See that's 22 words right there! How long did that take? Also it seems you have already mastered the use of the em-dash.

For some its not the first round. I would have entered the 2 years prior but I knew i would have to bow out if I passed round 1 due to real life issues. So I held off so as not to cause any problems along that line.

You know, I second-guessed Gabriel's nationality an hour after posting, but by then it was too late. And I still am not sure where you're from, Gabriel. Belgium, maybe? Your profile doesn't say. Ah well, I knew there were Finns around somewhere.

Every year.

Every year, I look over at the RPG Superstar button, all shiny and proud and glittery and probably a waste of my time but maybe not and it'd still be nice to make something for a change and why not at least try?

Every year I tell myself, "Yes. This year. This year I'll try. I'll really give it a shot. No guts, no glory. Let's do it. This time, it's personal. For real this time. All in. Any second now."
...

You cannot win if you do not enter. ENTER!

Can safely say Monica indeed knows what she is talking about, hehe, I suspect you folks can figure out the why.

Submitted my first ever item into RPGSS and realize now that I may have screwed up on the cost calculation.

Star Voter Season 6, Dedicated Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Dedicated Voter Season 9

I did the same thing 1st time I entered, welcome to the RPGSS club Alric. Also unless pricing is way way off, that is not by far the worst mistake one can make, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Please, Please do NOT give away any info that might ID your item such as when you submitted it or any mistakes you may or may not have made.

It would be horrible if anyone got (DeathQuakered) DQ'ed for something like that.

Again best of luck and I hope everyone has fun.

Pricing is hard to get right and easy to get wrong - don't beat yourself up about it.

Very often, "wrong" prices dont get noticed because as voters we wont have the time to check it out.

If it looks wrong or is VERY wrong it's obvious, but I have found a 10% or less is usually not noticed or worried about.

Plus with my voting, pricing can be taught but originality and creativity not so much. Price is a very small part of the item design, so have faith in your work as a whole and enjoy the experience.

Do you think that the time of submission could spoiler something?... The judges know who submitted what and when anyway. While voters won't see the submission date/time...

Telling us that you just submitted shouldn't matter; when voting begins there won't be any way to tell whether the submission was made on the first day or the last. But you don't want to say anything that could conceivably clue people to which item is yours.

Star Voter Season 7

That's clear and understood. ^_^

Paizo Employee Developer , Dedicated Voter Season 7, Dedicated Voter Season 8, Star Voter Season 9

While we, as judges, can't be sure exactly who submitted, we can see when an item has been submitted. This is something a judge would only see if they were hovering over the submission pile while constantly checking the various threads. Thing is, who knows how much time actually passes between someone submitting their item and posting something like, "Whew! I didn't think I'd do it, but I finally submitted my item!"

Unless you're super obvious about it, chances are we won't notice.

OMG! I'd known that someone named Monica Marlowe had won, but I'm just now seeing that Monica = mamaursula. That is so cool. Mamaursula rocks.

This is why I like the new timing much better. In the past I've always had to disappear as soon as I've been eliminated (ie as soon as the top 32 are announced) because work is insane at year end. This year I have no excuse not to hang around and see how the later rounds play out.

I mean, hang around to compete in the later rounds, of course. (Whew! Almost jinxed it there for a moment.)

Back to the drawing board.

Well done.

I have spent the day avoiding the forums, my emails and my entry - that 24 hours of "leave it alone" is a nightmare. Even now, 9 seasons in, it's still the hardest part of the game :)

I'm a little overwhelmed that everything starts at the same time as the start of the school year, but at least the first few months of calculus and physics are pretty easy to teach, right?

I can't wait to start seeing items once voting opens! I just may have to skip hitting Marathon this year.

Dedicated Voter Season 9

I'm very glad to have entered this year, despite the inevitable after entry regrets and doubts. No matter the outcome it was a great exercise in design. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the contest!

Yes! If you are legally allowed to do so, enter! A random comment about my first item (Cubes of Crossbreeding) and a possible result of them (rhinoceraptor) was successfully integrated into a Kickstarter, so it never hurts to try.

My failures these past 3 years are clearly due to the lack of vision and foresight by my fellow voters. This year, I shall stand triumphant and my genius shall be acknowledged! Don't worry... I'll leave room for 31 of you to share in the glory. A lesser... but glorious nonetheless, glory.

Submitted my item (at some point in the last 168 hours).

I fear this year things will turn out quite differently with the top 32. My impression is voters tend to vote for gonzo over good, and then having adult supervision (in the form of judges) allows them to take the top 32 from the top 80 or so at the top of the filtered stack.

Blindly taking the top 32 this year will subject us to maybe 20 items that wouldn't have made the top 32 in previous years.

Anyways, vote early, vote often, vote carefully (especially after the cull)

While the judges could rush over and look, I have it on pretty good authority from past judges that they try very hard not to uncover that information, because they want to be as "blind" in their review as everyone else. The names are scrubbed from the items by goblins and put in a bucket to be carried off for entry. But, it is best to err on the side of caution and not say anything even vague about your item in any way until the day AFTER the Top 32 is announced.

I think those will exist, but that number will be smaller than 20. I have tried to predict from items alone who the Top 16 will be with about a 70% success rate. So even though there will be folks in the Top 32 based on items not designers, I predict the number prepared for the next round will be about the same.

I know the author of one fan favorite that didn't get Top 32, has since been published under the Open Call for PFS, implying he was ready. Take that for what you will :)

I found out about the moving up of the contest yesterday lol. My body and mind are ready though. I have made what I consider my best effort while taking care of my family and other responsibilities and look forward to anything and everything that comes from this healthy competition. Good luck to those who have entered, for those who have not there is still time, remember to have a copy for much later on when you can have it critiqued and learn and grow for the upcoming competitions.
