Characters destined for their role

Liberty's Edge

So I was in work today and I was served a coffee by a girl I later found out was named Sara Mocha (true). It got me thinking that she is probably the person most destined, based on her name, for the job that she eventually found herself in that I have ever met.

I was wondering if anyone had any characters who were similarly destined for their eventual race/party role or conversely came out as the exact opposite of their birth name.

Post 'em here!

Hmmm, in real life I have a friend named Supreme Master (seriously, I saw his drivers license!). I think it works out well for him, although I wonder if he worries about living up to his name. Apparently, his father had the same name, so I guess it might take a few generations to achieve total supreme mastery...

EDIT: Yup, he was Supreme Master Jr.

Lol, what??

That guy should be the head of HYDRA or something. Although technically isn't he Supreme Master Jr?

I had a dwarf character once named Karnak Giant-Smasher who laboured in a homebrew game with absolutely no giants until level 4 when he one-shotted a troll BBEG with a greataxe crit. Sure the sorcerer had to finish it off with a Flaming Sphere to make sure it didn't regenerate but no one is gonna sing a song about that

Then again, sometimes things don't quite work out.

Elminster: "How about the Order of the Dragonslayers?"

Lhaeo: "Dead."

Elminster: "Dead? What happened?"

Lhaeo: "They met their first dragon.

I've always thought that in medievil times, like the times we all assume it is in D&D/PF, people's names were taken from their role in life, not the other way around. Like the blacksmith wasn't named Smith until after he became a blacksmith. The idea of "family names" came later, and only then did people's names STOP matching their lot in life.

Pretty much all of my characters have names that match their role, but I've always figured that their descriptive names were given to them after their role became clear. For example, I'm currently playing a dhampyr cleric of Abadar whose repressed fixation on blood and devout faith in the God of Wealth has resulted in her becoming fixated on gold and precious gems. Her name is Gabriella Blood-Money.

I also get inordinate pleasure out of making high-Dex characters good at Acrobatics AND lockpicking, and then nicknaming them "Tumblers".
