The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship'" (add a new party member after the game has started)

Definitely achieved 14 in a nasty adventure Orthos and I were both in on here for a while.

Achieved 19 in a Call of Cthulhu one-shot (it wasn't very Lovecraftian, though - it was about some kind of werewolf).

Achieved 23 at least a couple of times, both as addition and when someone else was the addition. There were two times that did not work out well at all, but there was a TORG game where that happened a few times and worked out, and I'm also in a game on here where that's happened a few times (others have come and gone, but only a small band of hard-cores manage to keep with it).

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:

33. "Dead men do tell tales." (obtain an important bit of information from a Speak With Corpse spell.)

Sort of achieved 31 in a game that didn't last for me - it was a xenophobic small town, I was a definite "xeno" kind of person, they demanded I register myself, I didn't want to give them my real name, yadda yadda, they let me go because I hadn't done anything wrong, but that didn't mean they liked or trusted me, kind of thing.

Achieved 33 a few times in (what wound up being) a CHAMPIONS one-shot where I played a necromancer who made a living as a detective.

Orthos wrote:

55. "Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven's Door" (Fall into the negatives 10 times without dying)

Definitely achieved 55 - I'm kind of the king of close calls, and only suffered my first D&D/Pathfinder character death very recently (and it was only because an enemy had an unnatural hate-hard-on for Elves, of which mine was the only one in the party).

I'm Hiding In Your Closet wrote:

My Kensei achieved 67, and since it returned, earning 61 and 62 go without saying.

I earned 73 in that "nasty adventure that Orthos was also in" I mentioned earlier. No doubt I've earned 74-76 along the way, depending on the parameters (offhand, I can remember my Summoner surviving a fireball that killed another PC, and my Alchemist surviving a lightning bolt that killed *that same* PC in a later adventure - and that time, it was for good).

THIS. The "MMO version" of this was my crowning story of glory from World of Warcraft. My Balance-major/Restoration-minor Druid single-handedly (possibly with the help of a Warlock's Soulstone) turned a TPK into a victory in one of those early dungeons with the red orcs in the Outlands. The corpses of my party members were cheering me on as I clung to life with Nature's Grasp, Rejuvenation, Innervate, and most significantly, Force of Nature.
