3rd lvl Oradin needs help picking feat (and deciding on archetype)

Advice

Hey there Community!

In Jade Regent our party (Half-orc Greataxe blind Battle Oracle, Dwaven Teenager Sorceress, TWF-dagger unchained Rogue, and the Helpful-Halfling lame/riding Oradin (Oracle 1/Paladin 2)) recently reached level 3. What a blast it's been...

But while most of my leveling up has gone well, I'm stuck with the question of which feat to take. This is complicated by not knowing whether I should take the shining-knight or oath-of-vengance Paladin archetype. And also that I'll take 3 more oracle levels and will squeeze one or two before the next paladin level.

The Rider adds Charisma to saves for the mounts (+5 to all saves by the time I get the ability) and ignores armor check penalties (ACP) for ride checks (which can be important when using mounted combat to avoid the mount getting hit). Gained at Paladin lvl 3.

The Avenger feeds offence and defence with Lay On Hands, so extra of those is always a good use for a feat. However this doesn't happen until Paladin level 4, so the feat doesn't benefit from the synergie until then. If anything else should be fit in, this would be a good time.

While Avenging would typically be the straight up better choice (the only way to get a lot of smites), it might not be here, because my base speed off mount is 10 ft (run speed 30 ft/round and -4 to AC), so when the mount falls, it's very bad. On the other hand a Life Oracle Revelation gives a Channel pool (1+cha/day) that can via meditation crystal be transfered into for regaining uses of Lay on Hands = 3 more smites for the price of 1 feat (and 600 gp for crystals and 6 min of meditation / day).

Current Buildbuild:

Attributes
Stats are finalized at 13/14/14/12/7/19 - increases will be cha, str, wis probably.

Racial:
Outrider (+2 Handle Animal and Ride)
Adaptable Luck (bonus to any d20, +3 if before, +2 if after roll, 3/day (trait bonus included))

Archetypes:
Oracle: Psychic Searcher & Community guardian (I'm paying 2 feats for the latter, it was mechanically a mistake. Post ideas to make the best of it here
Paladin: shining-knight (for cha to mount's saves, and no ACP for ride) or or oath-of-vengance (for more smites, and a nice spell) (Input wanted)

Spells
oo/day Spells 0th: Guidance, Prestidigitation, Mending, Create Water
3/day Spells 1st: CLW, Dream Feast, Divine Favor (extra +1 from Trait)

Abilities
5/day Lay on Hands - 1d6+2(trait)+2(feat)= 5-10 hp (on self as swift, on others 2 hp less as standard)
oo/day Life Link - standard action to form, immediate to drop, transfers 5 hp on my turn to other if they're 5 or more away from max hp.

Traits
Minor Drawbacks: Fey Taken, Naive
Traits: Helpful (Halfling), Fate's Favored, Two-World Magic (Prestidigitation), Rescued (Koya)

Feats
Major Drawback: slow-runner
Feats: fey-foundling (1st), extra-revelation life-link, 1 undecided slot (3rd).

Squire rejected (due to our awesomeness), Extra Revelation: Channel, or Combat Reflexes -&later->Bodyguard. Flag bearer is also interesting, but I don't have a hand free...)

Gear
Weapon: Comp Long bow (+5 to hit), Battle Aspergillum, Lucerne Hammer (+4 to hit/+1 to dmg unless smiting or buffed)
Armor: Four-Mirror Armor + Kilt + Buckler (AC 21)
Riding dog: carrying random stuff, like writing utensils, Any-tool, etc. Bites with auto trip.

Skills
Sofar simple: Handle animal, Diplo, Perception, Ride - but will branch out.

Due to Archetype next oracle level gets: inspiration (+1d6 to Diplomacy, Knowledge (arcana, history, local, nobility, planes, religion), and Sense Motive as long as there's a rank in it). +1 rank +3 class, +stat = 5-10+stat to these skills. And one after a psychic talent (most likely Empathy -roll twice for Sense Motive, or eidetic recollection - take 10 on knowledge).

