Advice

Hey there! I'm building a fourth level character, Paizo only, and I'm intrigued by the idea of a Variant Channeling Ifrit Theologian Cleric of Brigh, taking a single level dip into Crossblood sorcerer (Orc/Red Dragon) and using Magical Knack to get my CL in my cleric up.

1) Can these all work together?
2) What damage is his negative energy fire channeling doing?
3) How does this compare to a fire based blasting sorcerer?

Thanks!

My biggest item is number one. If anyone can help with that, I'd really appreciate it.

I can't speak to the channeling stuff, but I will say this. The theologian gets something nothing else to my knowledge does: permanent free metamagic, which will work in addition to your metamagic reduction traits. At high levels, this means the Cleric can technically push a blast further than any other class in the game. Unfortunately, the most sought after metamagic on the Domain Secret list, Intensify, won't be relevant to the Cleric until late into his career, assuming you are looking at fireball. Focused spell makes an OK runner up in the meantime. The cleric also doesn't get the free feats a wizard or Sorcerer does, which hurts how long it takes to come into it's own.

That said, you are getting the following:

--Better HD
--Better saves. Significantly better if you have good CHA and take Divine Protection.
--No spell failure, allowing full casting in armor.
--Ability to switch it up to melee combat.
--Access to the divine list, which can be really important in some games if the party lacks it.

So you'll probably be slower to grow than the sorcerer (who is still inferior to the wizard) but you'll be way sturdier throughout your career and may eventually be able to catch up and surpass the Sorc.

The thing about blasters is the ideal way to build them seems to be incredibly dependent on your level. Make sure you think about what level you are playing to and how long it will take to get there.

Thank you!

Negative Energy (Fire) does your full channel energy dice for cleric levels, halved because of variant channeling, with a will save to avoid catching fire (but no save for quarter damage). Catching fire does 1d6 right away, and a further 1d6 every round thereafter as long as the burner continues to fail DC 15 ref saves. It's very nasty at low levels.

That does sound pretty slick. Thanks!
