The series itself was camp. Think 1960's Batman crossed with Get Smart.
This looks promising.
Can't... Restrain... Inner espionage fiction nerd...
The show had 5 or 6 different showrunners throughout its 4 season run, and each one took it in a vastly different direction. The first season actually owes a lot of it's style to both Hitchcock and Fleming. There's a lot of North by Northwest in the first season, with regular people getting caught up in the world of international espionage.
Season 2 started to get a bit camp, and had some very odd episodes, but still played it relatively straight. Season 3 is where it went full blown spoof/slapstick parody, they were trying to emulate the success of the Adam West Batman show style. It nearly killed the show there and then, so they pulled it right back for season 4, but the damage was already done and it got canned mid-season. The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. probably didn't help either, it was so unpopular it got canned during season 1, and is considered by many to be a contributing factor the the cancellation of original show. Unfortunately the really camp third season is what pretty much everyone remembers about the show.
The film looks like it's taking far more cues from the early part of it. So that combined with Guy Ritchie has me interested.
