It creates a setting where women who want to play, have this icon, sitting there, saying that "Telling women that they should stay at home and just raise kids" is a wall of entry to those players.

And I'm one of those players, and I don't feel any such barrier from a god telling both men AND women (both Cayden AND Iomedae) that what they need is a spouse to balance them out, and that they should settle down a bit and have families. Especially when, if my character disagreed, and wanted to forgo children to devote her life to a crusade, she could just follow a deity who leads one.

The only reason that I'm still in this thread, is because if someone does stumble upon this thread I want them to know that there are plenty of people in the Paizo community who love and appreciate the mission of inclusiveness and equality that Paizo believes in.

As for the rest of you folks please remember the following:

Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes.

Creating things is hard, the vast majority of people don't do it. Even those who do it, and get paid for it put so much of their own time, effort, energy and love into their creations.

When creating for tabletop RPGs it's even harder because so much of that content gets filtered through a GM before a player might see it.

So when you hear horror stories about tables full of unwelcoming dudes, who make women feel alienated and those women then get driven out of a creative and welcoming hobby. Those players will often assume it's an attribute of the game as written rather than the jerk at the table.

Paizo is trying to change RPG table culture to encourage everyone to play together. Because the most stifling thing for creativity, is to drown out diverse voices.

Well if bigots are ones to be kept away, why does Sarenrae not condemn slavery, something her cultists have been shown heavily practicing with at best ambivalence from Sarenrae and at worst support?

Last I checked slavery was considered more of a social faux pas than "mildly sexist."

Or shall we address the prominence of the lesser deity Milani, the chaotic good deity of insurgency.

How about Ragathiel, the good aligned Empyreal lord of revenge, who somehow remains a god of chivalry despite showing mercy to surrendered foes explicitly being a chivalrous act?

What about Dammerich, the weighted swing. The Lawful good deity of executioners, implying that capital punishment is a favorable thing in a society where death is reversible and thus execution aside from with a final blade is nothing more than a financial fine and a torture session?

How about Osiris being lawful good despite indulging in incest and being undead?

What about the fact that abortion is attributed to Urgathoa, an evil deity of plague and death? Would that not foster a sympathy from those who would choose to make choices for people who happen to be pregnant?

Pathfinder is full of questionable things practiced by good deities.

This is the sloppiest execution of a retcon they could have done.

Don't want him to be sexist? Have him learn otherwise from the actions of his compatriots.

Make it growth, not retro-active changes.

Removed a long series of posts and locking. Debate is absolutely OK on our site, but pointed statements about any member of our staff and the quality of their work as an employee is inappropriate and ultimately baiting for an argument (and to be clear, we're not cool with this kind of commentary directed at anyone in our community, whether they're from Paizo, a 3PP, or a fan). Some of the commentary here from a few sides was verging on outright toxic also. Read through our Community Guidelines before posting.
