Players too suspicious

Shackled City Adventure Path

In foreshadowing one of the cagewrights my players are already super suspicious of one of the villians and it's only the end of chapter 3. It's kind of disappointing. In their defense I may have gone a little too far with his actions. But what's done is done.

I've considered making the NPC not a villain to surprise them, but I'm not sure. Maybe finding a way to relieve the suspicion somehow?

What have other DM's done in a case like this.

Which villain? What do they know?
Remember: Suspicions without proof are pretty worthless. You could have that villain show up in other ways to divert their attention.
Start foreshadowing another villain.. maybe that'll make them think they're wrong in their suspicions.

See the entry about"V as patron", perhaps the villian in question suddenly becomes helpful and provides the party with a wand or potions or MW gear of some sort.

This is easy to introduce:
Is the Party avoiding this person?
Following this person around?
Speaking out about this person?
Casting detection spells at this person?

etc....