Sofar
I went Oracle 1 / Paladin 2 for life link, lay on hands and cha to saves. It has been a blast, and his abilities were super relevant to keeping everyone alive. He works well as an incombat blood bank and a tank, but I'm still working out how to best spend the standard actions.

Fighting: As for dealing damage, his dog has been more successful (and also trips), unless Nigel is smiting (1/day), or has another advantage (like flanking). I often forgot to buff (use Divine Blessing / Adaptable Luck), which might make this plausible more often.

Life link: In the moment the number of Life Links is still very limited, sometimes my standard action pays for shifting it, but with every oracle level that will be less the case because with a few life links I'll have those covered that are typically damaged.

Healing: Healing as Lay on Hand on self is swift, but there's "only" 5/day and my party burns through my HP fast. I like using spells to heal (because free) but I do have a Wand of CLW just in case.

Spells: The only non-healing combat spell is Devine Favour. Dream Feast has been saving money while travelling (as storage on the caravan is limited and we are very good at trading those trade goods), but probably isn't worth the spell slot and will be changed out at 4th Oracle level (3 level ups away). Next 1st: bless. Refine Improvised Weapon (in combination with Flagbearer feat) could be fun. 2nd: Shield other most likely. Though these are all things I'd rather cast before combat (buffs), so probably they won't fill up too many of my combat standard actions.

Aid: I can aid another to give +4 AC or +4 to hit. While it goes well with the concept, it's not what I want my default action to be.

Items: Maybe carry some alchemical items and such. Throwing bolas to trip on distance, makes good use of move and standard (as I'd have to pull them out first). Still -4 to hit for non-proficiency might be steep even vs touch ac.

Feats

Extra Revelation: Channel isn't all that useful as a channel because it won't scale well due to multiclassing. However as mentioned in the introduction it can be used to fuel my Lay on Hands, making it quite valuable either way, almost over-powered when turned to smites, or when compared to normal options:

I do switch between weapons often, so Quickdraw has a slight appeal, but I'm so relatively ineffecient with all of them, that it's probably not wroth it. Unless I do increase item use, nets, bolas, tanglefoot bags and other strange gear (with touch AC)...

Combat Reflexes (dex to possible AoO/round) would be fun theoretically, but practically I haven't had too many AoO chances this campaign. So the only reason would be to go for Bodyguard feat (+4 to AC for adjecent ally as AoO triggered by an attack on ally), which matches the fluff, and has me doing even more actions per round, but still doesn't help me figure out my default standard action.
Still since I could use this to increase AC for my mount, this could be a great choice. And even I beat AC 10 for the aid another check most of the time. -- But getting Bodyguard at 7 seems rather late and far away. Maybe a good option if GM will let me retrain Community Guardian, though I also kind of like the first power it gives, just hate giving up the 5th level feat for that particular 3rd level revelation.

If I exchange my luthern hammer for a lance (wielded one handed) I could get Flagbearer. That would help the group (+1 to hit and damage and saves vs fear and charm), but wouldn't change a thing about my action economy. Except if I also get spiked armor (instead of just spiked gauntlets) I'd threaten adjecent. I don't have to switch around as much anymore, and since I can't use the bow with the flag and unlike my various weapons I can't just drop it as a free action to make room (because that would suck for moral). So pro better to hit and damage for group. Con: smaller damage dice for me (unless charging), iffy flavor when stabbing around with the lance, and limits options for ranged combat (as both hands full).

Squire would match the fluff and would graduate into leadership, but is likely to disturb the party's power balance right now, next chance is level 7, but then I'd just use it for a mount.

I like my current riding-dog mount, but it's squishy, so mounted combat might be good, except my ACP (armor check penalty) is so high (-6 currently), that I'm not sure it'll be good enough to oppose most attack rolls. Unless I take the Shining Knight archetype, but even then that's only for 1 attack / round and it's at 3rd Paladin level, which is still 2 oracle levels away (I want more lifelinks asap), so maybe take it then? Although by then I might have gotten a better pet with leadership that doesn't need that protection... Ride-by attack is slightly interesting, more so with spirited charge. 3x little damage is slightly more, but if smiting and or buffed that shall cause explosions...

