@Jason - thanks for the reply.
So, if I were to pledge for the first two parts at the $40 pledge tier, how much would shipping be then?
And those two parts are the prequel (Assimilation Strain) and the first adventure (To Worlds Unknown)?
Yes, those are the two adventures for that level. Shipping for those two softcovers to AUS is $20.

If you like playing more than one game, or might like to pick up some other great books to go with your Legendary Planet adventure path, check out new pledge levels and add-on pledges in the latest update for Legendary Planet!
Plus a very cool working sketch of the bestest alien cantina in Zel-Argose!

On the previous update - the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons of the 90's and up featured a ubiquitous enemy alien race called variously the Krang. I'm also not personally a fan of the look of your Krang, nor would I welcome seeing them spread throughout the AP. Fortunately, apart from that, I've liked most of the other art...
On this update - Balixa as a "new" artist? New to you guys perhaps, but not RPGs - he illustrated the original Dark Sun campaign setting with Brom at least....I'm sure you guys remember that... ;)

Hey, if it's not Shredder, Rock Steady, and Bebop, I refuse to acknowledge their existence!

Hey, you can't bat 1.000 with everybody. I'm glad you've liked most of the others, and we'll see whether you like the final rendered version of the krang more than the concept sketch.

Oh yes, he's only new *to us*. I was very happy to get Bruno on board. Any thematic resemblance to Dark Sun is at least partially intentional. :)

Now, this is me not knowing what some terms mean, but what EXACTLY is meant by Sword and Planet?
From wikipedia...
The genre predates the mainstream popularity of science fiction proper, and does not necessarily feature any scientific rigor, being instead romantic tales of high adventure. For example little thought is given to explaining why the environment of the alien planet is compatible with life from Earth, just that it does in order to allow the hero to move about and interact with the natives. Native technology will often break the known laws of physics.
The genre tag "Sword and planet" is constructed to mimic the terms sword and sorcery and sword and sandal. The phrase appears to have first been coined in the 1960s by Donald A. Wollheim, editor of Ace Books, and later of DAW Books at a time when the genre was undergoing a revival. Both Ace Books and DAW Books were instrumental in bringing much of the earlier pulp Sword and Planet stories back into print, as well as publishing a great deal of new, imitative work by a new generation of authors.
There is a fair amount of overlap between Sword and planet and planetary romance although some works are considered to belong to one and not the other. In general, planetary romance is considered to be more of a space opera subgenre, influenced by the likes of A Princess of Mars yet more modern and technologically savvy, while Sword & Planet more directly imitates the conventions established by Burroughs in the Mars series. That is to say that the hero is alone as the only human being from Earth, swords are the weapon of choice, and while the alien planet has some advanced technology, it is used only in limited applications to advance the plot or increase the grandeur of the setting. In general the alien planet will seem to be more medieval and primitive than Earth. This leads to anachronistic situations such as flying ships held aloft by anti-gravity technology, while ground travel is done by riding domesticated native animals.

I read that description, but it still doesn't really help me.
Is this Legendary Planet a fantasy setting like D&D and Pathfinder? Is it more Stargate? Star Wars?
Basically, would I be running around with sword and board or a laser pistol?
| Chemlak |
More sword and board than sword and laser.
I believe there will be some high-tech elements, but for the most part you will be walking or riding an animal, not hopping on a hovercar. You will fire arrows, not shoot lasers or guided missiles. You will cast spells for healing, not use a nano-reconstructor.
Whilst the species you encounter will be alien and bizarre, they will be fighters, rogues, wizards and clerics, not pilots and engineers.
There's a bit of Stargate in terms of how you move from world to world, but the worlds will be a mish-mash of fantasy and alien.

The great thing about Sword and Planet settings is that you can do both or neither. It's up to the players and the GM as to how far they want to push the technology. Cross-genre stories like Krull, John Carter of Mars, Wizards, and Hellboy (less Sword & PLanet and more magic & tech) come to mind.

We love to announce someone very special who'll be dropping in on the Legendary Planet Kickstarter now that we've passed 250 backers - check out the latest update and raise a glass to Mr. Erik Mona!
| Brother Fen |
This update blew me away. I can't believe you guys got Erik Mona to write fiction for you. I can only imagine a slight homage to Expedition to Barrier Peaks in there but that's just because the gremlins in my mind have to fill in the blanks. I'm sure it will be completely different and awesome in every way.

From the Department of Expectation Management: Erik's writing the introduction to the Adventure Path, which is very different from writing fiction. Not that we'd be averse to Erik trying his hand at some sword-and-planet fiction, of course. ;)

What Neil said. The marvelously talented Chris A. Jackson will be writing our fiction stories for the AP. Erik will be writing the foreword/introduction to the compilation, though I'm sure he'll reference some of his favorite planetary fiction.

