The Broken Age - [Homebrew Campaign] - [5 to 8 players needed.] - [Recruitment / Interest Check]

No preference for me. But you are right with the current submissions there is a lack of arcane casters. There really is only one in the current group in the campaign.

And yes, opposed to the escalating cost of normal point buy.

Hey folks, Party Wizard here. Just a heads up for all aspiring characters; We would appreciate if when creating your characters you would keep an eye on those already in the game and where their characters come from. As this is a RP heavy game background is just as important as current time. For example the human empires expansion was stopped at the Katharga Ridge, an immense cliff thousands of miles long that separated Brisal Desert from the Thurgan Plains to the south. They were stopped for 2 reasons:

1) The Brisal Desert is huge and his armies were not equipped to fight there.

2) There is a race of humanoids who live in the desert and are quite capable of repelling the humans because they are some of the most advanced magic users in the world.

The Illidari own the desert. They are a race of blue skinned extra planar immigrants who came here through a portal thousands of years ago when their world was destroyed and used their mastery of magic to carve a home out of the heart of the Brisal Desert. Their capital of New Alexandria is impossible to find unless you have the aid of an Illidari guide to take you through the hidden pathways in the deserts.

All of that is just the first example of how the PCs have begun to fill in the blank spots on the map of the DMs' homebrew world.

I think Pazeek is good in that regard. I did probably get a bit loose with what Vinsomner gave me to work with, admittedly, but it can be changed if need be.

I was a slave with you remember :P I just got lost.

Okay, so with any specific questions I have, I will be Pming those in question.

What I do want to mention, there is one thing I realized I might've conveyed yet, rumors of the slaves freeing themselves have not been around long enough for word to spread of this. In this affect there will be changes needing to be made on everyone's backgrounds, now that I had time to sit and carefully read everyone's submissions.

Chuthan please include the biography of your character into your character profile. It may need to be adjusted as your original probably wont fit with the current events. Your background can state that you've been with the group originally, and maybe wandered or gone a different path, but explain what your character has been doing since then.

Jaimie, please include your bio into your alias page. Also, can you be a bit more specific about how your character was freed. We can converse over PM's so I can give you a bit more details about how the band of current ex-slaves freed themselves and the slaves from a slave caravan being liberated.

Sam C. Can you adjust your background just moving to Freeport, and you didn't hear any rumors, just as you were traveling through the forest when the mythic wave hit you. Otherwise your background is great and I do appreciate you Pming me for particulars.

Toy, instead of hearing about the slaves being free, you can just even say you were walking through the forest and by sheer dumb luck you happened upon the group fighting the treant.

Serin, can you adjust your background so you were somehow enslaved when your character began seeking vengence. Can converse over PM to speak particulars, but you could've been freed when the current group liberated the slave caravan.

As you all are currently joining an in-progress campaign, you can take a peak at the current events, you can be particular about the events that have unfolded if you so wish to do so. This would help make your character fit better and have less of a jarring sensation when joining the campaign.

So I didn't catch this, and even GM Skull forgot about it. Everyone is actually Level 5 with Mythic 1. So everyone whos applying, can you go ahead and advance up to level 5?

Thanks

Okay, so for clarification. The first two applications that have been accepted are:

Pazeek and Toyer!

There are 1 to 2 slots left to fill.

Background updated for the time away.

dot.

Huh, that's way better than the overly convoluted version I came up with...also much better fit to Toyer's theme! I'll make that adjustment and add another level probably tomorrow. Also, thanks for the selection! Much appreciated!

Ok, still away from my PC and can't crunch numbers yet, but ideas are starting to come together:

Samsaran Magus (Arcane Archer) with the Mystic Past Life alternate trait.

Stats:
STR 14
DEX 18
CON 12 (14-2 racial)
INT 20 (18+2 racial)
WIS 10 (8+2 racial)
CHA 8
I'd like to argue for a FCB (Samsaran usually doesn't have one for Magus). Here is the Samsaran Wizard FCB:

Quote:
Wizard: Add one spell from the wizard spell list to the wizard's spellbook. This spell must be at least one level below the highest spell level the wizard can cast.