How much I'd love to ride our "blind" half-orc oracle... it'd be great. :D I'd point him in the right direction and we'd make it explode :)

Anyway, what do you think? After reading all this (congratulations and thanks) what archetype/feats would suit me best?

Again, thank you!

Julix

I'm suprised you went life and not lore/nature getting cha to ac (instead of dex) is crazy strong on Paladins

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I think you need to decide on melee vs ranged. If you're going to use the longbow, I'd move towards Point Blank/Precise/Rapid Shot. If you're going towards Bodyguard, you'll need to use a melee weapon, ideally a reach weapon so Combat Reflexes has some other use. I think, particularly with the mounted coming up, that you'll want to melee more than hang back.

I'm not sure what you mean by "give up the 5th level feat"? You just get that revelation at Oracle 3, and use your 5th level feat for Bodyguard, right? You'll want to use your 9th level feat for Boon Companion to get your mount up to full level.

I'd normally say Vengeance for extra smites. But you might also want to consider keeping Channel Energy, plus taking Channel revelation, and picking up a Phylactery of Positive Channeling, That would give you 6 4d6 Oracle channels, and your paladin channels if needed. Without the Phylactery, I'd probably skip the Channel Revelation and go with Vengeance. Actually, I guess Channel revelation will always be 6 more Lay on Hands, so it's still better than Extra LoH feat.

You should ask your GM about the Watchful Eye spell. It's written as only granted by the dwarven goddess Folgrit, but I feel like it should be a staple of any Protection deity.

Lore is awesome, but it doesn't have life link, which was sort of the point of taking oracle at all. Also high bonus means I can't take as heavy armor (as cha to ac somehow is still limted by what armor you wear).

The bow is merely for switch hitting, and so I can attack things when they're not otherwise easily reached. Reach weapon: yes, that's why I have a lucern hammer, though I might switch to Lance for better charging.

I have to give up the 5th level feat to pay for getting two revelations from the two archetypes, both of which tell me what to take at 3rd oracle level (which is 5th character level). - I probably wouldn't have been allowed to take the major drawback on top of the minor ones or to combine two conflicting oracle archetypes if it hadn't been mainly for flavor. i don't mind having slow runner for the first thing granted by Community Guardian, but I'm really regretting having to pay a feat for the second fixed revelation.

Anyway, great advice on Boon Companion at 9th (after having taken 4 levels of oracle making maximum use of it! awesome). Does that work if I take a cooler companion at level 7 with Leadership? -- also do I have to take Monstrous Leadership or can I get some biestial cohorts with normal leadership? Blinking dog is listed for example at the description of the normal Leadership feat in pfsrd... confused.

I basically agree with this, except that Phylactery is still far far away financially, and without it 3-4 levels of oracle are only 2d6+6 (feats and trait) heal. As for maybe using the Paladin's channel energy with meditation crystals, well is transferring 2 LoH into 1 that has to be used within the next 24 hours (unless you go Hospitaller and get a real channeling pool, but meh), so giving up the pal's channel ability isn't all that bad. Sofar this all trends towards go Avenger.

However, we haven't really talked about how to make my mount sturdy and protected. Is +5 to all saves for the mount a big deal? Probably. Is it worth losing smites over? Well...

That is seriously awesome! That way my party doesn't have to stay close the whole time or screw up this important big spell... it's just a 1st level and for a minute. Stay close to me for this battle and we'll be fine. :) Seriously cool!

Extra Channel pool with crystals won't give me more HP (or smite) to use in a single battle but recharges my LoH uses (at 1 min/LoH) thus allowing me to have two 5 min adventuring days (if both battels are high in HP loss), instead of one. -- Still that's awesome whether or not I go Vengance later.

