9th level wiz needs to "take down" a fellow player quickly without killing.

At 9th level the party should have access to raise dead, if not then most games will allow access via teleport. Since it involves a druid reincarnation will suffice (what's the druid going to say?)

It is expensive, either take it out of party loot or sell some of the druids equipment... Of course tread lightly here since that's the sort of stuff which can cause table schisms, but if you're already prepping for a pvp I'll assume such conflicts can be handled at your table.

For bonus points, if your wizard invested in use magic device, get a scroll of raise dead so you can cast it yourself:

Revivification against One's Will

A soul can't be returned to life if it doesn't wish to be. A soul knows the name, alignment, and patron deity (if any) of the character attempting to revive it and may refuse to return on that basis.

Can you hold a rod, like merciful, while writing a scroll, and use a charge of it to imbue into the spell (if you pay for the higher spell level scroll writing costs)?

The Exchange

If you want him dead, buy a necklace of adaptation, use cloudkill scroll. Fight him in a 20ft by 20ft room, laugh as he slowly suffocates to death.

Seen people conduct this sequence.

Wizard:I open the door.GM, what do I see?
GM: You see 5 *hostile creatures* in a room.
Wizard: I cast cloudkill in the room. My familiar (cue snickering imp) closes the door.
Wizard: We wait till the screaming stops, then enter the room.
3 min later...
Wizard goes into the room, takes the phat lewt off the dead monsters.

If you don't wish to kill, make 2 scrolls of obscuring mist, and 2 scrolls of greater invisibility, a scroll of spectral hand, and 2 scrolls of calcific touch.

Use obscuring mist to buy yourself time to get your spectral hand out, and you and your spectral hand greater invised up. Use scroll of calcific touch, continuously touch him with your spectral hand until he becomes a stone statute.

The problem with pits is (especially if he has shaping focus as one of his feats), is that he turns into an eagle and flies out. Not to mention, the humble leopard has a climb speed. Its a fairly decent combat shape, with pounce, rake and medium size for easy charges.

you should each tie an angry goblin to a rope and beat each other in a manly game of goblin tag. It is the only way to know who is the true leader . >:)

No! That's cruelty to goblins. Goblins are far nicer then pathfinders. They are not murderhobos, because they have a boat for a home. And they sing awesome songs too! Go find a murderhobo pathfinder to replace the poor goblin!

Wow. lots of good material here. Thank you all.

Once again, I cant tell if this is guy is really good roleplaying, or just being a bad player. He has done things that I have a hard time understanding. Not necessarily "bad wrong fun", just odd.

Talking to him in the past sometimes works. I just need a plan in case he does not listen.

here's one to scare the shi-t out of him. note, he might die..but it happens...
he has only one wild shape a day at level 4-5 druid. make sure he uses it(or at least on something that can't fly, hack casting invisibility on yourself would most likely make sure he'll get a bear \cat \wolf form to use scent).
then pull out a scroll of reverse gravity- no save. minimum caster level 13 , make sure to be outside. 130 feet upward drop to clear open sky. and last for 13 rounds. next round cast acid pit right below and then dismiss the gravity back to normal. at level 9 your pit will be 40 fit. that is 170 feet drop for 17d6 falling damage and 2d6 acid damage. add the fact taht if you take damage trying to climb up you need to make an other climb check, and he will have a hell of a day trying to get out of the 30 dc climb pit. assuming the fall won't kill him.

best part? next time he makes a move. pull out a scroll from your bag and hold it in front of him.see him go birdy..

Who's the LE char yourself or the other player?

This ^ :D

Otherwise if this is some sort of sanctioned duel, what are the rules? How far apart? Initiative? Pre-buffing?

Without knowing more, my initial response would be to Teleport/DDoor away, buff and summon, then come back and throw non-lethal SoS (web/stinking cloud/pit) while my pets block for me.

Just make sure you agree to stop the boat before the duel. Most of these tactics would be complicated, and possibly damage the ship, if you're still moving during it.

Not to mention the captain won't be able to navigate during.

So what is it exactly that this player is actually doing? Also why not become the new captain yourself? With spells such as skeleton crew, unseen crew and mending (and similar spells) you could fulfil most roles yourself so why not captain too?

few spell i suggest

1) Eneveration still powerfull spell on scroll (you said before your friend cant fly soooo fly high and spent some eneveration scrolls on him)

2)Deep Slumber can put to sleep 10hd of enemies he's 9hd right?

3)dominate person

4) charm person and "ask him" to not try fight vs you ?

5)Baleful polymorph... sheep

6)suggestion

7)shrink item Big Cage for large animals and drop on his head
better use yout spell slot for spell 2-6

Use a Tanglefoot Bag first. Touch attack, so you will likely hit. Even if he makes the save he is still entangled (-2 BAB, -4 Dex [so -2 Ref Save], eff -4 CMD) and can only move at half speed.
Then use Aqueous Orb Hydraulic Push to then send him overboard.

The Ray of Exhaustion is tough to land as it is vs Fort [+8 class, maybe +3 Con, +2 Cloak]. However, by getting him Exhausted gives a -6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity (eff -6 to CMD), move at half speed, no charge, or run, making the Hydraulic Push more likely to succeed. [Fatigued imposes -2,-2 for -2CMD.] Enervation does as well (-1 to -4 CMD).

His CMD = 10 + 8[BAB] + 4[Strength] + 4[Dexterity] + 1[Dodge] + 2[Ring] = 29
Entangled + Exhausted + Enervated = -4 + -6 + -1..4 = -11..-14 CMD
Your CMB = 9[Level] + 6[Intelligence] = 15
If you can impose all three conditions, it will be 15+1d20 vs 15..18

No damage, plenty humiliation.

Grease is another Reflex targeting spell. With a save of maybe 8 vs a DC of 17, he still has a reasonable chance to make it. Tanglefoot bag first, and he goes to 6 vs 17. Add Enervate and it gets better.

Remember, Reflex is his bad save, so use it.

Do you have a familiar? If it flies, it might even be able to drop the tanglefoot bag for you. Heck, on a ship even a monkey could do it from up in the rigging. That's humiliation right there. You could keep a few up in the crow's nest "in case of boarders" and use them in the duel too.

Check the animal trick "bombard" for a little more context.

The character I was playing lost his ship to an encounter in book 2. Since the "Graff Spee" went down, he decided his time as captain was over.

And the drama with player who is captain seems over.

Its all moot at this point. Character died playing in a "necromantic fog"

I still done understand player, but crisis is over.
Thanks for all the help.