Can I have the same thing, but with Magus spells (since Magus is sort of a Fighter/Wizard anyway)? It'll only be cantrips (rare ones, I guess) for the first few levels, and I'm thinking of PrCing Arcane Archer, so I'll only ever have 10 levels of FCB. If you say no I'll take my hit point and be happy about it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Also, query about Mythic: do Mythic Tiers count as class levels? As a Magus 5/Archmage 1, if I cast a spell that lasts 1 minute/level, does it go for 5 or 6 minutes? That sort of thing. I'm guessing no, soli de mythic tiers don't seem to provide BAB or save progression and the like, but I want to be sure.

I can answer the Mythic thing: no. Mythic is tracked separately from class/character level.

Sam C is entirely correct. The mythic system is tracked completely separate from your character sheet.

My Background is Finished, and everything updated

Okay just to let everyone know. Tomorrow evening I'll most likely be selecting the last 1 or 2 applicants for the campaign! Thank you for your patience!

Also ouach sorry I missed your question but I'm fine with it. Go ahead! Sorry for missing the question before and possibly delaying your application.

Ok, here's Ouachitonian's submission. Fluff and Crunch in the profile. Hope I calculated everything right. As I mentioned before, I'm new to Mythic.

One detail I noticed is that you've added traits. The campaign rule for those is a little different. You don't start with any, but rather earn them through play. The first one, which everyone else has unlocked already, you'll need to collaborate with Vinsomner on, and it'll most likely be based on something noteworthy from your background. It could be a published trait, or a custom campaign trait.

Thought I'd mention that, in case those are key to your build, so you have time to plan around their lack if need be.

[facepalm] Whoops, not sure what I was thinking there. They can go, no big deal. I'll see to that shortly.

Edit: fixed.

Sooo I lied, got busy today haha... I will get to the final round of accepting tomorrow.

Recruitment is Closed

Thank you all for applying and spending your time on creating your characters. If more room opens up in the near future I will be sure to PM you before opening another round.

It was tough choosing from the pool that applied!

Thanks again!

Hi folks! Mr Vinsomner just told us you were in dire need of someone else to join your adventures and share your perils, so I came here to apply. But before that, I'd need two things:

a) To know where in the plot are you, I mean, knowing what's the situation to fit my PC to the story.

b) If any of you has a preference of alignment, class, race, etc. I see you've got pretty much everything covered, so it seems it's not a 'need' thing but a 'comfortable with' thing. If not, maybe I can replace your pally.

Thank you all in advance!

Alrighty, So I got you covered:

The brief synapses and tldr; version is they are a motley crew of escaped slaves, who ended up discovering a powerful stone that bequeathed unimaginable power to them. The world is in a current state of turmoil as a xenophobic king is laying waste to the world. Many lives have been lost, mostly npc's but a few players as well. The players, after escaping their imprisonment and destroying a fort in the process (while meeting a sassy dragon), liberated a slave caravan and ran into the near forests, venturing far enough to find ruins of an ancient city. This is where they set up camp on the outskirts of the ruins and are currently venturing in, trying to secure a forge or anything that would assist them in their efforts.

Where your character would come in, is that there is already a bunch of liberated dwarves in the camp, you would more then likely come from there, knowing the party enough. I have a few ideas to spin off on, but that was the first. What you can do is focus on the background of your character, reference the map and create a story of their origins and how they became a slave. Up to the point of becoming a slave we can work on a few things together to figure out how best to proceed and fit you into the world.

So they did lose a AC front liner with some additional healing. Breewyn is a primary healer for the group as an oracle.

This campaign is open to third parties, but I will rule out psionics for now. I did allow them earlier but I think I want to stay away from that for now.

You want to level up to 5, Mythic 1. Traits are assigned by me. You get 1 trait to start off with, you may let me pick that one, or pick it out yourself that fits your characters background.

Starting gold is 1k. This is dependent on what we decide to do for your inclusion.

Anyone else have anything to tack on that I may be missing?

