Ultimate Equipment 2 ideas

Product Discussion

How about it?
(going by UE's table of content)
1) New weapons and armors: what would be nice is if you could get more racial weapons (especially halflings and gnomes), as well as reprints from current booklets.

2) New gear... that I have no idea where to begin with. I think that might not be necessary, but reprints (again) would be useful.

3) New magic arms and armors: NOW we're talking! Go nuts. Maybe some weapons and armors to enhance classes from both the Advanced Class Guide and Occult Adventures.

4) Rings, Rods, and Staves: Same as above.

5) Wondrous Items: Same as above.

6) Artifacts and Other Items: How about more intelligent items, but with a longer backstory? How about making an intelligent item the catalyst of a campaign or adventure? Artifacts are pretty straightforward, but if it's intelligent, it basically becomes an NPC.

Liberty's Edge

I really don't see the Need for a New Book yet.

Do we really need a New Equipment Book yet?

Do you really need a Equipment list for

Rope: Silk, Hemp, Horsehair, Oxtail, Manticore Mane...priced by the foot?

Club: Oak, Ash, Northern Red Oak, Southern Red Oak, Redwood, Cedar, Apple, Cherry...priced by the board foot?

Sorry but at this point it would appear as if they are just trying to pump out "expensive' books if they push out another equipment book. Quality will suffer, they will get a bad reputation if that happens.

I personally think that they need to focus on low level "stand all" Modules, and Settings books, detail out the World more. Maybe a book of NPCs

I don't know that we need a new book either, but if there were one I would hope for:

-clarifications on under described equipment like the klar or tower shield.
-Some rules interaction clarification on improvised weapons and non-damaging weapons given the means to damage.
-Additional material options for nets/lassos and tower shields.
-Clearer weapon trait rules regarding grappling weapons and similar traits.
-Better rules for how size effects the stats of an object.
-a list of available maneuvers for each weapon appearing in abbreviated form in their chart entry.

As for new things rather than fixed things, I'm not really sure. I'd like to see magical equipment be more generally useful. Items that only work for one class should work for anyone with the relevant class ability. Some item use feats should be added that allow you to boost the DC on certain item abilities to some useful level, something like the magus's wand mastery but for wonderous items.

Yeah, let's get them to fix the first UE before we clamber for a new one.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Honestly I'd love a new one if for no other reason that to pull all the magic items in the rest of the APs and modules into one place. There have been several magic items that I've just happened upon in looking through APs that I have given to my players because they fit the theme of the game or the character, but I would've never known about them if I wasn't just idly looking through APs which I otherwise had no interest in running. Granted that's not enough for a new full-on hardback release (and there are only so many new weapons, armor and alchemical items you can add before you're really getting into minutiae) but having a resource that puts them all together like UE did would be helpful. A player companion "Equipment of the Inner Sea" or something would work just as fine for me.
I also would've loved it they reprinted all the crafting rules together in one section in UE as that could be useful as well for creating new items but that boat has sailed.

Fix? Huh... care to explain?

That would be great, because I... don't think that the majority of the items presented in APs are Golarion-exclusive either.

I also like the idea of compiling old magic items from APs. Something like Celestial Plate Armor and others. And new Ioun Stones, because you always need more of those.

I think more scaling items like in Unchained would actually be awesome. A Weapons of Legacy book would be super cool and lots of people would buy it. wink wink

I'm surprised that this concept hasn't become mainstream yet. I see no problem adding this Unchained rule as a "non-Unchained" rule.

Some items scale according to their wielders, some don't... that's it really.

I want more special Wayfinders!

I'm not sure what needs fixing. Ultimate Equipment is one of the two Paizo products that I don't have massive fundamental complaints about (along with Ultimate Campaign).

One thing I thought was missing from Ultimate Equipment were the equipment traits from Adventurer's Armory. I could see those traits, along with some new equipment traits, in a future hardcover like Ultimate Equipment 2.

I personally don't care very much about having lots of items compiled in one book, since I only ever reference Paizo items in an online database, and having them in one book only removes one or two clicks (or no clicks, depending on which online database is used).

The thing I appreciated most in UE is actually the random treasure charts. Even if Ultimate Equipment 2 doesn't happen (or doesn't happen for a long time), I'd be interested in a lower-priced short PDF or softcover which just had treasure tables, updated with items released after Ultimate Equipment. It wouldn't compile all the rules for the actual magic items--it would just give book and page references for each and assume the reader could either reference them online or had access to the books.
I doubt my idea will happen any time soon, though.

There are plenty of new magic items to go in an EG2 if you take all the new stuff from the APs, correct? My fav is the Starbow and you won't find that except in an AP. I would love to have that in another Equipment Guide. The original is my most often perused hardback (by myself and my players/sons).
