Core Campaign Survey

Since the Core Campaign started, I have come to enjoy playing the new format so much that our weekly game night at the local store basically runs all Core. It's giving a chance for new players a place to begin and old players a place to come back to. I think it is an excellent recruitment tool (for the ease of play) and a chance to revisit the older storylines for the established players. So, after giving it some time to develop, I decided to gather a little information about what players are playing (races, classes, feats, etc.) and write my next article discussing my findings.

Please take a moment to take this SURVEY on your Core Characters. It's on Survey Monkey so I don't get any of your info and it's free for me to poll other players. I already surveyed my local lodge, but I want more responses. The more I get, the better the picture I get from the survey and the better the article.

Thank you so much!

Do you have a version of this survey for non-Core, and have you noticed much of a difference in the responses?

When I was allowed to type my answers, I felt the need to clarify that any choices I made in Core were no different from non-Core.

Also, I feel that some answers will simply vary depending on if the player is more martial- or caster-focused, or middle of the road. Since Core hasn't been around as long, I don't have the same number of characters in each Campaign, so I've had to be selective in what I've made thus far, but I intend to eventually make one of each class and race.

I'm probably one of few that plays more martials than casters, and who has yet to make a Core Wizard, and yet I selected Intelligence as my most important attribute =P

Whoops, sorry! I closed it so I could cull through the data... I'll have results in about a week.

Okay, here's the article. I almost forgot to post it here. Let me know what you think!

Interesting stuff Akitayne.

How does the information in the survey compare to classic play? It seems that some of the points brought up would also apply to the classic campaign (such as why perception and toughness are so popular).

Thanks for putting all of that together.

Thanks!

Nefreet mentioned a survey for classic play, too. I guess I'll need to do that!

From my observations I've always noticed players that want that 'big-bang' character; a character that is made of several types of cheeses or overly specialized. The Society needs well-rounded characters, often filling multiple roles at the table because you never know who will be at your table!

So, I think a survey is in order. Just give me a little time to get one up...

Now that I have a few core games under my belt (about half are GM credit), I think I have a little bit of insight about core skills. With the reduction of available languages (I believe it's restricted to just the core races), Linguistics becomes even more important.

I played in a core game recently where notes were written in Osirion. The GM asked if any of us had the language and when none of us said we did, I mentioned that I didn't believe it was available in core. He did some quick research and confirmed it and agreed that we were just SOL. My character and another had linguistics but we didn't roll high enough to get anything.

So Akitayne, I would like to add that as a skill that has increased importance in Core games.

Take a look at this blog post; Osiriani is legal in Core (although I believe Ancient Osiriani can't be learnt as a bonus language, the same as the normal campaign).

Paz, thanks so much! This post makes things a lot easier. I don't know how I missed it. Thanks again.