Backed, though not due to the Sasquatch addition -I've been hoping to be able to back this and due to this being a longer KS, I had the time to make it happen. ^^
Glad to hear it, Thilo! Much like with the Mythic Mania Kickstarter, that was very much intentional. We knew our pledge points were higher than for most Kickstarters, so we wanted to push early before the Kickstarter to get folks ready and also stretch out the opportunity for people to hop on board. Welcome to the galaxy!

Then I will answer with a resounding 'yes' - we are planning on it, as well as other "AP Plug-Ins" for our own AP. How soon we are able to get the work done will depend on people's schedules as we focus on the core adventures and articles first.

What are the chances of this getting a Paizo push via a Lisa mail? :-)
We just got a shout-out on the Paizo main store blog, so we certainly appreciate that promotional push from the golem gang. I can certainly drop Lisa a line and ask, but the weeks running up to GenCon are pretty busy so I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

As we stand on the cusp of unlocking our next adventure, author Steve Helt wants to talk to YOU about the Depths of Desperation! If you head over to our Facebook event, you can ask him a question about the adventure and every day he'll answer!
With now exactly two weeks left in our Kickstarter project, we wanted to fan the flames a bit by revealing some of the awesome stretch goals we have coming for you! Some are based on dollars, of course, but some are based on the total number of backers, regardless of total dollars. Without further ado, let us begin with today's new goal:
300 backers: We are creating a Legendary Planet Player's Guide! With information on character classes and races in the Legendary Worlds setting, as well as insights on religion and equipment, this resource will be invaluable with your players. Written by the Legendary team of Neil Spicer, Alex Augunas, and Will McCardell, the Player's Guide will be going on sale when it's ready, but if we hit 300 backers then all Kickstarter backers $15 and above get the Player's Guide FREE!
Tomorrow, we'll start talking about some of the special guest authors we have lined up for our bonus articles in the AP. We've already got Sean K Reynolds, Erik Mona, Chris A. Jackson, and the Sasquatch Design Studio of Rich Baker, Dave Noonan, and Stephen Schubert on the project, but we've got even more terrific folks on tap ready to bring the awesome to Legendary Planet! Continue to spread the word and let's get this project climbing towards a fantastic finish!
Speaking of finished, by the way, we are also delighted to report that the final tweaks are being made to the layout in The Assimilation Strain prequel, and we'll be sending it off to print today so we'll have it in time for GenCon at booth 2639!
Lastly, I just wanted to share a magnificent bit of artwork from our dear friend Michal Matczak, depicting one of the most harrowing encounters you're likely to face in the desperate breakout that begins To Worlds Unknown!

I am posting about this kickstarter on some 5E sites. While the PF version may be the main focus, the opportunities this opens up for 5E cannot be overstated.
5E is a year old and we have the core rulebooks and two straight fantasy adventure paths. Plus the Frog and Goodman adventures and extras. This adventure path is just what 5E needs: new exciting content.

@Charlie D. - That's what we were thinking as well. The flow of adventures has been measured and careful with 5E, and I can respect that design decision, but you correctly point out that it has all been right down Main Street as far as being core fantasy. We've been talking it up in the 5E communities on ENWorld, rpg.net, and Facebook, but by all means keep spreading the word there and elsewhere.
Aaaaaannd, like a dummy, I suddenly smack myself upside the head, because I totally spaced out and forgot to talk up the 5th Ed community RIGHT HERE AT PAIZO.COM! Looks like I'm off to post over there!

This just keeps getting more exciting!! I will probably start using more exclamation points than Stan Lee!!!!!
Jason, what is the price tag on that spiffy hard copy of The Assimilation Strain? I can't wait to see you folks at Gen Con and pick it up!!!!!!!!
If you've backed at a pledge level that gets a copy of the softcover, just print out a copy of your pledge (or show us on your device) and you can come by and pick up your copy in person. If you didn't back for a softcover, the street price is 14.99 for the 42-page adventure (PF version - 5E version should be finished in layout by this weekend so we'll see what the final length is on that).

