Cheap Way to get Proficiency with a Single Martial Weapon?

Advice

Any easy ways to get proficient with a single martial weapon? For a Rogue. Don't wanna use the Swashbuckler archetype for reasons.

10,000 gp can get you an opalescent white pyramid ioun stone, but I don't know if that qualifies as "cheap" for you. (The flawed version gets you proficiency as well for 3000, but it comes with a penalty to Dexterity, which I'm assuming is not something you'd want on a rogue.)

Be a half elf

The Heirloom Weapon trait?

More specifically a half-elf with the Ancestral Arms racial trait.

Alternatively, see if you can locate a trait that grants proficiency in a martial weapon. I think there's at least one.

Eh, you end up investing as much resources as a Human who uses his bonus feat for the Martial Wep Proficiency feat.

The half elf still gets +2 to Perception, immunity to sleep, etc. out of the deal, so it's actually a net positive, I think.

Rogue? Be a Hobgoblin, take the FCB to reduce non-proficiency penalty, become fully proficient at level 4.

I wish, if I could play Hobbo I would enjoy a sweet +2 DEX/CON, darkvision and the Unfit trait for martial weapon proficiency.

This seems like what you want, really.

If the martial weapon is a bow, bracers of archery do the trick.

It's for TWF, so that would not allow me to have martial weapon proficiency with the two weapons.

The unchained rogue may be much improved, but I'm pretty sure TWF is still a horrible trap.

Scarab Sages

Be a half Orc, elf, or dwarf as well. All get proficency in useful weapons, as well as darkvision or immunites.

Its really not a trap, its actually one of the best rogue fighting styles with two weapon feint. You can even do it with no net penalty if you worship Pharasma.

I used to think it was a trap until I realized how important it was to net at LEAST one attack for Debilitating Injury.

Not using Feint though. there should be enough martials for me to get flanking.

Not half-orc for TWF - falchion and greataxe proficiency are just too big.

The dwarf and the elf would work, though admittedly only for particular weapons.

Scarab Sages

Tengu are proficient in all (edit: swordlike) blades, if you're looking for a sword or knife. Kukris are included. They get a bonus to Dex to help qualify for the TWF chain. The penalty to Con hurts, though.

Liberty's Edge

The obvious answer would have been Martial Weapon Proficiency (pick one). =p

Well, as a rogue, you already get four martial weapons: rapier, shortsword, shortbow, sap. So I'd suggest ... um ... being a rogue?

Grand Lodge

Kensai Magus, Int to AC, Weapon Focus as well as proficiency, and some spells (Hello Vanish and a few pearls of power 1)

Warpriest works too, if the weapon is a favored weapon of a diety.

What is the weapon, that may help us find a specific class or race.

If you told us what weapon it was then we would have a better idea of how to get it for you.

Oh it's the Light Pick.

It's no matter though, I've decided for daggers to exploit Deific Obidience for Pharasma.