EDIT: If you dont want to play a dwarf and want to do something else, your free to change and create a race. The rules of such can be found on the first post of this thread.

Masterfully done.

What do you want to play, Jer? Personally, I just want people who will play the game with us and have fun. I've really enjoyed this one, and I know others in the group have as well. We've had some good hijinks so far, and I'd like to see them continue.

Hi there! I'm also coming from the other game recruitment. I will read up on character creation and campaign info this evening and noodle some ideas.

@Vinsomner: Don't forget that you allowed pre-game crafting, if the relevant feats/skills were taken, to stretch that 1k starting fund a little further.

Thank you Pazeek for pointing that out. I did forget about it.

I'm at work, and I haven't played with a mythic warrior-type, and designing a custom race is intriguing. I will think about an appropriate build. ;)

I'll work on it, though I won't probably be a dwarf - having the opportunity to tune a custom race is quite tempting.

dot. I think I'll use a different character to submit if I do submit.

would you allow the occultist class? Thinking front-liner with some casting support.

The first post in this thread notes that all uncommon races are acceptable. Does... Does that include the Strix? Because that would be a little crazy. The good kind of crazy. :)

TheOrcnextdoor: I think the occultist falls under Psionics, which i'm not allowing as of right now.

Tanner Nielsen: Yes, yes you can make a Strix. They are fun to play with quite honestly! :)

Primary, make that only. Lol, but seriously anything to help share the burden, even a lesser caster would welcome, since I didn't build primarily as a healer and have been doing my best to keep them up.

Haha oops, yeah, only healer. My bad Bree :) Keeping the team aloft!

Breaking my shoulders... *huffs, pouting*

Such a huge weight on such tiny shoulders

How many new PC's are you needing and how long will the recruitment be open for?

I may actually be recruiting about 2-3 more. I just ran through the plans... they are going to need the additional help!

how do you guys feel about an unchained monk?

I'm actually thinking of going as a human monk, who is disgusted with the atrocities the king and the other men of the world are/have committed. He was imprisoned for life as a traitor along with several others from his temple.

Would this work? Or would any human be "killed on sight"

Well there were a few humans in the past, the one that actually was removed was a human paladin. There was general distrust, much like Mara, a human cleric early on.

So again, it would be interesting strife, but there are some humans who disagree with the king and have either been imprisoned, fled, or put to the sword. I believe monks would definitely be given more lenient sentences (life in prison) then most others.

Life in prison means nothing to a monk, it's just extended meditation and isolation :P

I think I'll go down this idea then. Any temples/orders in your world that would focus on a more physical martial arts he could have been a part off?

mechanic wise, he would be a damage dealer/slight control/tank

Now the temples/orders you have free reign to create as you desire. The world is vast and I welcome you to create part of its lore with your character. SO if you have an idea for the monks order/temples go for it. It may actually come up in the campaign as the group travels.

Fantastic.

Halls of Tugrin:

-Thomen!!!

Thomen heard the mine foreman's shouts and put his head down. It was the third time that day that he made a mistake.

The mines were not for him. Actually, working was not for him. All he could do is dream about the future... a future that he had seen in dreams.

-Thomen! Where's yer pick?!

-[b]I.. it's... er... I don't...

Of course, Thomen had forgotten the pick at home. Again.

Later, at home, he would go back to his daydreaming. Thomen had dreams of a life out of the city, free of work and full of adventure. He was going to be part of a very important group of adventurers, and help them achieve a very important victory against evil. One day, that was going to happen...

-Thomen, my dear... how was your day at work?

-Oh, um... fine, fine...

Thomen barely spoke of his dreams those days. Before, he had told about them to his family and friends, and all he got back was a good share of laughter and his monicker, "The Omen". He had decided he'd fulfill his dreams... whenever... without telling anyone.

Fleeing the Halls:

The Xenophobic King. He called himself the High King, but it changed nothing. He was expanding, breaking treaties and attacking allies. He had bested the armies of Tugrin, and now the rest of the citizens had to flee their ancestral homes. Mothers were crying, old men were lamenting. Everyone was taking what they could carry and leaving.