Just posted this over in 5th Edition land, but I figured it might be a useful recap to post in this thread as well, since we just crossed the 600% funding level and funded The Depths of Desperation so...
Legendary Planet is a kickstarter adventure path from Legendary Games. A 5E version is being created.
Although PF seems to get most of the attention, I am most excited about the 5E version. We have very little new options for 5E and this adventure path will open up the game quite a bit.
Thanks for the shout-out, Charlie! The Legendary Planet AP just crossed the 600% funding mark and unlocked the fifth full adventure in the saga, in addition to a 42-page prelude adventure!
The core concept of Legendary Planet is that it is a "sword and planet" adventure path, the kind of interplanetary fiction best exemplified by Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom novels featuring John Carter, Dejah Thoris, Tars Tarkas, etc., though pulling in elements of other visionary authors from pulp fantasy and sci-fi from Jack Vance to Flash Gordon to Heavy Metal magazine. At its heart, this is still a fantasy story, through playing with many of the tropes of sci-fi. Technology exists alongside magic, and high-tech is similar in rarity to permanent magic items, but the focus is on the exotic planets themselves. There are no starships or hyperdrive, and you'll be packing your sword alongside your needler pistol or blaster as you ride your alien steed in search of a stargate that might take you to a distant system.
We have an impressive lineup of contributors on this project, all of them veteran adventure-writers as well as a team of experts in both 5th Edition and Pathfinder who are working to make sure that the play experience is equally dynamic in either system.
We think this AP offers a great opportunity to open up the possibilities of 5th Edition to new styles of adventure beyond traditional fantasy, while still embracing the roots of the game. D&D has a long history of crossover with sci-fi and technology, all the way back to 1st Edition and even before it with Dave Arneson's Blackmoor setting, and we think this is going to be a fantastic addition to the newest edition of the game. We have an experienced team that has a history of delivering Kickstarters on time (or early) with awesome content, so you can be confident that we will do the same here!
One more thing: This isn't a Kickstarter where you'll be waiting a year to get your rewards. We will have the prelude adventure ready to download IMMEDIATELY when the Kickstarter ends, and the softcover print version as well. In fact, if you are coming to GenCon you can also come to Booth 2639 to pick up the prelude adventure in person!
We are hard at work hammering out the first full adventure as well, and if everything breaks right we may have it ready in time for the end of the Kickstarter on July 27th, but more likely it will be available in August after GenCon.
We hope you take a good look at Legendary Planet and climb aboard for a ride that we guarantee will be out of this world.
The adventures of the Legendary Planet Adventure Path are described below:
Already funded:
The Assimilation Strain by Tom Phillips and Neil Spicer - a prelude adventure to introduce 1st-level characters on any fantasy world to a broader universe of insidious alien invaders.
To Worlds Unknown by Jim Groves - An adventure for 2nd to 5th level characters, featuring a breakout from an interplanetary prison and the exploration of a crime-infested hub world that could provide a gateway home, or draw the heroes deeper into a web of alien conspiracies and cryptic alliances.
The Scavenged Codex by Mike Shel - An adventure for 5th to 8th level characters across a post-apocalyptic desert planet in search of the forgotten lore of near-mythical creator races, now jealously guarded by corrupt cultists of the wastes.
Dead Vault Descent by Matt Goodall - An adventure for 8th to 11th level characters venturing forth to the blasted surface of a tidally locked world, half scorched by eternal sunshine and half frozen by endless darkness. The heroes must brave the primitive swamps of the habitable zone and penetrate the vast catacombs beneath in search of the keepers of hope to unlocking the mysteries of the ancients.
Confederates of the Shattered Zone by Richard Pett - An adventure for 11th to 14th level characters exploring the post-industrial ruins of an asteroid field, all that remains of a devastated world once held by the descendants of the creator races but bombarded into destruction. Can they recover the tools they need to form a resistance against a rising tide of evil?
Each of the above adventures (other than the prequel) contains not only a full-scale adventure of approximately 64 pages, but also an additional 32 pages of bonus material, including bestiaries of brand-new monsters, planetary gazetteers, and bonus articles detailing races, religion, equipment, character options, and more by guest authors like Sean K Reynolds and the Sasquatch Game Studio of Rich Baker, David Noonan, and Stephen Schubert, as well as an ongoing fiction series by award-winning author Chris A. Jackson.
Just unlocked today, we have now added...
The Depths of Desperation by Steven T. Helt - An adventure for 14th to 17th level characters who must confront an invasion that has already begun as the heroes venture into a watery world inundated by a sinister race of aquatic conquerors. What will they find left behind, and can they halt the aliens' unstoppable advance?
The full adventure has been unlocked, and every $2000 we'll be adding an additional bonus article.
Only two adventures remain to be unlocked over the course of the final two weeks of our Kickstarter campaign:
Mind Tyrants of the Merciless Moons by Tim Hitchcock - An adventure for 17th to 19th level characters set among the wandering moons of a gas giant seeded with psionic lifeforms, as the heroes plumb the depths of the mind in search of weapons to turn back the forces of evil.
To Kill a Star by Jason Nelson - An adventure for 19th to 20th level characters that takes characters to a massive Dyson sphere constructed around a waning star to confront the cabal of alien zealots trying to bring the universe to utter submission... or total annihilation.
