@Hama
Have you ever met a "Faerie" Dragon?

So Mass Effect franchise to be put on hold.

Sovereign Court

I've decided to put Bioware/EA on hold for awhile.

I hope the complainers enjoy their phyrric victory. We aren't seeing another mass effect game for years upon years.

I'm surprised the game came out as finished as it was. As soon as EA/Bioware got the Star Wars license back I expected this series to be shelved. It should be just a matter of time now till they announce a new Star Wars action RPG, maybe even a KOTOR 3.

Which is a good thing in my books.

For once I gotta agree with Hama. ME:A isnt a terrible game, but it lacks a single remarkable moment, feature, or innovation. ME:A isnt on par with the original ME titles and if this is the new standard then maybe its for the best.

IMO, they should have a DLC that wraps up the whole sequel hook at the end of the game and then end things with a 'Things will be tough, but we now have hope for the future.' deal. People can now concentrate on starting a new colony and that is a good place to leave off.

This is true. It seems from my perspective that it was trying to be all three of the previous Mass Effect games at the same time as well as trying to be Dragon Age: Inquisition IN SPAAAAAAAAACE!

Plus, from what others have indicated, BioWare's writing's gotten lazier and more casually racist and sexist and transphobic as they've gotten more famous.

Most of the creative staff who put out the original Mass Effect and DAO , not to mention the Bioware founders, were mostly gone before this turkey even got started. The game development was badly managed, with several creative directors coming and going, and the decision to push out when they did to help Q1 quarterly sales was just idiotic. By opting to save on quality control beforehand, and letting the paying customer do their work for them, they hurt their longer term sales.

I know there must be other pressures I just am not aware of, because otherwise I just can't understand the mentality at work. You sink 5 years and god knows how many millions into this thing, and then you decide to put out an unpolished product.

One theory my friends have pondered is that the Montreal office sandbagged EA head office and only showed them choice bits of the game..no one really saw how it was going to fit together. This makes sense because the staff at the Montreal office were known as experienced in first person shooters and action elements..but not known for any significant creative skills. and that shows in the strengths of the game and also its weaknesses.

strange. I had heard that the transphobic and racially bigoted hated the "shoehorning" of such characters into the game. But I haven't played it yet. I look forward to purchasing it, mind.

Strange indeed. Not sure where the "sexist, transphobic" stuff is coming from.

Andromeda's Various Failures in this Aspect:
Because a minor character, Hainly Abrams, casually mentions her deadname in conversation, something that a lot of trans players felt was disrespectful. And as far as BioWare is concerned, Abrams may as well be the ONLY trans person in the entire game.

There's the male-male romance with Gil, where a major source of the arc's tension comes from Gil's sexuality "preventing him from doing his civic duty to reproduce" an INCREDIBLY heteronormative plot line that Gil just GOES ALONG WITH without protest, including if Ryder DOESN'T romance him, which has understandably put off gay male players, especially since Gil is one of their ONLY romantic options in the game.

There's also the fact that apart from Reyes Vidal, who is not a squadmate, all the bi romances are aliens, which sends implications that bisexual people ARE alien in some way, and even then most of those romances are with bi women.

And as far as racial stuff goes, there's the story on Kadara, with the Hispanic character Reyes Vidal is a sleazy, dishonest schemer while Sloane Kelly, one of Andromeda's only black women, is a violent and rude thug and the game expects you to shed no tears for Vidal shooting her in the back. The other two major black people in the game are August Bradley, who has basically all the personality of a two-by-four and is Anderson-Lite, and Liam whose dialogue was written by a white guy and depictsprot him as an overly-emotional incompetent goofball, much like a minstrel show character. And apart from these characters, you see virtually NO other people of color, especially Asian, Native American/First Nation or Roma, which carries some rather nasty implications.

And finally the sexist angle. In addition to the fanservicey portrayal of the asari that's plagued Mass Effect from the very beginning, there's the fact that the game all but encourages you to betray Sloane Kelly and let her get assassinated because she's just been so rude to you in every interaction you have with her, and her leadership is generally depicted as worse for everyone when compared with Vidal's. And then there's that god-awful outfit they put in with the latest patch. On a male Ryder it is a Blasto! tank top,
But on a FEMALE Ryder? It's barely an apron, with Ryder's bra clearly visible. The patches have also constantly been tweaking the default female Ryder's appearance to be more attractive, which caters more to guy players wanting a hot avatar as opposed to girl players getting the chance to make a character that reflects them.

So in summation, Andromeda's problems have largely been that the attempts to diversify the game's characters have been clumsily handled and largely written by straight/white/cis dudes, which has resulted in the stereotypes you usually see coming from lazy writing. It's diversity trying to meet some imaginary quota or pass some imaginary test, and that NEVER works out well.

Hmmm....

I'm going to have to take a closer look at this.

Quick question regarding the guns: As far as the "grenade launchers disguised as guns" go, how do the Falcon assault rifle, Scorpion pistol, and Venom shotgun compare to one another?

Sovereign Court

No idea, I just used sidewinder pistol and biotics on my one playthrough. If I did play it again it would be to try new weapons.

Yeah I only did Biotics and almost never used my weapons...

I'm not gonna do another playthrough though, wasn't good enough and I'm pretty hooked on Stellaris atm.

Falcon arcs and acts like a grenade launcher. The projectile goes off on a direct hit and has a cook off if it doesn't, has a slight bounce off surfaces.

Scorpion is a sticky grenade. Fires more like a traditional pistol the projectile sticks and explodes later.

I haven't used the venom.

I have a PAW that does plasma explosions and the energy smg as a sticky grenade and it's funny but honestly once you have the mods there is little reason to use non-energy weapons.

Finally giving this game a try!

Sovereign Court

I tried a replay a few months ago, couldn't do it.

Scarab Sages

Played all the way through, doing pretty much every side quest. Had a blast. I guess it must have been pretty buggy at launch, but the version I played didn't have problems and was a great game.

Having fun so far.

But the dialogue is a bit quippy.

That's from what I like to call The Whedon Effect.

I still think it’s worth playing if you’re a Mass Effect fan. Not worth playing twice, though.

Can’t wait to hear what you think!

Yeah. Never played a BioWare character as uncharismatic as Ryder.

Honestly, when I finished it i just felt really saddened at the wasted potential this game had.

Awful. Absolutely awful. And much of the other dialogue isn't much better. None of the characters grabbed me at all and many did exactly the opposite.

I couldn't even finish it, and I've probably played through the trilogy to 100% completion four or five times.

The dialog quality is reflective of many behind the scenes issues behind the development of this game. The main one being that Bioware Montreal (since closed) experience was primarily with shooters and action games, so the party combat side got good technical marks, but in terms of the story writing and dialog..not so much. And it didn't help they had at least two creative directors on this project leave during the 5 years it was being developed.

Im liking vetra, and the ships crew thus far. Really like the run and jump aspect of the game. Fun so far.

Well, this first contact went better than the first one. Not sure why the crew is being an ass to the new guy, but I guess I see a problem with changing the mission to do a recon job for a member of a race we met 20 minutes ago.
