Seems like less folks are commenting this round. I wonder if they're waiting to play the encounters first or if the encounter round is just less exciting for people than the previous ones, since they have to really experience them to judge them.

Yeah, as others have said I think it's a combination of voting fatigue and also people taking time out to play-test the encounters.

Also, hi! Sorry I have been so quiet lately. Between this contest and a number of other stuff going on for me right now, my schedule has been very hectic. But I wanted to pop in to say hello while I had the chance :)

Every round past round 1 few people stick around... the Critique my item thread is usually a good indicator as it starts to die the interest in the contest begins to wane.

I personally stick around and there's a die hard audience but yeah it is a little sad to watch these boards go from a vibrant community to a ghost town.

I think playtests could be broadcasted better. There's usually an overwhelming abundance of people looking for a chance to play, but it's been difficult getting traction.

Maybe I should've posted in Recruitment after all, but I thought the people that were following RPGSS are more likely to share their experience in the contest threads afterwards.

I know, I feel a little guilty about not commenting more this year, but I have just so much work to finish up. It's been that way since last year (lots of work, not the same unfinished things >.<), so I guess that's a good thing.

I also blame Paizo a little... had they not sprung this one on me, I had actually planned to clear my decks for December to do my usual support and feedback to the community, but the devious peeps they are scheduled it right bang in the middle of my work mountain *shakes fist and grrrr's menacingly*

Yay! As I take a momentary break, my brain kicks in with a confirmed "done" and one less thing on the table.

Just one big one left to do...

*peddles the grindstone to spin it faster*

(although I have one thing left to do, I have two already waiting in the wings and a third in proposal stage - lol, so much for clearing the decks!)

It's not too late to post in recruitment. (I'd have joined in, but timing just doesn't work for me, I'm afraid. Even PBP, which I normally enjoy, is out for me since I'm out of town next week.)

Still planning to comment on the encounters, but may take a while. As others have noted, the comments pretty regularly fall off as the contest progresses -- I think it's also partly that each round gets longer, so it takes more time to read them all.

I remember that feeling very well last year, and how bummed I was about it. And to my great disappointment, I've been one of those who has disappeared this year; I'm in the thick of my academic quarter now, grasping to find time for all the stuff I have to attend to, and Superstar just got kicked to the curb for me. But I'm still going to try to find time to look at the encounters!

Well I've read everyone's encounter, good job everyone! I'd provide feedback to you, but that's generally frowned upon. If any contestants want to talk privately about round 4 submissions, send me a PM and we can chat.

Upside of the "ghost-towning" of these boards post competition, is that the people who are REALLY helpful with feedback tend to stick around.

I've found some of the best feedback came from the blazing 9 thread. :-) Not that the critique my item thread was bad. It was just so much more focused, and the emotions of the competition were not muddying things.

Not that I welcome the ghost-towning of it... it's a little like the Monday after gencon... kinda... disenchanting.

:-)

I'm curious to see how the commenting plays out in the final round. It makes perfect sense that reading through a complex, 1,400 word encounter will deter or delay comments, but at least playtesters for this round have about 2 weeks to work on responses. The module proposal is even longer, and according to the timetable voters will only have three days to look at those.

Is that the way it always works? That seems like an absurdly short period of time.

Well, I guess since that's potentially more about narrative than tactics, playtesting isn't needed. Even though there are more words, I can actually vote faster.

Obviously play testing is invaluable, but almost as valuable is the sense of "Am I excited to try this as a player or GM?" That kind of feedback could be given after a quick perusal. Ideally feedback would be a nice mix of the two.

I think there will be more comments when the weekend comes. It's difficult for people to symmetically go through the entries during the week.

My feelings as a result of the slow comment rate.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32 , Dedicated Voter Season 9 aka Curtisin

I think it's just the general fatigue that sets in, as people get a bit overwhelmed in round 1. That and for a lot of people they might find that they need to invest more time in each individual entry, which can be difficult, as opposed to a couple of minutes per matching set of items.

I certainly found that to be the case for myself. That said though, votes have now been cast for the encounters. Good luck everyone. :)

That makes it easy to vote along animal preference lines.

If we're allowed to deviate from standard household pets, I want to make my preference a sloth. I was happier than a rational person should be when I found out that it's possible to have a sloth familiar in Pathfinder.

And who wouldn't be, given their usefulness in combat encounters?

I know the feeling; honestly the submission quality was high enough I think I would have wanted more votes even then. Good job, and good luck to the remaining competitors.

This is a hard round for the voters. There is just no easy candidate in my humble opinion.

I am not ashamed to admit, that this rounds voting is difficult for me in particular. I'm just really in awe.

Good job top 8. Really good job.

I want you to know, even if you don't read this until well after the competition, I'm so proud to have competed with you. It was and is an honor!

Didn't get time to write up comments on the encounters, but I did go over them all carefully. I had a couple definite favorites, but I can't predict who the top four will be. It'll be pretty tight, I think.

Four of you are about to have a very busy week. :-)

Indeed. The countdown to the reveal is always the most nerve-wracking.

In unrelated news, can we comment on the encounters now? With the AM/PM mix-up, I'm hesitant to jump the gun.

I don't see why not, no matter which time was correct, voting it done.

I would advise staying quiet until the reveal, as per usual. It would REALLY suck at this phase to see someone disqualified*.