Flagbearer on the other hand gives +1 dmg (+2 while charging with lance) and gives it to the rest of the group too. And aparently can be used with a shield, as I just found here:

DM Livgin wrote:
And the flag only need to be held, not wielded, so you don't encounter any shield/buckler conflicts.

I was trying to convince the Sorceress, but if she's melee fighting it's with 2 claws, so it's in her way sometimes, and the char is stubbornly using a heavy crossbow (full round action reload!) "becasue she's a dwarf". I'll benefit most from it, because +1 is doubled on lance charge. It limits use of bow as I'd have to store the flag first (though that means I could commit to heavy shield and just carry some javelins). It also messes with my spellcasting, right? As it's taking up the free hand?

+1 AC (bigger shield), +1 to hit and +2 damage on charge (for me) and increasing my contribution to the group by +1 to hit/attack. If that's not helpfulness, what is... seems to go well with the theme, and might reduce the amount of healing I have to provide, given that things might simply die faster. The rogue is two weapon fighting, so extra help to hit is welcome.

-----------

Jade regent probably won't go further than level 15. Too bad Shining Knight and Vengance Oath are incompatible. - Also damn the lack of Feats. I want Power attack and Spirited Charge and Body guard and I could probably think of others :D - I like E6, though I've never played it.

-----------

Given everything we've said how does this look?

Progression:
lvl class
01 Ora1 Fey-foundling, Life-link
02 Pal1
03 Pal2 Channel-Pool
04 Ora2
05 Pal3 -1 feat (Pay for Ora3's fixed double-revelation)
06 Pal4 VENGANCE
07 Pal5 Leadership (mount)
08 Ora3
09 Ora4 Boon Companion
10 Pal6
11 Pal7 Flagbearer (or begin mounted chain, or begin Bodyguard chain)
12 Pal8
13 Pal9 FEAT
14 Pal10
15 Pal11 Feat

I'll have a load of lay on hands and thus smites, however if I do turn them into smites I don't have them to use as instant HP for refilling the blood bank (me). Still, it's not instead of normal smites, it's in addition to and optionally... Still I keep thinking about the saves the mount is missing out on (would a party member get those bonuses if I was riding them?)...

Another thought: if I'm taking flagbearer that late, might as well buy the flag to go with it... should I take a level of bard to go with the flag? As is I'm just barely getting the 11th level paladin ability before endgame. Inspire courage would accompany me for cha11 to cha15... Thoughts?

Grand Lodge

If you're looking towards Flagbearer that late, try to get a Banner of the Ancient Kings. It will double the bonus, and can be attached to your lance to free up hands.

I hate to say it, but I'd drop Community Guardian if you still can.

Yep, that's the flag I meant, which is why I mentioned taking a level of bard, since the inspire courage gets increased by the flag.

Another thing just came up: Cavaliers don't get ACP for ride checks. Emissinary (archetype) get mounted combat bonus feat. Sadly I don't see much else benefiting from high charisma (it used to be Cha to hit on challenge, would have been useful for non-evil enemies). Still, if I took a level in Cavalier and boon companion I'd have a serious mount 3 levels early, with free light armor prficiency - I guess the price for this would be too high, as it costs me for the effectiveness of LoH and Smite and delays vengance...

The reason community guardian was kind of cool was for things like disarming traps. With one rank I can attempt to aid another (for +4) and then with the spirit's help that's another +4. For being a knowledge monster I just have to focus a bit and have the others give up the bonus and boom there's +4 to my knowledge roll... - If the rogue is in a tight spot, boom +4 to his acrobatics check. I hadn't thought about it, but I guess once the mount has 6 int it'll all be +5 since he's then a full ally. This is totally worth a feat. It means I can contribute +9 to someone's check as long as I can beat AC10 for aid another, and as long as the check doesn't take more than a round. And using Fate's Favored and Adaptive Luck I can get lucky when I just barely fail to aid...

Wow, just realized the +5 is competence bonus and thus won't stack with masterwork tools (which the rogue would have), making even this awesome one less good. Also coolest uses (alchemy, etc.) wouldn't work due to the duration limitation....

