One of my favorite things to do when a bunch of new classes and archetypes hit the shelves is to read through it and see what I'm inspired to create character-wise - not necessarily the build itself, but the person. I think it would be really cool to see what sorts of things others are coming up with! Please, post your ideas here!

This is what I've come up with so far:

(Melee Occultist) A young boy finds his father dead in bed, a gandasa sticking into his back. He reaches out, grabs the weapon, and pulls it out of his father's cold body. He sits there, waiting, hoping that without the weapon lodged in him that his father will get right back up as if nothing happened. It doesn't. The guards all think it was one of his "business partners" he had swindled one too many times, but somehow the boy knows that is not true. His father was killed by someone very close, someone he trusted completely. But how could he prove it? He only knew because the sword told him.

I have one that I came up with a little while ago.

(Caster Occultist) A man who has run a dirty pawn shop in a city for years, a business he inherited from his father and his father inherited from his father before. He's never felt like he's had a purpose in life, simply buying and selling things precious to someone else. Then he discovers something strange. A few items so old that he'd forgotten they'd existed. The objects seem to radiate with history and purpose, long forgotten to anyone still alive. He dedicates himself to understanding these items, finding a purpose in unveiling the forgotten history that only these relics can tell.

(Medium - spirit dancer) A person who's spent his whole life hearing voices and being told he was crazy and to ignore the voices, that they weren't real. Sometimes he'd "lose control of himself" and do something not normal for him. When his parent's decide to put him into the crazy house he runs and embrace the voices to guide him safely. Able to change moods on a dime, he begins to lose understanding of which voice is his.

(Medium - Reanimated Medium). He knows he's an old soul. He's reincarnated many, many times; just as everyone in his culture believes. He knows for sure he has, because this last time around it went wrong. Instead of being reborn in a new life, he was brought back to this one. Now he can tap into the skills and abilities he's developed over many lives but no longer knows if he can continue on the great wheel of reincarnation, or if this is his last form...

(Spiritualist -Fractured Mind) She's always felt like two people in one body. The meek, unassuming, pushover that everyone knew and the raging, furious berserker that threatened to explode out of her inner thoughts. One day, it did.

(Spiritualist -Onmiyoji) The men of his family have been priests at the shrine for as long as anyone can remember. The day after the bandit attack that destroyed the shrine and almost killed him was the first time the ancient martyr/saint, whose shrine it was, had appeared to anyone in centuries. And she was mad.

(Alchemist - Promethean) She called him 'father', just like Mina used to before he had lost her to the plague so many years ago. She even looked the same. He barely noticed the sharp fangs and the small, delicate wings..

(Fighter - Sensate) "Focus", he told himself as he practiced his sword drills. He'd never learned to shut out external distractions, so instead he embraced them. He learned to read an opponent from the way they breathed, how they stood and moved. He had learned to notice a great many things. Including the subtle but worrying expressions on his masters face whenever they found another victim of the Slasher serial killer...

(Occultist - Sha'ir) He was still a child when he learned that not everyone could hear the stones speak like he could. Although the clans priests could discern no clerical ability in him, they still declared him touched by the gods. He wanders now, always seeking to redress the balance of the elements, helped and guided by those very forces.

(Spiritualist) The Order is ancient even by the standards of his people. Created during the war that split the Drow from the Elves, it's members used subtle magics to bind embodiments of the powerful emotions generated during the centuries long fight. Now he is the last. Or so he thought, until the embodiment of fear appeared in his home and tried to kill him...

(Investigator - Psychic Detective) She had always been too curious for her own good, The Abbess had said with a smile when Amanli declared her desire to see the outside world. Now she uses the esoteric skills learned as a child in the nunnery to help her find the truth of the world.

The Librarian. Tome Eater Occultist.

basically going to be my almost always character. Can take it in many directions as well.

An Occultist (Necroccultist) Android who doesn't understand the taboos of necromancy. This lonely soul is forever haunted by forlorn spirits yet doesn't understand why due to his lack of empathy.

Psychic (amnesiac + formless archetypes) where the psychic is actually long dead and temporarily corporeal by some means. As they recover their power they lose their touch with the living world and eventually they become more ectoplasmic than living.

I don't know if the archetypes combined but thought it sounded cool and thematic.

(Mesmerist - Vexing Daredevil) After growing up in a minor noble house being groomed for political marriage, swordplay is the only thing that makes her boring life bearable. Venting is much easier when your target doesn't move, but being schooled by the best teacher (her parents') money can buy helps fix that. Her enemies shrink away from her stare, never remembering the feeling of that fire in her eyes suddenly becoming more real when she struck. Some students would leave the arena sporting minor cuts and swore they had been impaled or burned somehow with no marks to prove it. Her opponents are starting to lack the challenge they used to, though, and she needs to work out her frustrations somehow...

Occultist: Osiriani occultist, the latest in a long line of treasure hunters. Her father before her, her grandfather before him, and so on, have all raided tombs for as long as they can remember in the effort to find proof that their family is, indeed, descended from the first Pharaohs. Her implements include her lucky hat, her grandfather's compass, and a an adventuring vest that's been passed down from before her great-grandmother's time.

(Kineticist - water) Badly burned as a young man when his familys houseboat was set on fire, saved by being thrown into the sea by his mother and healed by a priest of the god of the sea. While recovering he could only think of the cooling embrace of the water when escaping the fire. Soon after he discovered he could call upon the waters whenever he concentrated. Now he seeks two things, how the fire that killed his family started and why he has such a connection to the waters that saved him.

(Occultist - Tome Eater). Like all good goblins, he knew that writing stole your thoughts and trapped them. But, he thought, wouldn't that mean he could then steal someone else's thoughts by taking the words into himself? It worked too. Though that may be because the first book he ate belonged to a wizard and made his mind pop and sizzle, new, more coherent thoughts fizzing through it.

Ghost Rider/ Order of the Eastern Star: She was a knight of the realm, just and fair and noble, exactly as a knight should be. This, however, didn't signify with the terrifying entity that had been the source of madness in a nearby town and the deaths of several dozen villagers. After slaying her faithful steed and dragging the knight to its lair to consume her mind, the knight was saved by members of a secret order, people who, like her, had discovered that their skills weren't enough to cope with what lay behind the world. After being inducted into their ranks and giving up her old life, she rides across the countryside upon the energized spirit of her steed, seeking more psychic predators to defeat.
