At what point of your slumber does that slumber end your spell?

Rules Questions

Say a 20th level mage gets into a battle and casts an hour/level spell, then shortly after the battle, lays down for his 8 hours. Is his hour/level spell still in effect until he wakes?

The spell doesn't end until the duration expires. If a 20th level caster casts an hour/level spell, the spell disappears 20 hours after it was cast, regardless of what the wizard did in between. Sleeping/resting doesn't cause a spell to end prematurely.

Oh awesome. I guess I always just assumed it did. I'm glad I asked!

Getting killed doesn't cause your spells to end, either. Once you cast them, they don't care about you anymore, special effects like Dominate Person aside.

That's not true. Dead bodies typically are no longer valid targets for most spells and the magic then ceases to work, and no it doesn't return if restored to life.

I think the statement was if the caster of the spell dies. At which point the statement is completely correct, the spell does not end.

As for if a spell end on a creature that dies? That is currently being discussed in another thread, which you are aware of as you have posted in it.

Ah, if he was talking about the caster dying then yes it has nothing to do with the spell's duration (unless it has a duration of concentration). If the target of the spell dies it is as I said.

And yes, I am aware of the other thread. Which is why I made the statement anyways, because it was on my mind.
