Phylactery of Positive Channeling helping with Channeled Revival?

Channeled Revival
Prerequisite: Channel energy 6d6 (positive energy).

A lot of people say that yes the Phylactery helps qualify after you have worn it for 24 hours. But where is that rule? It isn't the same as a permanent stat boost via items helping to qualify for a feat.

Sczarni

The prerequisite is the ability to Channel for 6d6.

If you Channel for 6d6, you qualify.

Some of my local GMs disagree saying that the item does not help qualify. There is no FAQ explicitly allowing it.

If you have 11 Strength and you get a Belt of Giant Strength +2, do you qualify for Power Attack?

The answer is the same.

Phylactery of Positive Channeling

Description

This item allows channelers of positive energy to increase the amount of damage dealt to undead creatures by +2d6. This also increases the amount of damage healed by living creatures.

Hmmm. It doesn't increase your channeling ability. It increase the damage dealt to undead by 2d6 and the hp cured to living creatures by 2d6.

So it isn't "answer is the same" when comparing it to stat increasing items.

It is like saying "Muleback Cords allow you to treat your Strength score as 8 higher than normal when determining your carrying capacity so they allow you to qualify for power attack".

If the text item was "item allows channelers of positive energy to add 2d6 to the amount of their channeling" it would work, but as written it work only for 2 specific uses of positive channeling, not for all the other possible uses of it.

What other possible uses are there for Channeled Energy?

Variant channeling

It seem we have a whole page here.

beside that we have a few example of other uses of channeling in the rulebooks. I recall a passage about "a lock that open when you channel xd6 of positive energy". For that use the phylactery wouldn't work.

Edit:
Turn undead feat

Elemental Channel to harm living creatures

Alignment Channel to harm living creatures

Bless Equipment feat which also goes off of dice.

... also:

Channeling Force Feat
Greater Channel Smite Feat
Energy Channel Feat
Vindicator's Shield CLA

...etc (I seem to remember there were a lot of channel-based Feats in the Inner Sea Gods book that might also apply).

Those abilities and feats modify how Channel Energy works.

But the base chassis is still just "Harm Undead" and "Heal Living".

You can generally use equipment to qualify for feats and the like, and I was about to agree that this would work...

but as others have pointed out, it doesn't appear that the item actually improved your base Channel Ability, and merely increases its effectiveness in two specific situations.

Thus, while it'd probably be reasonably to let this work in a home game, it looks like it technically doesn't work.

This looks like a genuine ambiguity in the rules to me. When these items were written in the CRB, the only uses for channels were harming and healing, and no feats required a particular number of channel dice. However, even then with the alignment and elemental channels it doesn't seem clear whether you could do more damage or healing with these items.

FAQ proposal question:

Do the phylacteries of positive/negative channeling actually change your number of channel dice for the purposes of Variant Channeling and feat prerequisites, and do they increase the damage or healing done by using feats like Elemental Channel or Alignment Channel?

Hit FAQ if you think it deserves a look. Ignore if you love eating dirty underwear. ;)

Another problem is that all of the verbiage for "permanent bonuses after 24 hours" refer to ability scores, so even if this did increase your channel it is questionable if it will ever qualify you for anything since there is no precedent for any item that does not affect an ability score.

It does not consistently increase your channeling ability the way a stat belt increases your strength, It doesn't make your 8d6 channeling ability a 9d6 ability, it just adds 1d6 to an 8d6 ability, a set number of times a day.

If by set amount you mean unlimited and by 1d6 you mean 2d6..
