Hi Owen/Superstar moderators.

Where the rules say we have to refer to the PRD, is this referring to only to the game rules / construction requirements etc or is it more far reaching?

Sorry if this is a bit garbled, what I am trying to ask is something like "Is Golarion lore fair game?"

i.e. the gods, places etc which aren't in the prd - are we able to base our items and ping off of Golarion lore in their design?

To clarify, the PRD requirement just refers to the mechanical components of your entry. Use of Golarion lore for the "flavor" portion of your entry is acceptable.

Chris is, of course, correct. We just want to make sure that whatever rules elements you use are things the voters can look up on the PRD.

Golarion lore is entirely fair game!

Thanks for confirming that guys!

I'm plenty happy to ask the daft questions so everyone can see the answers... I've been doing it for 9 seasons, so why change the habit of a competitor-time? ;)

So, on roughly the same topic... I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this (at least I hope I do) but I would rather ask, than find out I'm horribly wrong later:

Are specific spells used in the construction of one's item required to be in the PRD? For example (an example that has nothing to do with my entry), Burst of Radiance is a Paizo-published spell, from Champions of Purity, yet it does not appear in the Paizo PRD when I search for it. Is it an eligible spell to use in the construction of my item?

My reading of the PRD restriction is that the mechanics of the item must be from the PRD, so no using some new mechanical rule from a non-PRD source, but, as Burst of Radiance uses universal mechanics from the PRD such as 'a reflex save' and 'the blinded condition' rather than something more out there, it should be fine. Burst of Radiance is not in the PRD, but is also not using non-PRD rules elements.

So yeah, just confirming whether or not all referenced spells/feats/etc that might be quoted during Construction Requirements need to be also listed in the PRD or not.

If it's not in the PRD, don't use it (with the aforementioned exception of Golarion flavor). End.

Huh. Okay. Well, I'm glad I asked in that case.
