Question

Human 6th Magus archetype Kensai and Bladebound (they do not affect each other from what I could see)

Magus Arcana: Animate Weapon

1st question: Are their restrictions on what the Animate Weapon is? Could a Magus with this feat Animate a Huge Battle Axe? Or would it be more like those they can wield, aka Medium, or even more restrictive able to use it on those weapons that they are proficient in as well as only Medium Weapons?

2nd Question: With the Magus Arcana and Animate Weapon, would they get three attacks:

1: The Magus Arcana, Animate Weapon

2: Normal Attack

3: Spell Strike

What, if any, reductions to their attack bonus would they get?

Thanks

3P rules, so wrong forum for this one, I think.

Liberty's Edge

Magus Arcana, Animate Weapon

Third party product, I doubt anyone can give you the RAI of that arcana here.

The RAW of the ability isn't clear for your 1st question.

For the 2nd, yes, the magus will get 3 attacks, more with a BAB of 6+ and he will not suffer any additional penalty beside the -2 for spell combat (to use spell strike + normal attack(s) you need to use spell combat).

Perfect strike modifies the arcane pool and so does Black Blade.

Kensai swaps out a 9th level arcana and Black Blade modifies the whole arcana class feature by prohibiting you from selecting the familiar arcana.

With the the FAQ you may see table variance on whether or not these stack. Ask your GM.

Whoa didn't thought of that. So kenasi bladebound is no longer legal? That's some big change.

Honestly never liked how cokie cutter that was but axing it completely is kinda bad, the idea of a weapon master specialized in fighting with his sentient blade is kinda cool and also quite iconic.

how does prohibiting a magus from taking a certain arcana or forcing the to take critical perfection change the whole class feature ?

also perfect strike doesn't change the arcana pool it replaces spell recall

If "adding 1 more feat to the pool of choices" (quoted from the FAQ) is enaugh to be considered a change to the father class ability, then "removing one arcana from the pool of choice" also is.

To the first question, here's the relevant RAW:

Animate Weapon wrote:
The magus can expend 1 point from her arcane pool as a swift action to imbue a single weapon she touches with the ability to fight on its own for a number of rounds equal to her magus class level.

Bolded part says it's a weapon you touch, and says nothing about it having to be wielded; so if you can touch a Colossal sized Greatsword, you can use this ability with it.

It also further explains that this ability can be used on weapons attended by other creatures, so long as you succeed at a Disarm maneuver, further suggesting you need not be able to actually use the weapon to use this arcana on it.

That being said, this arcana is overpowered as hell for what you spend for it; such is the case with 3PP.

Just an FYI:

In the game, the DM (me) and player reached this conclusion:

The resolution was that the Weapon they use, if not the same size, they don't have the Feat/Class ability to use it, etc., then "No"

Any weapon they themselves can use is allowed.

As Darksol the Painbringer so correctly pointed out, it the Magus touched a Colossal Titan's Greatsword and it only cost 1 point, the entire thing is broken