Thomen was trying to find his family among all the chaos. The avalanche of people made it very difficult, and in the end he ended with a group of dwarves he didn't know.

-Have you seen my family? Has anyone seen my little baby? My father, where is he?- Those were questions everybody asked - they were all lost like Thomen, and frightened of what could happen to them and their families. They weren't fighters, but artisans and workers, and were at the mercy of the human armies when they arrived to sack the city.

Then Thomen saw it clear. This was it, the beginning of his adventure! All of this was a trial!

-Dwarves! Follow me, I'll guide you to safety and protect you!

Thomen couldn't believe those words came out of his mouth. It seemed the others couldn't believe it too, since they looked amazed and confused.

-Wait, aren't you "The Omen"? You are going to protect us? You can't barely remember to take your tools to work!

So reality punched Thomen in the face once again. Of course, they considered him a youngling and a weakling, why would they believe him and trust him now?

But then the first human patrols came, and reality punched the other dwarves in the face. When in dire need, Thomen really behaved. He showed surprising bravery, and quickly learned the basic tricks of fighting. At first, they all thought it was pure luck, but every time they fought a group of humans Thomen was more and more confident, and he even displayed some abilities that no dwarf known before had.

Slaves:

The group of dwarves managed to flee the city, and they roamed through the land for quite a while, searching for a place to settle. They avoided the humans when possible, and fought when forced to, with Thomen showing an incredible capacity to keep his companions safe.

Sadly, though Thomen had a small knowledge of natural environments, his capabilities were quite limited, and a series of poor choices ended up with the group surrounded. They were captured and made slaves, taken to a slave camp far away their homelands.

The cruelty of their captors seemed to have no limits, especially their officer in charge, who enjoyed playing games with the slaves like "test your stamina" and "where's the food". Prisoners were tested by fighting between themselves or against the guardians, being deprived of food and drink for many days, and many other tortures which the officer's twisted mind created to fulfill his cruelty. Many slaves died in those activities, including some of the dwarves that came with Thomen.

He was about to lose hope when a group of adventurers raided the slave camp and liberated them. Thomen realised this was part of his fate, and quickly asked them to join the group. He wasn't a steady worker, and he wasn't quite the smart or cool guy, but he was stubborn and difficult to kill, and could offer some nice and new capabilities to the group. He firmly believed this is where he had to be.

-Hello. I'm Thomen, "The Omen".

Thomen:

Thomen is a blond and blue-eyed dwarf. He is quite agile and not as tough as the average dwarf, though surprisingly strong given most of his life he's avoided training and physical exercise.

Thomen has focusing problems, and sometimes he just spends minutes looking into the emptiness. From a young age, he's had these episodes of vagueness, and due to it he has never been successful in dwarven society. He has a good heart, though, and an easy laugh. Most would say he is a bit simple, although things are a bit more complex than that (pun intended).

Thomen's family mixed, somewhere in the near past, with a fae. The result is Thomen, which has mixed blood and possesses a physiognomy and a mind which works differently than any other dwarf (at least known to him, though it is possible that such a mix may have spawned anywhere else).

Thomen has had prophetic dreams since a young age, dreams about his future. This, together with the chaotic mind inherited from his fae blood, is what makes him appear chaotic and unfocused. When in combat, though, Thomen turns into a serious and capable fighter, willing to protect those in need and to fight the unfair and the evil, such as this Xenophobic King.

Some fluff there for you to read and tell me about changes to fit the campaign. Meanwhile, going for the crunch (Thomen is going to be a Paladin).

I think I'm mostly done (it took me till 5am) :P

Gear and Mythic stuff might be subject to change, as I can't control my brain 100% now. Fluff and race are also subject to change depending on your approval. I go to bed now.

Darn work... always getting in the way of the important things. I'm going to be making a Staff Magus.

Heres the submission, awaiting changes if needed.

Good friends call me Zaven, but, no one really calls me that anymore.

Here is the character for Tanner Nielsen. Work has been slamming me. I should be finished this weekend, but wanted to post my progress to show that I'm still very interested in this game.