Another thing: Sohei gets Spirited Charge without pre-req? See here. Two levels in that get full attack as long as the movement wasn't to large. This lacks ride by, which is too bad, but still charging right at something (that's not more than one movement speed away), hitting it hard once and then with itteratives... It's something. Probably would want a bigger pet though, so it too can attack. Tigers are large and pounce, so that would straight up cause explosions... - Imagine that while smiting? -- Anyway, don't have itteratives yet, but spirited charge would be nice...

Is any of this worth multi-classing further or am I just getting distracted?

Edit: How about the Escape Route teamwork feat for the mount and me so neither threatens while we're moving?! That is incredible given my need for mobility to stay in range with effects...

If I have the animal run over people, do I still get to attack? Could this save me from taking ride-by attack?

Damn, I spontaneously cast "wall of text" as a multi-day action again, didn't I?

I'm still thinking about this stuff... The masterwork tools are circumstance bonus, not competence - so it stacks. +5 is like bardic competence at 15th level! And inspire courage doesn't compete with it. Seems like a rather good revelation. - Also can be used on stealth (maybe if our rogue is sniping) without being so weird as a song that goes "Snipe, snipe dear rogue, or we'll all be dead. Hide well in that bush there, and don't let anyone know... ups." :D

So I'm thinking I do like the revelation. I just hate the 3rd level one so, so much.

--------

More thoughts on mounts: The Bodyguard archetype is awesome, as when it uses the feat with same name it increases my AC by 4 (though without CR only 1/round), as is alertness, but the sweetest part is only dying at -(Con+Level) rather than just -Con. Means he doesn't fall over (I can keep riding, and healing and what not, rather than spending move action to get back up from the ground) which is sweet. Giving up multiattack isn't, but hey there's a cost to everything. -- As mentined earlier Escape Route is sweet, is CR worth it?

Guess I still have more to figure out than I assumed when I first started the thread.

03 Pal 2 - Escape Route
04 Ora 2
05 Cav 1 - Boon companion (or maybe Sohei?! - nevermind it's 3/4 bab)
06 Pal 3
07 Pal 4&5 - Vengance, retrain Cav 1 to Pal 5 (or not?)
08 Pal 6
09 Ora 4 - Blocked feat
10 Pal 7
11 Pal 8 - Leadership (or flag or extra

I could take escape route as 3rd level feat, then oracle (2), then take cavalier level as 5th with the boon companion feat to get a solid mount with escape route. Followed by a level of paladin (3), then one of oracle (3, with the blocked feat) at seven (here missing out on getting leadership asap, but the more I looked at it the less I understood how it's supposed to work). Next level gets Vengance, and we retrain cavalier for paladin to get mount. To explain the change in character maybe give the mount a heavier armor than it had before and assume that's why you can't use the mounted combat feat anymore and why suddenly ride check penalties from your armor apply to ride checks. The animal is less responsive through the gear? Next level can be Oracle...

Gha - I can't decide. Feat starvation... Are there magic items that can replace any of the feets I need?

More news: Psychic Searcher seems to be getting Cha to inspiration? (according to pfsrd in an unfamiliar just replace without citing source kinda way, so who knows if that's for real).

Warsighted is compatible with Psychic Searcher and solves my lack of feat delemma to a degree. Take flagbearer for a minute, switch up to precise shot as move action when you suddenly need your bow. Guess since you don't have the flag bearer feat you're not affecting your allys anymore so you can safely drop it on the ground, pull out your bow and fire? Would be a lot more fun with more feats to get the foundation of various chains though :D Still costs a feet though. What do you think is 1 feat worth having 5 minutes (not needing to be consecutive) of a flexible feat? Would be retraining this worth it?

Also the GM is using Hero Labs which for some reason didn't trigger as Psychic Searcher and Community Guardian were used at the same time, despite both being supposed to replace the 3rd level revelation. I explained to him that it is wrong, this clearly is incompatible as we had talked about when he first allowed it, but we'll see how it plays out and he might just let me take what ever happens at that level in Herolabs.

Still just untraining Community guardian is a flat +2 to feats. That's Bodyguard chain right there. Or up to Ride-by Attack. Hm...

Options! Grrr....

Have you considered taking Combat Patrol? With reach, Bodyguard, Helpful, Benevolent armor enhancement and the rest of the concept of your build it seems like a perfect fit.

If you do end up doing this and also decide to take a Cavalier level (I wouldn't actually recommend doing so) then I would look towards the Honor Guard and Dragon Order. If you wanted to go deep into this concept then a single level of Mouser Swashbuckler and The Monkey Style feats are great but that seems a bit too feat intensive for your build. Also you wouldn't be able to get Monkey Shine online until far too late.

Yes, I'm definitely streched between too many concepts. Healbot. Melee. Mounted. Support. hehe...

Combat Patrol needs mobility which I don't have the space in feats for. Bodyguard alone is already a 'maybe I can fit it'. - But it's a nice idea. In 6E I'd totally use it :) --- Also Benevolent armor is a must if I do get the Bodyguard feat... I love that it's just a flat +2k gp price, rather than a +1 or such.

EDIT: Just got the HeroLabs results... renewing radiance overrides the other one somehow. So terrible. So Community Guardian is out! - however it lets me take both (by paying for it with a feat) - and because I've used community guardian before I'll have to pay for retraining. Still it's not that much... - is it just 200 gp and 5 days, because one feature (i.e. different revelation) or is it twice that because class skills are altered as well?

I can't actually retrain into Warsighted until Ora lvl 3, because it doesn't have the revelation class feature before then thus I couldn't have life link or other extra revelations without it.

So how about this: ora1, pal2, pal3, ora2, retrain (and only finish just before leveling up, so the free floating revelation isn't wasted for too long) and then ora3 replace community guardian with warsighted. At 5th level that gives me one extra feat compared to the builds posted earlier and one flexible feat. How valuable is a flexible feat to my build?

Improved combat maneuvers like disarm? Nope, those require Combat expertise. Various mounted directions? nope the chain splits early, then run parallel (i.e. separate)... if I did have loads of feats, I could go up to ride-by and up to bodyguard and use the flexible one to go spirited charge or in harms way as appropriate, and still have access to dodge or other random ones as needed. Given that I'm riding and won't have to use move actions to command my mount once it's a paladin mount, my move actions should be very available for switching things up. Hm... But I don't have spare feats like that. Maybe at higher level and even then adding the archetype would just cost relatively little (50 gp*char level).

If I take mounted combat at 3rd and ride-by from the one that frees up with untraining community guardian I can have spirited charge at 5th level. At that point I don't have vengance yet to smite all the time (which benefits a lot from the multiplier) - and I don't have anything to ensure the safety of my mount.

3rd - CR, Retrain ComG for Body guard, at 5th level do cavalier and boon companion so my mount won't die before I reach a high enough level to have a good one. At 7th if I want monstrous Leadership I can take it, since I qualify, or continue the mounted feat route to ride-by. At 8th I get an actual mount, stacks with cavalier so not strictly necessary to retrain instantly as it only costs 70 gp*cha level to retrain one level of a class later. Still I could retrain at 7th level if I want to save the cash.

Say efficient quiver, does it cover my polearm needs? Can I fit my bow, lucerne hammer and lance in there? should be able to, right?

Considered Monstrous Mount and the follow up feat?

I had heard of it before but first confused it with monstrous leadership or whatever that one is called, this here.

Monstrous Mount seems much more limited...

Example: I can get a griffon but it can't fly until I get another feat?

Compared to "If the magical beast's effective cohort level is lower than what is allowed by your effective druid level, the cohort gains class levels equal to the difference." - I love the idea of having class levels on my animal companion...

However the feats you suggest are much more clear. I don't quite understand how monstrous companion feat is supposed to work. Monstrous Mount on the other hand is simple... super limited choice, but clearly explained what you get.

I still don't really understand what kind of mount I even would want if I could take anything.

There's a dinosaur that I loved mechanically, but I dislike dinos a lot. They're not part of my image of medieval-fantasy genre, at least not anywhere but in reaaaaally remote regions maybe.

The dog is worse than the riding dog for some reason (maybe an advanced riding dog would work well as a basis for a good mount).

Crocodiles are funny and awesome, but I'm worried I might touch the ground or fall off when it does the deathroll...

Griffons are good, cause yay they fly, but we'll be indoors a lot. It's why I'm a small rider in the first place.

Small cats seems okay, but the immage is weird given my preference for heavy armor and a lot of gear. That moving at 500 ft speed is disturbing... also I can't go too far or I'll leave range for life links.

The beatle is cool... bad fly speed (which is funny), high ac... but humpf... I can't imagine how you'd sit on it... the entire back seems to be the wings... right?

I'd like a large wolf that's really not large but just rather big for medium size... :D

You did see their Int scores, right?

Paladin mount gets 6 int

Escape route feat won't work at the proposed level because as Lune points out the mount won't have high enough int to pick just anything that early.

A new thing I found is that riding dog isn't a normal campanion choice, though beastriders (cavlier archetype) do get it. -- They don't have an advancement posted anywhere though... - I think an "Advanced Riding Dog" template is about comparable to a wolf when it gets large and still weaker than a tiger or such, so not too op. Still quite a bit tougher than a "dog"... Who doesn't even get trip!

So I'll retrain Community Guardian probably, at which point the revelation will free up which I 'll use for the channel pool, so that won't be my feat. (Unless I change my mind and go warsighted after all)

Using flag bearer on a spear (banner of the ancient kings) is still far away, but maybe if I could use it on my lance (as long as I'm wielding only the buckler in the other it's hand is "free", so might work...

Mounted Combat feat would be redundant given the cavalier level... - with the Dragon Order I get Perception back as class skill (which I lose when retraining community guardian).

Combat Reflexes. As 5th will be boon campanion Bodyguard is still far away, unless I retrain the extra revelation feat from first level into bodyguard and wait with the extra revelation channel pool. Still it's HP/channel won't go up much, so now at low levels it's not just useful for recharging Lay on Hand, but actually as Channels, still meh.

Decision has to be made in the next 9 hours. If there's any last golden ideas please let me know.

Another update:

My GM heard from an employee of the German company that sells Pathfinder there, that there's potential legal issues with d20pfsrd, so he no longer accepts that as a source and instead we only use what we actually own a copy of (mainly his stuff).

The list of sources is being changed to this List

Core, APG, and with GM's OK ACG, ARG, UC, UM, UC, UE, and Unchained, Jade Regent Players Guide, and finally Player Companion: Varisia Birthplace of Legends.

Which means Community Guardian falls out (no retraining necessary here, so I guess that's nice), as does Slow Runner (so no change for 1st level feat availability. The "extra revelation: life link" becomes a normal revelation). Fey Foundling is no longer available, and that's a big deal to me. Same is true for Helpful Halfling, though surely there are better traits out there. Losing this would push me away from the bodyguard chain, and I guess towards the mounted combat feats. Lack of boon companion makes the cavalier dip rather pointless, and is quite a severe debuff to my Animal Companion, that I'm not too happy about. Though if he allows leadership for a mount, I could go with a bonded weapon instead.

As the rules change is happening in the middle of the last location of part 1 of an AP I have until the end of it to finalize changes, and get to use stuff until then, which is worth something, I guess.

Still this messes a fair bit with the character concept, so I'm not sure I'll continue after the end of the AP, especially as the reason for the restriction seems rather silly. If it was about power or such I could see changing specific things, but while the options I used are more exotic they're not really more powerful than those used by the others. The Rogue just got upgraded to unchained. Him and the Battle oracle regularly hand out large amounts of damage (while even my mundane riding dog regularly outdamges me and trips on top), and the sorcerer is good until she runs out of spells, well... She'll get powerful soon enough, being full caster and all.
